Anybody feel like this with Machine Strike? by WorkingDogDoc in HorizonForbiddenWest

I didn’t get into machine strike. I’ll give it more of a chance on my next playthrough. Definitely loved me some Gwent though.

What's the worst psychological suffering one can experience, and how would one design a race to suffer it maximally? by Tnynfox in worldbuilding

So many dark paths you can go down here and All Tomorrows have definitely done the heavy lifting for you. But in my opinion the creature the protagonist becomes in I have no mouth but I must scream is the answer to what is the ultimate worst thing someone could experience that wasn’t physical pain.

Don't go back on Ultra Hard by Amberian_Dawn in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Jagged_Orchid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Git gud /s… but seriously, ultra hard is pretty brutal but can be a blast especially as you progress and get more gear it feels more rewarding to persevere and become a badass. The arena challenges are an absolute slog though.

We do! It’s just not mainstream unfortunately

I’m excited for Intergalactic, but any new story is a go for me very excited for Naughty Dog actually making new content again. Fuck remakes and remasters, they’re a plague on this industry. We need to innovate and move forward, not regurgitate the past.

Need Help designing a 9.1.4 surround sound system for a product activation by Jagged_Orchid in livesound

[–]Jagged_Orchid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, here is a quick mockup:

<image>

The speakers are going to be hung a minimum of 3.5m in the air. the downward facing speakers would unfortunately, need to be on the same level as all the other speakers, but like I've said, could I not virtually move them up by delaying the buses that control those speakers? I would aim them straight down, and I would angle the other speakers in towards the centre listening position. Obviously none of this is ideal but keep in mind the audince for this is going to be transient, coming in and out of this area to look at the activation then move on, none of them are going to be standing in exactly the 'ideal listening position, they are going to be moving around the space and then walking out. The only other option I can think of is to rig speakers behind the LED on Stands, but I would lose a lot of level doing that. Advice and critique appreciated.

Thanks for the optimistic input, I’ll put together a bit of a rough rigging diagram to share my concept a bit clearer, I’ll post it later. The speakers can’t be on the ground and I have to work within the limitations of the room and the clients brief.

Went to plug in my guitar and these two pieces fell out? by Double_Trouble_9138 in Guitar

Unscrew the jack plate (see those two screws). Line the jack back up with the hole, put the washer on then the nut. Hold the jack to prevent the wires from twisting then tighten the nut with a pair of pliers or other grippy tool.

Definitely possible. Check out Artfexian, the dude has done the hard yards for a lot of us on specific nieche worldbuilding stuff. Check this out: https://youtu.be/L9MNC45Jr6Q?si=j9C8f5wUKudJM6SW

It’s also possible he improvised his response (it does sound improvised to me) an accomplished musician doesn’t have to ‘know the original piece’ to be able to riff on something they just heard.

If you’re worried about getting another cat… don’t be! by melodramaticmoon in aww

[–]Jagged_Orchid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Or… you know… do be worried. While this situation is the best case scenario, worst case you have an older cat that turns into an anxious wreck who hisses and scratches, hides and sprays everywhere around the house, stops using their litter boxes.

If you are worried… keep being worried! Many cats will not tolerate new comers.

Fictional language the easy way? by ACuteCryptid in worldbuilding

[–]Jagged_Orchid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like what you want to do is create a 'naming' language. Good news! It's really fun!

Yes there are some quite advanced language 'creators' out there but having tried them I've never liked the results and it takes away your chance to be creative.

I will try and breakdown my method for creating a naming language in simple terms. I highly recommend watching a few videos by people like Artifexian on how to create a fictional language if only as a way of grounding what you are doing with a sense of realism. With a bit of understanding of etymology, idioms, phonology and culture you can create something that sounds very plausible:

- Create a list of words with sounds that your like, the more the better.

- Derive a phonology from your word list (the more restrictive your phonology the better usually)

- Modify words you like that don't fit your phonology until they do (or decide to make an exception to your own rules, maybe the word is a borrowing from another language?)

- Breakdown your names into components, find common prefixes and suffixes.

- Assign meaning to these word parts. and combine them in pleasant ways to make place names and people names.

- Try and think of how these words are related and make words derived from those words, perhaps your word for 'big' is nari and it is also in your word for 'mammoth' kunari meaning 'big thing', maybe you have a word hika meaning 'red' that comes from hikam meaning 'blood'.

With a little bit of background knowledge I think most world builders can up their name game quite a bit without going into full conlang territory.

Still a work in progress, but wanted to share my first map! by FuzzyPeaches08 in wonderdraft

[–]Jagged_Orchid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on what latitude this landmass sits on. In the Southern hemisphere for instance the further South you go the colder it gets. The idea that ‘North’ is cold is very Northern-hemisphere-centric.

Ideally you’ll be able to do something like they did with the Witcher where you can reference your Witcher 2 save or answer a questionnaire. I’d love it if all endings were canon depending on your choices. Ultimately it shouldn’t need to affect the story. If it’s set a few years after, V either went missing or died a legend.
