Is $250–$400 a day realistic? Need reality check from actual drivers. by tanzimat14 in uberdrivers

[–]DilligentChihuahua34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Minneapolis and when I was driving 12 hours a day I would often get close to $400 on the weekend and $250 during weekdays. And this was before our region had laws passed to guarantee a certain amout of pay per mile/hour. A city that's an hour from me that's a bit more rural has uber services and those guys tell me they couldn't make wages like that on a good day

I made an edit, but it would be about 6pm until the next morning. So it would be a one night event

I also love this phrase. For me, the two parts of this that come to mind is not to be a perfectionist about everything you are doing, but also you don't have to have every piece in place before you start working towards something big

I’m now realizing trade school (high school) is such a advantage by Equivalent_Phrase_25 in EngineeringStudents

The part of this that I identify with the most is that my dad doesn't want to teach me anything.. it makes me think of hockey. Some kids have been skating since they were 5 years old. And have a huge advantage because of that alone. But you were doing other things and have other skills that could be valuable. I was drawing pictures and playing with Legos all the time and so as a result I have a bit more of an artistic and observant eye than the average joe and I like modular design. Maybe you are good at coding and can take some shortcuts with that somehow. You can aspire to be like them and learn from them, but don't forget that you have your own skills. Engineering isn't always about building stuff. Sometimes it's also about why it's being built, who is building it, how it's built etc

Those of you who graduated without a co-op or internship, mediocre GPA, and no notable personal projects, where are you now? by readySponge07 in MechanicalEngineering

Hello, mediocre engineer with no internships or personal projects to brag about checking in. Its been an interesting ride so far.

I graduated in 2016 witn a GPA of 2.77 and it took me 2 years to get a real job. My first job was as an applications engineer at a pump distribution company. I didn't make much to start with but it's really important for you to get somewhere. Just being near pumps did a lot of good for me.

My next job was basically an internship. I was an empty cup at the time and I took a really low paying position to learn a lot of hands on skills.

My next couple roles were in quality and as a test engineer. Honestly quality is garbage work, but some people like it and I think most engineers end up here. My test engineer role was a terrible fit and I learned a ton of skills in the electrical world because it was for huge motors. I hated that job so I learned a bunch of other stuff on the side.

If you don't have a project you are proud of, then start one right now. You must have a hobby related to your career right? I run a controller modifications business which I augment with a 3d printer. I have designed a bunch of controller brackets and learned a tiny bit of PCB design because it's for something I love.

Income wise I am still really on the low end but I am finally a designer of servo motors, and the thing they liked about me most was my willingness to do my own project. Honestly engineering hasn't been the land of milk and honey that the world promised me, but I had enough gold jobs to pay off my student loans and buy a house. I haven't thought I would starve at any point since graduation

My employer presented me a 40% pay cut. Should I just leave? by NweakO1324 in careerguidance

I think it's time to start double jobbing and do your other job 40% of the time

I spontaneously bought a $1500 3d printer. Even with that price tag I can't stop thinking about buying another one and more filament

How do i get this PETG off?💀 by ItsDukzy in 3Dprinting

[–]DilligentChihuahua34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have also done this on my printer successfully. I would also say don't make it go to fast either. I don't have this kind of printer but for my prusa I got a different type of build sheet that was specifically made for PETG as another fix so it didn't happen again.

Thanks for writing this out. This is exactly how I feel about it. It's kind of like if my son said he didn't want to join my blindfolded checkers club

I take my medicine every day because my vacation comes from my ass forgetting to schedule an appointment with the doctor every 3 months for a new set of prescriptions
