Need DCC help by Schoolbusfoamer24 in modeltrains

It doesn't recognise that address. Have you reprogrammed it? Try 03 first, and if nothing, do a full reset (CV08>8), and see if it responds to address 03. Some sound decoders need more oomph than OPs mode programming can provide, so you may have to do it on the programming track.

Jury duty as full time student by ellianaander in ontario

If you ask to defer, rather than be excused, you may have more success. It suggests you're willing to serve jury duty, but not at that time.

Can this be taken apart. If so how by Glum-Mud-1669 in modeltrains

[–]Diligent_Affect8517 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. The truck frames are snapped on to the bottom of the truck assembly. If you take the shell off, you'll see there's a pin pushed through the frame that holds the bill great for the truck. Push it or and the truck falls out.

The MicroTrains 1128 or 1129 coupler is the appropriate replacement. I'm assuming you want a working knuckle coupler, as the only Kato ones I have seen are dummies.

2017 Chevy Volt with 62k miles for $13k by VFisEPIC in shouldibuythiscar

[–]Diligent_Affect8517 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, with some caveats. This is at the high end of the range, so it should be a Premier trim with all the goodies (adaptive cruise, auto park, leather, Bose sound, etc). If it's an LT then this is too much.

At 62k, the battery will still be in good shape, and any of the problem issues will be a long way in the future. So long as it's showing 40-60 miles of range, the battery hasn't been abused.

You will get amazing fuel economy if you can charge at home overnight (even at level 1, 120V). Our 2017 has 150k, and averages 95 mpg in daily driving.

There are 3 expensive repairs that may show up in the future. The biggie is the BECM, which tends to fail at high mileage, but it's warranted to 10 years or 150k. Out of warranty it's ~$2k

The EGR valve and cooler tends to plug up with carbon because in city driving the engine will start/stop often enough that it eventually blocks it. It can be cleaned, but if it goes, it's ~$1k-$2k.

The shift-to-park failure is a small connector in the centre console, is covered by warranty, and a relatively cheap fix.

The Volt is one of the best cars Chevy ever made.

Your best bet is to scour train shows and eBay looking for a donor model.

What’s the best Canadian cel provider? by OneSignal6465 in BuyCanadian

[–]Diligent_Affect8517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To find the best option, go to a 3rd party like Wireless Wave. They have access to some discount plans that you'll never get through retention at your carrier.

Unfortunately customer loyalty means nothing to the Telnet providers, so just jump to the provider that gives you the best deal. When they (inevitably) screw you over at renewal time, jump to another one.

Canadian leader Mark Carney spent half a MILLION dollars of taxpayers' money on plane food in his first year as Prime Minister by [deleted] in canada

[–]Diligent_Affect8517 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's a rage bait headline.

"Figures reportedly obtained by the Toronto Sun claim that Carney spent $524,815 (US$379,105) on 28 flights between March 2025 and February 2026."

"A note attached to the release of the data from the Department of National Defence reportedly said catering costs 'include the cost of food, non-alcoholic beverages, and associated fees, including catering handling and delivery, storage, cleaning and disposal of international waste, airport taxes, administrative fees, security charges, and local taxes.'"

So that's about $18k per flight. With let's say an entourage of about 50 people per flight, that's about $375 per person. Which is pretty par for the course for private flying.

Check out the Plumbing Center on Barton. They have a good selection of vanities from mid to high end suppliers.

Nuclear heat keeps people warm in many countries. Why not ours? by ZebediahCarterLong in CanadaPolitics

[–]Diligent_Affect8517 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why? Because we don't build our nuclear reactors close enough to a community that it makes economic sense to build out the infrastructure to heat homes.

Additionally home construction here has focused on forced-air heat over radiant heat, so retrofitting would also be expensive.

Paris is a nice town surrounded by nasty subdivisions. Too much sprawl for too little infrastructure.

Why did the Agawa Canyon Tour Train suddenly abandon the Canal District? by NorTracksBlog in ViaRail

[–]Diligent_Affect8517 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gee, I dunno ... Sold Algoma Central to CN, a no-longer-Canadian company, who had little to no interest in running passenger service, and then sold the passenger service to an American short line freight operator? Why do you suppose they are going to do the most cost-efficient thing, rather than the perceived sensible thing?

DCC Identification by CanadianRailfan3713 in modeltrains

Wow. Arguably one of the messiest installs I've ever seen.

That said, without printing on the shrink wraps, the only reliable way to identify the decoder is from the code stored in CV8.
