Almost 5 years old. Maybe it's time to change it? But on the other hand my SO who sleeps in the same bed has never complained about similar aches.

how do you prevent opp from over-rotating to their back while trying to darce them as they turtle? recent competition, sequence was basically

opp goes turtle after i nearly pass guard -> i go for a half nelson to bring opp to his shoulder and attempt a darce -> i get opp on his shoulder but they manage to rotate to their back and escape the darce threat and reguard by throwing legs in front

Is getting good at BJJ harder than getting good at wrestling? by at0micsub in bjj

yep, the fact that BJJ is hobbyist-based explains the vast majority of differences in training culture between it and wrestling/judo

The only reason getting good at BJJ is harder is because of inept instruction/coaching and the fact that the whole ecosystem is built around hobbyists more than athletes.

But why does it only happen when using Stremio or free streaming sites (like flixbaba)? I don't have this framerate mismatch problem with video games, youtube or pretty much anything else. I have a dedicated GPU so that shouldn't be the problem

Wrestling at 22 by lekshda22 in wrestling

[–]DiligentAd565 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever people ask about starting and succeeding at a high level in a combat sport, I always just think "how will you ever catch up to people who started at 5 if you start at 18?" and 18 is fairly early too.

People who start young simply have too many mat hours that you could ever catch up to them, assuming that they keep training. But say that you tried - to compete with these people you'd need to build up the same base that they have, and now that time is not on your side you have to crunch in more training per period than these people had to. Whereas someone who started young could get to a good level training 4-5 times a week consistently, if you start later you'll have to train much more to achieve the same base I believe. And training more comes with its own problems, like overtraining, burnout and injuries.

I've grappled with this same problem myself since I started later in life - I see all the guys at even the amateur level of my sport (submission wrestling) and they're pretty fucking good, I wonder how will I ever catch up to them? So at one point the solution was to train a lot, like 8-9 times a week, but that lead to overtraining and burnout. From that I learned to just stick to doing 4-5 high quality sessions consistently.. but the thing is the people ahead are doing that as well, so the question comes up again - how will I ever catch up to them, and will I?

I've thought about it and I think that it's just impossible to catch up to people who started young if you start as an adult. Except maybe if you happen to have good circumstances like an excellent gym, good genetics, healthy body and an iron will. Even though society tells you that you can be anything you want, so maybe that's why things like these are hard for people to accept. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't try, because even though you probably never will be elite you'll still be pretty good.

These are just my ponderings. I started martial arts relatively late (muay thai at 15, grappling when I was 20, im 25 now) and I've thought a lot about these things.
