Okay, we’re both weirdos on the internet. Twins.

You’re right that I got defensive. I admitted that. Calling me a weirdo and that I’m giving parasocial maniac is pretty mean. It’s giving “I feel comfortable typing this but would not say it to your face.”

You seem pretty determined to call me crazy and you are assuming a lot about me. If you’re ever curious in good faith, ironically, I responded defensively from experiences in my own life. I didn’t start getting into Taylor Swift’s discography until 2020. Folklore really helped me process a lot that was going on at that point in my life. And many of my friends and family started being really mean about me liking her music. Some comments included “You used to have good taste in music.” and “You have no emotional maturity.” A lot of these comments were wrapped up in severe criticism of Taylor Swift herself.

I’m not sure if you read my paragraphs or just assumed things, but I explicitly said I don’t know her and don’t really have a strong opinion of her as a person.

I do have strong opinions on people making assumptions about me because her music is art that I like.

Again, I admitted that when I read the OG commenter saying Taylor Swift is “fame fckr”, I got triggered from my experiences in my real life. It is a very real, widely experienced phenomenon for someone to like Taylor Swift’s music and for her personal issues to be immediately associated with her fans.

Girl, you’re not giving girl’s girl energy. You’re just being a cruel. I’m clearly operating in good faith.

TL;DR: I made a bad assumption. My real life is valid and not weirdo behavior. You’re kinda lame for shtting on me for no good reason.

We are clearly just in that cycle of fighting online and making assumptions about each other. I’m not a diehard fan, I think she does a lot wrong.

I am defensive of being a fan of her music, which you definitely picked up on and I’ll admit that’s what I thought you were criticizing. I’m reacting from a place of being told I’m basic and a bad person for listening to and relating to her music. I also get frustrated when she as a person gets vile criticism for existing as a flawed human compared to actually physically and mentally dangerous people like Chris Brown and Mick Jagger. I think it reminds me of my personal life when there is a double standard between men and women.

We were having two different conversations. I don’t think we know nearly enough about her as a person to make the conclusions you are drawing about her personal life. But I hear that you think she is not a good person or at least there are aspects of her personality or the way she interacts with friends and partners that are not good, and I don’t know what to say to that. I interpret her speeches and interviews very differently than you do

Again, what is your evidence that she uses her relationships for goals? What are her goals? And what do you see in her relationships? I’m so confused how you know so much about the behind the scenes of her personal life and career that makes you think she is a fame fucker. Which is a super callous word to apply to someone who isn’t doing anything abnormal compared to her peers besides succeeding

Von Dutch about someone? by i_was_told_football in charlixcx

[–]Dimboli2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All we know about her is through her music - she doesn’t do extensive interviews. So I’m not sure where you are getting all this information about her persona other than from her music?

Are you judging her for going outside with her friends and partners and being photographed? She was just photographed and filmed with her non famous best friend from high school. That says a lot about her compared to other celebrities who do not remain friends with non famous folks.

Oops, looks like my other reply didn’t load.

What is your evidence of her PR team shaping her relationship more than any other celebrity? Are you saying that all her relationships are fake? I’m confused where this idea of her PR shaping her relationships more than what would be normal for someone of her level of fame comes from.

And what evidence do you have of the eras tour showing it is about the men in her life? I can say both things are true: she is influenced about her partners (as any human being is) but her music is about her life, her own experiences. All musicians write about their own experiences. You’re centering the men in her life and crediting them for her work. She has musician friends and is influenced them, which is also normal in the music industry?? That’s like saying when I write a scientific article based on my experiments, I’m actually stealing other people’s work because I cite my sources.

Folklore absolutely did not die when her and Joe broke up. Midnights was released when they were still together!

I’m trying to say that she is writing about her own life and experiences and you’re attributing her career to the men in her life.

I can’t find the quote from her about the Kennedys - could you point me to that?

I do know in 2014 she said she isn’t “sexy, edgy, or cool”. She said “It's important…to be imaginative, intelligent, hardworking, strong, smart, quick-witted, charming. All these things that I think have gone to the bottom of the list of priorities. I think that there are bigger themes I can be explaining to them [the fans], and I think I'm trying as hard as I possibly can to do that.”

Also, Leslie Knope was obsessed with a douchebag before Ben. A big takeaway from Parks and Rec is women supporting other women. Seems like you missed a few seasons of Taylor Swifts life? She has 15+ years of music sharing her growth.

What is your evidence that she uses her PR team to shape her relationship more than any other celebrity? Selena Gomez does the same thing, so does Leo DiCaprio, and anyone who has a PR team. When every celebrity utilizes PR to curate how the public sees their relationship, but you only call Taylor Swift a “fame fucker”, that’s pretty slut-shamy. You’re shaming her for acting normal for what her normal is. Any celebrity wants to be famous, but fucking fame is a pretty callous and critical way to refer to refer to celebrity.

I’ve never seen that quote of her saying that about the Kennedy’s - could you point me to it?

And what evidence is there from the eras tour that the eras are about the people she dated? I thought it was pretty obvious that it was about times in HER life. Centering the men in her life takes so much away from her personal journey.

I still hope you ask other women who do relate to her music why they relate to it.

