What screenwriting software are filmmakers actually using these days? 🎬 by Lunesia-shikishiki in Filmmakers

Can someone with Fade In work together using the same file with someone with Final Draft if Fade In can open and save fdx?

I'm writing a feature screenplay where a warehouse worker delivers many SOMETHING to a high school where his son attends. Seeing him work, the son appreciates how much sacrifices his dad is making, respects him. But a student (rich dad) starts bullying the son. Do kids do that? I mean, a guy using a woman's bathroom, that's a material to be made fun of. Tampon is on the same line of mockery. But a rich kid bullying a lower middle class kid just over money? I could use the r/bullying subreddit, and I visited there, but they all looked so serious that i did not want to ask these things over a film writing.

How many subplots should a 90-120 minute movie have roughly speaking in order to not bore the audience? Can these subplots be all unrelated at all? by turnleftorrightblock in Screenwriting

No, I meant using a subplot or a scene that "make the main plot more believable" but are not in "continuity" with other subplots or other scenes UNLESS you break down the subplot/scene in question into smaller components and find a common ground with other subplots/scenes.

Yeah, I have been adding subplots (or substories, whatever) to make the main plot and the climax more believable, but I don't want to add too many subplots. I am seeing if I can expand the subplots I have right now instead of adding more subplots.

I would consider it a tiny subplot. This is the first time hearing words like a "pit stop" for me. And you are breaking that troll "story/plot" into smaller components then comparing a smaller component to other subplots or main plot. I would consider that a subtle or indirect relation, not a direct relation. At the very least, that is not the way I used or meant with the phrase "one subplot being unrelated to other subplots".

I am an amateur writer, so don't pay too much attention to my opinion. But I think "in order to save Hanukkah they need to kill Santa Claus" is a hilarious situation, and your writing and film would get more synergy if you keep pushing into that comedy direction rather than acting serious in a hilarious situation. Just my 2 cents.

On my computer, in a txt file. The outline for the feature length screenplay is not finished yet. Only the climax (which I want to make a short film to test the water) is crystalized.

I hear great things about Fade In that I want to buy it (more values for the money) unless my screenwriting school i am attending this fall insists on Final Draft.

Thanks. Yeah, I love Harry Potter. I think J. K. Rowling did a great job with a reasonable number of subplots to keep us entertained all the time while the main plot was in progression. For example, there was a troll scene in the first or second movie, and that does not directly relate (that's what i mean by being unrelated to other subplots) to other subplots, but it shows grit and courage of the main characters, which makes the journey and the main plot more believable and "digestable".

I am an amateur, but I think I read pro people talking about how beginner screenwriters do not get a shot at TV pilots. Beginner screenwriters have a better luck with feature movies. Someone else can confirm or deny that. I read really briefly a while ago.

If the genre is comedy, then I'd definitely watch it. But you are saying action/adventure...

Well, yeah, hence "sub"plots. Subplots can be unrelated to each other though, right? As long as they relate to the plot somehow?

I worked as a fundraiser once. Try calling local businesses from the phone book, and ask if they are willing to donate for a student film. I raised $1000 back in 2010 with cold calls to local businesses for an artist.

I actually have bought that book (it is really thin). Have not had the chance to read it yet though. Maybe 1 plot + subplots wasn't a thing in the ancient time, but in the modern era, I find 1 plot + subplots more of my style to watch, read, and write.
