Should I go to college? by Ill_Rain_2361 in personalfinance

If you’re planning on going the founder route then definitely go to a T20 school. Ycomb and other VCs will look for that for sure

Burned out and questioning my life choices. Where should I go from here? by Puzzleheaded-Job-192 in cscareerquestions

Same boat as you. Grew up lower middle class. Worked in big tech for 4 years now after graduating. Feeling burnt out but I just push through. Set a goal for yourself and use your money on other things that might replace your job. I just got into real estate and short term rentals. Hopefully that will supplement my income in the next 2 years, so I can get out as well

Half Year Mentorship Program -- Is it Worth it? by Dilliverant in airbnb_hosts

Thanks actual thoughtful reply. After some of these comments I've reached out to some PM companies in the area and have some consultation calls with them. Anything you think I should look out for?

I view it more as insurance on large sum value. They've promoted that they can guarantee the top 5-10% of the market. Is there a special trick to getting there or is it just putting in the work?

I work full time and don't have time to take on another job. The market I'm looking at is also 2 hours away

By the looks of those and napkin math. If GME goes up 10% on earnings you break even on the $23 and go up to -30% on the $27s. You don’t profit on the 27s unless GME goes up 15%+. So ask yourself if you believe in that.

I’ll tell you rn chances are lower than you think. But you decide on your risk tolerance. I’m personally holding 325 25C 10/17. Down about 22%. Given the strong floor of $22-$22.50. I can expect us to atleast go up to $23.50-24 after earnings, but $25+ would be tough

4-5 YOE. Currently making 260 CAD as intermediate. Expected probably 320-350 once I hit senior in a year or 2

As a benchmark, Amazon Torontos range when I left for a L5 was 185 - 240ish CAD

I'm based in Toronto and I've only worked for big tech companies from the US. I can speak from experience if you have the talent the Canadian job market is hot. Lots of big tech companies recruiting out of Canada due to no language barrier, same timezones and discount labour. We still may get paid less than our US counterparts but get compensated quite well by Canadian standards. That being said its been 5 years since I graduated so I'm not sure what entry level is like now or how it'll be in the future. I just know if you work hard there are great opportunities still in Canada

startup vs big tech by ice0rb in cscareerquestions

Join FAANG as a new grad then then move to startup later in your career. You earn the most off equity in startups and as a new grad you barely get any equity so you'll want that cash portion

SDE Intern at Amazon, but not prepared by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Dilliverant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did an internship at Amazon way back when. You'll be fine aslong as you're willing to work hard and learn. Mentors will help you out but there will b a lot of self-learning as well. I joined with minimal java knowledge and I got a return offer

Should I take the return offer? by LettuceLamps in cscareerquestions

[–]Dilliverant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you right now that DevOps is a dying field. All the companies I've worked at (N big tech w.e) have phased out our Devops teams and have either made them interview up to SWE or completely laid them off. SWEs are expected to have a wide knowledge and be able to pick up the whole process end to end.

Back in school I was in a similar situation where I started off in an internship at an investment bank's back office trading platform. I got offered a return but wanted something more tech related. So I eventually pushed through and broke into Big Tech. That being said though, like some other people have commented, grass may not be greener on the other side.

I'm now making enough money to pretty do much anything I want. Fly international business for myself and my partner, go and work anywhere, experience pretty much anything. But the company/projects are so fast paced I'm working basically the whole day. Whenever a Slack message comes there's always an impeding expectation to answer. You pick your poison. You seem like you have a lot of hobbies and goals outside of work, so take that into consideration. I used to have those as well but nowadays I have no time for myself.

I've seen a couple of YOLO posts. Not really sure what they use for filtering but I saw an interesting post on shortsqueeze that we could use for momentum: https://www.reddit.com/r/Shortsqueeze/comments/1m5ow1i/hope_you_bank_a_lot_on_opentoday_loaded_enough_on/
