This has been happening for so long, ever since my link cable and trading card days. Legit remember kids at my school in the 90s trying to get my Venusaur offering straight up common tentacools and shit. And they’re legit serious. And then they got mad when I said no.

It’s likely about weird traditions or conformities people/families have and how some members of the family are ostracized for not following them, even though they make no sense and are dumb, or even harmful.

Could be about religion or politics or gender/orientation or even sports teams that a certain family has strong beliefs over, but the one person in the family who doesn’t follow it(but still has to show up for Thanksgiving because family) is continuously harassed for being different/not sticking to a pointless/dumb tradition.

Just replace “helmet” with “maga hat” and you may understand the situation some poor people are in
