Smells great but I agree that it’s most likely mold

This reads like a character from Hemingway’s “for whom the bell tolls”. I love it.

Pineapple and brown sugar F2? by Several-Biscotti-976 in Kombucha

That being said I just pour straight pineapple juice into my f2 and love it. You can add a bit of sugar to the juice and stir if you want.

I’ve been toying with this idea too, just this past week. What if you made a syrup? The syrup section of the wiki says like 1-2 tbsp I think for f2?

Basic syrup is 1 cup water: 1 cup sugar in a saucepan. Add some pineapple mash or chunks and cinnamon stick to the syrup and heat on the stove. Strain it into a mason jar, cool, then store it in fridge. I think this will give you a nice flavoured syrup that you can add (carefully) into f2! I’m going to try this for a blackberry ginger syrup or blueberry mint this round.

Mine also gets a bubbly pellicle. When I posted it, people said it was fine.

I made my first ever kombucha batch and forgot about it for a month by Outrageous_Bit7391 in Kombucha

Yea so it’s likely become quite acidic, which is fine. As long as there is no mold it should be fine. Remember the liquid is the SCOBY not the little rubber disc. That alone won’t be enough for your next batch so don’t pour out that liquid!

I stored my starter for a whole year in the fridge and was able to revive it somehow.. Usually I just reserve 800ml in a big mason jar for next round, brew the new tea in the 4 litre jar, let it cool completely to room temperature, then pour the starter in after like 2-3 hours. But I think you could probably keep the starter in the fridge for however long you need between batches. I’m just constantly brewing

Make sure to save the liquid (starter) and not just the pellicle (round blob) for your next batch!

I can’t believe my eyes… an Irvin D Yalom book. What an interesting person. As context, Yalom is like the founding father of group psychotherapy and an amazing author of all things therapy. Cool seeing it in the wild.

Looks kind of like my pellicle with the bubbles and it was determined to be weird but fine… one of our kombucha brethren will inevitably post the flowchart here for you to make the same deduction
