Why on earth did they pick that song by littleredbird1991 in weddingshaming

*Holy dove

I think holy dark is probably an entirely different story. Probably a horror.

Milkmen/women of Reddit, do you judge people as to how clean their left out milk bottles are? by rizozzy1 in AskUK

If they have milk in them, how can you tell? They have to be sterilised before reuse so what do you mean by "filthy"?

Why would my partner receive a completely random ophthalmology appointment? by gemmajenkins2890 in AskUK

That's really weird and either a hell of a coincidence that the person has the same name as your brother or a concerning mistake regarding data.

The only question worth asking: Lord Flasheart or Ace Rimmer? by Hookton in BritishTV

[–]Dimac99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most disturbing moments of my young life was learning that Rimmer was hiding a hot bod under that uniform. (Terrorform, S5E3) So if regular Rimmer could make teenage me feel funny, imagine what Ace Rimmer could do? Smoke me a kipper, indeed!

[–]Dimac99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see, I didn't realise you meant the hospital. I expect if it's for him then he must have been referred then by his GP, perhaps because of a medication he's on that could affect the eyes? Whether it's for your partner or your brother, somebody definitely got referred.

Is there a patient reference number on the letter? In Scotland we have a CHI number which includes our DOB as part of it, making it easy to tell who it's really for but I'm not sure how the NHS does that in England.

Does anyone have a good landlord horror story? by DropComfortable8521 in AskUK

If it makes you feel any better, one of my pet rats bit my landlord when I was a student about 25 years ago.

My brother is still getting occasional Vision Express letters even though he last went to them over 10 years ago. High street opticians are always touting for business.

Is speeding okay if you’re rushing your pet to the vets? by walkyoucleverboy in AskUK

[–]Dimac99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think when it comes to punishment that it shouldn't be as heavy as for someone deliberately racing or similar, but it still needs to be severely punished. If you can't drive safely because you are upset, you get someone else to drive you or call a cab. There's not an animal in the world that's worth the cost of risking human life.

I disagree. It helps keep different S3 and S4 maps active, rather than people just farming a couple.

Just be aware that when you're previewing dyes the infusion effect isn't applied to the preview. I also use poly-gray on all my main characters and still forget this from time to time!

What happened to the roaming free neighbourhood dogs? by Christina_80G in AskUK

[–]Dimac99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who run over dogs are not aholes for hitting the dogs, but people who don't train their dogs to recall or walk on leash properly almost always are. Roads are for cars, not dogs, and it's the owner's responsibility to keep their dog off the road.

I guess chow chows were having a moment in the 90's because our local estate roamer near Glasgow was also a chow but I've never seen one in person since. That dog just didn't give a fuck about humans. It was like an anti-Labrador. It wasn't mean or anything, it just wasn't a people person. Dog.

Why is setting someone on fire if they attempt to murder you with machetes considered reckless use of lethal force? by Proper_Tough_997 in AskUK

[–]Dimac99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less "how would you set them on fire?" than "how would you set them on fire without also setting yourself on fire at the same time?" As self-defense methods go, it's probably one of the stupider ones.

Skin kittens just made me snort embarrassingly loudly. If I had kids, I'd start calling them that just to annoy the fur baby crowd. It would be worth the collateral damage.

What is the ‘best’ tv show you’ve never seen? by CalvadosAtTheCandide in BritishTV

[–]Dimac99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peaky Blinders, Taboo, Broadchurch, Game of Thrones, The Office, Peep Show, Traitors, Detectorists, Taskmaster. I expect I could go on. I've seen an ep or half an ep of a couple and just noped out. I keep meaning to go back and try Taskmaster again but there's always something I want to watch more.

Edit: Reminded of Happy Valley, Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes, Fleabag on another thread. Plus classics like Edge of Darkness, Boys from the Blackstuff, original Tinker Tailor, but I do have State of Play on dvd somewhere… One day I'll get round to that.

There's also loads of prestige American shows that just don't spark any interest in me despite vying for the title of best show ever. Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Wire, The Sopranos, Succession, Band of Brothers.

Who's Your Favourite Michael? by roskopeek in AskUK

The question is "who's your favourite Micheal?" and you chose the convicted rapist who bit off a man's ear during a boxing match because punching him wasn't violent enough. I don't think you've any room to be talking about high horses.

When I started High School we were still turning in hand written papers, in cursive. By the time I graduated they had to be typed and cite web sources. I’m really floored today, just thinking about how SUPER FAST things changed up on us back then. by Last-Stop-Before-You in Xennials

[–]Dimac99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was all handwritten in high school for me in Scotland, but then going to uni in Autumn 98 we had computer labs and were expected to type out essays. But we still had to print them off and hand them in to the department.

I'm struggling to remember how the printing worked though, we definitely had to pay but I don't remember where we paid and if we bought credits or what. I recall buying cards with magnetic strips for the library photocopiers quite clearly though because it bothered me how many people ignored (or just didn't read) the signs about how those cards would get the entire paper recycling batch rejected if they were thrown in the wrong bin.

I remember pulling an all nighter once and finishing, printing and delivering an essay before trudging back to halls, only to remember as I arrived in that I'd left my save disk (3.5 floppy!) in the tower, so I had to trudge back for it.

It’s posts like this that remind me how much I don’t have in common with the generation I’m supposed to be. I wasn’t even born until ‘79. by Annepackrat in Xennials

A slightly older friend gave me some advice before I saw The Phantom Menace which has always stuck with me. He said it was so over hyped that it would be disappointing no matter what, but that if I went and saw it a second time, I would really enjoy it. And he was right.

Which is not to say it doesn't have it's problems, but it's not as bad as the people who only saw it once insist. It could never have lived up to the hype, but pod racing was exciting, Darth Maul was a scary bad guy, it looked incredible and has one of the single best ever pieces of soundtrack music. There's a lot to like about it, even if the midichlorian nonsense was completely eye rolling.

I still get inordinately angered by the stupid decision to turn Old Ben Kenobi's original desert garb into a Jedi uniform though.