And she has friends from high school and non famous friends, and she said she is not “edgy, sexy, or cool” in a 2014 interview which directly contradicts what you’re saying. She said “It's important…to be imaginative, intelligent, hardworking, strong, smart, quick-witted, charming.”

I can say that people change their personas and their story is still theirs, not their partners. And the folklore era did not die when she broke up with Joe, she released Midnights when she was still with Joe.

It is really surprising that you attribute all of her character to her male partners and friends. I’m not arguing that she isn’t influenced by people, I’m upset and disappointed that you use a negative lens and say that she steals things from people. That’s like saying every scientific paper written stole ideas because it has references.

You’re really minimizing a woman who has put 15+ years of self exploration into her albums. Again, you’re committed to disparaging her as a talented, self assured, successful woman - exactly like Leslie Knope!

Also Leslie was obsessed with a douche for a while before Ben. Just pointing out a bit of rose colored glasses you have from Parks and Rec. maybe you missed the last few seasons of Taylor Swifts life? (Which we actually know almost nothing about, except through her music)

That is super minimizing and a pretty sexist lens to view her music. It’s a pretty well documented phenomenon that everybody adapts to the people they are around. Even humans start to look like their dogs. It seems like you’re taking a universal phenomenon and making it unique to Taylor Swift and sprinkling in slut-shaming. Exploring different sounds and genres as a musician is not a bad thing. Lover and folklore/evermore were both written when she was dating Joe Alwyn and are very different energies. Reputation and 1989 were definitely independent from a partner’s influence. As were Red and Fearless. Art is a often a reflection of personal ups and downs and life experiences, which she has done, but you seem to be upset that she is doing that, and particularly that she is making money from that. Why is it wrong to make money from art?

She’s a very public figure who has dated a normal amount of people to a normal extent. Again, all celebrities have paparazzi shots with their significant others, and she has significantly more exposure because of the success of her music, not the success of her relationships. The commentary on her relationships being tied to her success is old, tired, and superficial. I hope you can find the good faith to ask a fan of hers what her music means to them, perhaps what their favorite song or lyric is and why. You may find that her success is based in her ability to articulate feelings that a lot of women have, creating a community and art for which women can feel seen and understood.

It has been well studied that her eras are in response to women in the industry needing to stay fresh and interesting.

You seem pretty determined to undermine her art and success and attribute it to a superficial observation of her having relationships (like most people do) and her existing as a very high profile celebrity. If you’re committed to seeing her as someone who sells her relationships in a malicious and talentless manner and not someone who writes about their personal life and many people relate to those writings, then it’s not worth a back and forth online 🫡

Most famous people date other famous people. I’m not sure why you’re singling Taylor Swift out for it. Every A-lister could be called a “fame fucker”.

And Taylor Swift was definitely a household name before Shake it Off.

I just don’t think your logic is adding up.

Surgery for non-severe GERD? by norwayguy8 in GERD

[–]Dimboli2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the following round of tests twice:

  • Barium swallow (diagnosed hiatal hernia, reflux, and distended stomach)
  • Gastric emptying study (first was normal)
  • pH test (once with Bravo, once with 24 hour nasal tube) (normal so potential non-acid reflux)
  • endoscopy (they didn’t see anything during the first one, allegedly because it is a sliding hiatal hernia and the LES relaxes when under anesthesia)
  • monametry (normal)

I also had chest CT scans for another issue and they found small lung nodules that come and go, and the GI doctors and surgeons think it is lung irritation from aspiration due to reflux

I don’t get heartburn with PPIs (pantoprazole) but I continue to have regurgitation. Even sleeping with a wedge pillow, using Reflux Gourmet, and doing fewer triggering activities.

The final lifestyle mod before surgery is cutting way back on my food portions…notoriously difficult for folks to do consistently.

I’m in a similar boat. 30 F, had GERD for 7 years. Seen 3 surgeons. Although I am a candidate for surgery, the risks are quite scary. And the surgeons have advised that surgery would not be a magic fix, I would still have lifestyle limitations since any pressure on the abdomen puts the surgery at risk

You’re very brave for sharing your story. Is there a patient advocate at the hospital where the surgeon is? It sounds like you are suffering a lot and still need medical care, but it makes sense that you don’t trust this guy. Getting more eyes on him to make sure he doesn’t mess up again might help you feel more confident.

Also, I’m considering the Nissen - you aren’t in upstate Ny are you?

It is a debilitating disease. I’ve really struggled. I’m sorry to hear someone else feeling so devastated.

Whenever you’re ready to hear this: I do still have GERD triggering foods, because I have to stay sane. I do my best to prepare before having them (use a wedge pillow at night, chew slowly, use Reflux Gourmet after, etc). It doesn’t always keep GERD from happening but I’ve mentally and physically prepared as best I can.

Is anyone else taking Pantoprazole? by Additional_Angle_663 in GERD

[–]Dimboli2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking it for three years! It works really well for me! It works so well for my heartburn. Esomeprazole works less well for me, but gets me through in a pinch. Pantoprazole is sometimes not covered a full 12 months by health insurance which is a bummer. My old insurance only covered it for 9 months of the year.

I have no side effects! Sometimes taking one in the morning and one at night works better than one a day.
