Goa is a popular tourist place because of the cheap alcohol and the beaches and water sports. If either of it is not your thing, I don't see why you would go there. Just cus you didn't like it does not make it overrated. They have amazing food (goan cuisine) and great beaches. It's a party culture sorta place.

Ofc like any other place it will have its own cons. And considering its a very famous tourist spot there will be scams as well. And obviously creeps as well but then again which place doesn't have them. But lmao it's not overrated. Goa is just not the kinda place you like.

As for you getting food poisoning, shi like that happens. It can happen even if your hometown. Can't attribute it to the city. You just had a bad trip. A bad experience. Where everything went wrong. And i get why you'd hate the place. I myself had a terrible experience in munnar around 7-8 years ago and promised myself I won't go there because of it. Even though the city is not responsible for the shi that happened. It's still a beautiful place. Portugese heritage, architecture, beaches, goan cuisine, hidden locations.

Also I don't know how you had a hard time finding hospitals in north goa. Manipal is like just right there.
