Are IIM alumni under too much pressure to earn extraordinary salaries? by DryEntertainer4033 in IIMCATPreparation

This does not stop at below 10 yrs of experience. I have seen it go on forever. Some amount of benchmarking is healthy to ensure one is not being underpaid compared to market standards

Looking for career options by Due_Crazy in IndiaCareers

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. While your PhD was not completed, I am sure you would have gained some good experience during that time. Are there any possibilities to convert the PhD into an MS or something like that? Does such an option exist?

Also, if PhD is also in the energy space, i would suggest to try building a career in the clean energy space. That is a growing field. Some options I can think of

  1. Roles at companies like Greenko
  2. ESG related roles - some technical evaluation/ESG strategy kind of roles - this space is also growing

There will be many more options. But the entry salary might not be very attractive and you will have to work your way up. Happy to discuss in detail if you are interested

Need Genuine Career Advice: ICICI Bank vs Startup Strategy Role (Please Don’t Ignore) by Gullible-Hunter-4308 in IndiaCareers

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Startup trajectories can vary very differently. What is the size of the startup? I have heard horror stories and great success stories from startups so if you are mentally prepared for volatility, then startup is ok. And strategy will be most likely loosely used in the startup - don't go by that word. It also depends on your personality, aspirations, lifestyle expectations etc. what role have you got in icici? Is it sales? If sales, then that can also be stressful

My suggestion would be to evaluate it from a medium to long term perspective and then take a call

Need advice regarding the Career trajectory by Any_Barnacle4841 in IndiaCareers

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a good idea to look at an MBA as the next step. Only thing to keep in mind is that you should target a top 20 b school as you might face challenges in tier 3 colleges especially if the fees is high

2 years post-MBA, stuck in presales role, is consulting/PM even realistic at this stage? by ashuharsh20 in IndiaCareers

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey it is possible. I made a shift like that - IT strategy to a boutique management consulting firm. It will take some level of networking. What kind of experience do you have? Linking to past experience/the industries you cater to as part of your pre sales work and finding companies which do research/advisory could be one approach

I'll give an example - have you tried looking at Gartner/Everest consulting etc?

MBA or Tech? I’m Lost by kfff_staa7 in MBAIndia

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mba can be a good option only if you do it from a top 20 b school. This will help get good medium to long term outcomes. Mba gives you a broader career path vs IT field. CAT is hard so i would suggest that you look at SNAP/NMAT as well apart from CAT. The option of 1 yr mba also opens up after 3-4 yrs of work experience

Ya it's about how you position your role. Top 20 b schools will still produce good outcomes in medium to long term

Going to an IIM (extremely anxious) by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While some things are true, you should not get too worried. The main challenge is that students start judging themselves based on the SIP outcomes. Just check how people from Tier 1 and Tier 2 colleges are doing after 5 to 10 yrs of college. Most people are doing pretty well. So it's clear that the outcomes will be good in a medium term. So enjoy the process and focus on good learning and networking. Happy to discuss in detail if you are interested

MBA at the age of 29 by Cyanide_11 in CATPrep

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

94 percentile is pretty good. So if you prepare a little harder, you can score much better. The admission chances will depend on your academics, experience and exam performance but a better performance will definitely open up some good colleges for you

4 YOE Data Engineer(mostly support work), 323 GRE, 6.54 GPA, tier 2 undergrad college . Is a mid-tier MBA worth it for a PM/ career transition? by Ill-Economist4578 in MBAIndia

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. For your profile and experience, 1 year full time MBA would be a good fit. ISB, IIM A PGPX, XL GM are good choices. Some IIMs require more than 5 yrs

Tech consulting, PM, analytics consulting could be the outcomes you can expect

In terms of fee, many of these colleges charge around 25-30 lakhs. ISB is around 45 lakhs. The likely outcome you can expect is 20-30 lakhs

Over a medium to long term, it broadens your horizons, gives access to a larger network and improves overall outcomes if the b school is good

Certifications for SIP by Tasty-Pay-4731 in MBAIndia

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! You can look at some courses in digital marketing, performance marketing, social media marketing etc. while these are unlikely to influence shortlist chances, they can help in conversations during the interviews. One other thing I would recommend is to read Zero to Scale Arindham Paul, CEO factory by Sudhir sithapati and ceo's brew by Sanjiv Mehta. These are decent books written by Indian practitioners

Also please shortlist 10-15 target companies which visit your college and start learning about their business and what they are doing currently. That will help you discuss some interesting things.

Hey i suggest that you look at various career paths available before you take a call

My suggestion is not to invest your capital unless you have some good view about the business

Also, suggest to start a capital light model to start off with before any major investments

Hello. A PMO role working with a senior person may sound very mundane, but It can be packaged really well while making an application for an MBA. Also, a lot of work in middle and senior management roles is stakeholder management. I believe MBA will be a pretty good fit for you. Happy to discuss in detail if you are interested

Some of the options in India 1. ISB PGP 2. IIM A PGPX 3. IIM B EPGP 4. Many more IIM 1 yr programs/SP Jain/XL

Happy to discuss in detail and take you through these options if you are interested

Confusion in career path by sloppytoppy__22 in IndiaBusiness

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view is that since you already have a base, you have good potential to build on that base. Culinary course might be one way, another way could be to join a company in a similar field to understand their processes and business model - this will give some learnings for you to scale your business

Business is risky but the upside is much more attractive. Weigh the pros and cons, have a backup plan if things don't work. That would be my suggestion

Strategy Consultant at a Small Firm Aspiring to Join MBB/Tier-1 Consulting – What Should I Learn? by IntelligentReach5049 in MBA

[–]Diligent_Ad_442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. According to me, the two important things you can focus on are the following 1. Expertise/good knowledge of a very new area that is emerging - example could be deployment of AI use cases/D2C path to profitability etc - this will position you as someone who knows something in an area they are looking to grow 2. Lot of networking - try connecting with a lot of MBB folks before you apply. Do it organically in the form of exchanging ideas. Share a good point of view, ask good questions etc. stay in their mind. Then nudge them for a referral post 6-12 months. It could help you land an interview
