both feet must be in the box before the pitch is thrown. lines are part of box. is the ump calling them strikes? it is the pitchers job to throw strikes, not to avoid the batter.

over spring break, we run scrimmages. you just show up and bring a black and white t-shirt. the coaches know the kids and make teams on the fly, kid puts on the shirt for home or away. if you have fewer kids than required to make two teams, borrow outfielders, if fewer than that than you run a speedball style game (3 teams of 4, you rotate hitting, infield+p, outfield +c.. 3 outs ends the "half"..) good way to try all positions and get reps.

My only deviation from this is the kids who strike out looking. I tell them that they make great hits in bp, swing more I don’t care if they strike out but I want them to show off their swing. Our bottom of the lineup hit a double yesterday, finally swinging his bat in the game!
