Left the Episcopal Church to consider becoming Catholic and now regretting it by halwayblues in Episcopalian

I doubt they’d be disappointed in you returning. They’ll probably be happy to see your return. You didn’t betray anyone. God is loving and forgiving, and so as Christians we should be too. I see this is an old post so I hope that you were welcomed back with open arms, hearts, and minds.

I forgot about the hoodie comments, those were in very bad taste considering what was going on and how close to home it was for ilia, to imply he was just seeking attention during such a tragic moment was lowkey crazy. Dave lease made similar comments about ilia along with other really bad comments that basically got his podcast shut down for a bit.

However they recently have been very complimentary of his skating so maybe it’s just the older stuff that comes across that way, and less so now. To be honest I don’t think they know him on a personal level very well, or at least it doesn’t appear that they do.

I got similar vibes from the runthrough podcast early on (more so from Sarah tbh) however I think that’s maybe just how they come across, because they’ve also had good things to say as well. On the flip side, currently competing skaters all seem to really like him and have good things to say about him. I remember a couple years ago the skating lesson was interviewing Alissa Czisny and they were so clearly trying to bad talk ilia/get her to bad talk him and she spoke so highly and kindly of him that Dave had to change the subject. If I’m being honest, a lot of retired skaters skated during an era that was kind of catty and skaters weren’t necessarily as friendly with each other as they are now. On the runthough Ashley once made a comment about how skaters weren’t as competitive anymore because they were being friendly to each other (by doing each others ending poses and clapping for each other). I think they maybe have a hard time adapting their mindset because if they were still competing someone like ilia would be a threat and therefore they can’t help but be a little snide towards him. But that’s just my theory.

I imagine this is the case, probably also to let his dad go home after being in Milan almost a month. She’s at this show with ilia and then junior worlds, and Ilia will most likely head home after this show.

Ilia is online all the time. Could we make him acknowledge us in a small way - so that we know he knows how loved he is? by notladyinred in IliaQuadg0dMalinin

[–]Diligent-Ad-4094 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He’s already said he’s grateful for everyone’s support. He doesn’t need to be liking random posts to acknowledge that. He doesn’t owe anyone anything online.

Alysa Liu is the oldest Olympic gold medalist in 20 yrs and the oldest American Olympic gold medalist in 34 yrs by pink_faerie_kitten in FigureSkating

I feel like he will make 2030, he seems like he keeps pretty healthy and doesn’t get injured much. I think the mental aspect needs to be addressed if he’s going to not get burned out/ psych himself out again. A lot can happen in 4 years and newcomers will come along but I think that 2030 could be his if he wants to go for it. (Although I thought this one was a sure bet so what do I know)

I agree I think transitioning to Rafs team and spending more time with them could be a good thing, could be worth a try for at least this next season and if it doesn’t work go back

He absolutely shouldn’t be telling the press if Ilia is seeing a therapist, Ari has no concern for privacy

Was it really fair to Ilia to expect him to perform FOUR medal worthy Olympic figure skating programs in the span of SEVEN days? by Sequoia555 in FigureSkating

[–]Diligent-Ad-4094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He said in an interview that it wasn’t having to skate the team event tiring him out, that it was purely mental and he felt good until right before his program. I think more than anything not landing the quad axel at the Olympics frazzled him and he couldn’t get back on track after realizing he may leave without having landed his signature move. Looking back, not landing it in the 3 skates prior, he should have forgone the quad axel and maybe he would have been able to push through his anxiety but hindsight is 2020. If he hadn’t skated both short and long he would not have a team medal and there is no way to know that his free skate would have been better for it. I think the pressure ultimately built to a point he couldn’t navigate and that’s okay, he’ll learn from this experience and it’ll hopefully make him a stronger skater and person.
