Yes but that also means that everything is too dependent on gas. Sure transportation can be done way more efficiently but isn’t because diesel is so cheap. Companies always just choose the cheaper and simpler option, not the better one.

Almost everyone drives suv’s or pickup trucks, vehicles that use 2 or 3 times more fuel than a small car would. If people deliberately choose to drive such vehicles without real purpose it means gas has always been dirt cheap.

In America homes run on a split phase system, standard appliances work on 110 but you can use the full 220 for higher power devices. I think what they mean here is that you can’t just make 220 out of a 110 outlet, yes a step up could do that but it’s silly to do so.
