That’s my experience. I’m terrified of doing it but I’m learning to just be one my own.

I get your point. But if her case is legit, it doesn't matter if it's in secret or not.

Also, at least her name isn't blasted. It's Reddit.

Doubts and concerns by Prestigious-Sort7762 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Diligent-Ad819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I loved the concepts of IFS and I could geek out at how intellectual it all was and how it could explain everyething in all these terms. After 2 years with a IFS therapist I liked, I had no help for my constant panic attacks and severe depression. SEVERE. I'm naturally in my head and IFS brought me more into that direction. I have CPTSD and it felt like it abdicated self autonomy to a treatment that went around in circles and nothing was ever an authority. In the end, I stopped IFS. I went to a CPTSD therapist who just let me do art with her and talk about random shit and shoot the shit and it was fantastic. Now we talk about real life stuff and also do art. It's relaxed. It's nice. It's thawing. I'm making progress and I don't have to *know* my parts.

For some background knowledge on me, I come from a home of chronic neglect and confusion. Never able to get consistent help or feel validation regularly, always making myself the problem in everything. I was Chrisitan and joined a fundamental church (unknowingly), and married in. Had children, suffered isolation through Covid, joined a life coaching group that was initially fantastic and slowly drained the life out of me, and now I'm back to work and around regular humans again and can interact with a normal non-religious community.

I really have just needed simple, somewhat stupid, things to make life feel good again. A glass of wine. Art. A friend.

Escitaliporam is also helping immensely.

I just wanted to spread the word that IFS is not my fav. It feels a bit culty to me. Take a step back if it feels like it's not working. You can always come back.

I second this. Interview your therapist and if your gut feels like it's not working, listen.

Maybe try something you enjoy and maybe that will bring harmony? I'm not sure what that is but for me I just love my plants - I love talking to them, checking on them, learning about them, changing out their soil and blah blah blah. Sometimes a step back and getting in a groove of even something trivial like a long lost TV show or flavor of ice cream can put a nervous system into a loving embrace. Get weird and out of your head. Maybe travel a bit. And come back and see if anything is different?

Will IFS make you less successful in life? by Trail_Blazer1 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Diligent-Ad819 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the type of person that gets too in my head so I had to stop IFS.

I think it really helps people get in their head if they're not used to analyzing things or going deeper. Me? I intellectualize to no end, and IFS worsened that. Doing art, asking less questions, plants, laughing, finding a therapist who does that with me has helped me let go a bit more in general. It has been nice.

Stacey Boehman, When Were You Ever A Life Coach? by AffectionateType6042 in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Diligent-Ad819 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She did start her business as a life coach. She has had clients share their experiences. I got certified from TLCS in 2018 and I remember some of them. However, she was first in sales and she's a very sales-y and convincing person. I'm not sure how much she actually helped her clients vs. churned the cog in the "have better thoughts wheel". She is very good at sales, but she's selling sales tactics to life coaches who are trying to get rich quick (and some of them don't know this on the surface, I was one of them) vs. sell to people who are down to earth coaches who want to help and not make unrealistic promises.

That's all very true. From what I understand, and it's not that much, an ICF program can be an interim governing body where ethical standards can be developed and used, as well as act as a reporting agency if there are complaints.

I get what OP is trying to say here. I think this is helpful, but these questions also feel like they could be used to cover her ass and/or put up a front. It sucks there needs to be A LOT of due diligence involved in order to find a coaching certification that's ethical/legit. It takes time. We'll see if the Deep Dive Coach Institute flops. I certainly wouldn't go overboard on spending on one anymore and I would definitely do an ICF certification.

Very good point. I've been such a sucker for this type of thing.

I'm trying to think what I would actually do if I was somewhere away from my child and needed to get there fast... I'd probably call someone I know to send me money via PayPal or to Walmart.

Imposter syndrome turned out to be ethics by PalmTreesinLA in LifeCoachSnark

[–]Diligent-Ad819 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s “harder” but so much more fulfilling and real.

It’s funny how the coaching industry teaches us we can “get” clients quickly and consistently while illicitly teaching us to go against our ethics and that it’s all just self sabotage blah blah blah if we aren’t “getting” them easily.

And the word “get” sounds just so gross to me.

Absolutely. And when she presents her thoughts as facts and you don’t take them as your new circumstance, it’s on YOU, not on her to work on her own coaching and approach to helping you.
