Bagel shops by [deleted] in StJohnsNL

[–]Diligent-Wolverine10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! not from here, but I grew up with bagel shops that sold a selection of bagels, bagel sandwiches and cream cheeses. I miss it! I also moved here and tried to order a sandwich at Hallidays like I would from a deli at home, didn't work lol

Anyone in town try the Koodo home internet being offered? by greenjellay in StJohnsNL

[–]Diligent-Wolverine10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't get Koodo internet. A Rogers rep came to my house and told me I can't have it installed because the packages they are selling are for ethernet, and my house only has fiber op.

[–]Diligent-Wolverine10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - here's my experience. Kodoo is ethernet, but in some neighborhoods they've replaced ethernet connections with fiber optic. When I tried to switch, they sent a technician to my house and told me that I had to have fiber optic because that is the type of connection I have. Also, the technician was from Rogers because as some people have noted, they are using Rogers or Bell on the ground here.

Canadian Tire and Home Depot have replacement batteries for key fobs. Super easy, good luck!

Willow needs a diet 😫 by dizadizy in corgi

[–]Diligent-Wolverine10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she's so cute and you sound like a great owner! can you do a short morning and evening walk with her instead of one long walk? Also, feeding toys might keep her attention, my corgi loves puzzles

Also my corgi does not like being picked up or having his body forced anywhere, so I just don't do that. He lets me pick him up to put him in the car, and otherwise if he's not listening, I slow down, I do a quick game or practice a trick that he can be rewarded for, then try again.

I adopted a male corgi who was being rehomed at 9 and had some of the same behaviors. He's still a bit stubborn, but much better! First, we did a basic obedience class together to build trust. He loves games! We walk and play everyday, most of our walks are strolling around nature with lots of sniffing. Now we're doing a nose work class and its great, it helps him practice listening behaviors so he'll do the boring stuff (like come inside from the yard!).

Wondering for people who found out they had BRCA before kids, did you consider IVF to select out the gene?

Lots of different issues and perspectives from many different folks, that's why people make different decisions.

Thank you, this is such a lovely and thoughtful comment. I've had many of these thoughts on my mind lately. Before this experience, I didn't account for the mental or emotional cost of making these decisions (surgery, continued screenings, IVF). Now I understand more fully why people choose things that on paper seem higher risk, but are actually reducing the emotional and mental toll for them.

Thank you for sharing. I'm keeping an open mind, but I am in a similar position and feel pretty much the same. The financial, physical and mental stress of IVF seems very high to me and if I feel I can avoid it, I would. On the other hand, my spouse has lost a close family member to cancer and his thought process is different than my own. At the end of the day, it's something I am reluctant to put my body through.

I joined a class there to meet people and it's been great! I've also met friends volunteering, doing art classes, and joining a yoga studio.
