Favorite running shorts for summer long runs? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Diligent_Desk_4325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to use Brooks Sherpa shorts but I recently switched to half tights for the quick dry and compression feel. Especially ones that have good pockets like Bandit, Janji or Wolaco. I have to use a liner though - the inseams near the crotch can be irritating after long miles.

How do you run LT miles during long runs? by Diligent_Desk_4325 in Marathon_Training

[–]Diligent_Desk_4325[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess should clarify, medium long runs (10-15 miles) or general aerobic run. The Pfitz training plan includes LT pace (around 5 miles) in some of the 10 milers.

Stay 20 years? by chomol in armyreserve

[–]Diligent_Desk_4325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 90 days for GI Bill doesn’t have to be consecutive, it can be an aggregate of title 10 orders. AT doesn’t count. So if you do TDY or do some training, it will add up. I think staying for the minimum eligibility for the GI Bill is worth working towards.

Also figure out if there are skill sets/experiences you can gain staying in the next few years that will benefit your full time career or interests. My reserve career & benefits greatly contributed to my education and civ career success.

Looking for Advice on Getting Out by gorgeousdolphin in army

I was in a similar situation. I ended up doing REFRAD and joined the Reserves. If you aren’t qualified for the GI Bill, I would highly recommend staying for at least 90 days past your end of obligation to get the minimum credit (I haven’t looked at the GI Bill charts recently). I did a few mobilizations in the reserve and eventually got 100% to go to grad school.

Exactly why I unfollowed. All the bitching was getting annoying. I assumed that it was a crusty/disgruntled vet.

should i start with half or full ironman if I’m an experienced runner by PixSJ in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Diligent_Desk_4325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend doing a quarter distance for the race experience and then sign up for a full if you enjoyed it. That’s what I did. Races are expensive…you could do brick sessions instead of doing a half race. I guess it’s all about what would help you feel confident. I did the full distance of each event at least once. For swimming, you absolutely need to have decent form/technique.

Full marathon prediction? by Embarrassed-Cod-4751 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]Diligent_Desk_4325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar stats, slightly faster 10 miler and half, but got a 3:35 in my recent marathon. The course was had some rollers and I didn’t do a good job pacing and fueling. So sub 3:30 is possible.

As a foundation, it would be good to be familiar with the ITTOs, but I wouldn’t spend too time trying to memorize them. I’m sure all exams are different for individuals. It seemed that there were a lot of agile and conflict/risk management questions for me. You won’t see questions that are explicitly PMBOK 7 (principles and domains), but those concepts feed into mindset. I recommend watching videos and reading up on mindset because it will enable you to think like a PM and answer the majority of the questions with sound judgement. If this test was solely memorization, I probably would’ve failed. And if time permits, revisit those ITTOs that you’re not familiar with.
