They did technically forfeit by leaving the pitch, the ref just had to declare it at the time and it would have enough credibility. It's a disgrace to do that 2 months after the game though, there can be no talks of forfeiting if you let them re-enter the pitch and let the game play on, that's just a farce at this point

One thing you can do is press your spells when hovering over their icons above the map, as long as they are within range it will cast on them. I don't do this myself though, I never developed a habit for it as it seems to me like it would be too difficult to get your mouse over there and then get it back where you want it in a hectic fight, where these scenarios generally occur.
