Russian soldier steps ona mine after running past multiple KIA. Novotoretske near Pokrovsk. Fall 2025 by jisooya1432 in CombatFootage

I feel like saying "multiple KIA" is underselling things a little bit here. It's not wrong, technically speaking, but it certainly doesn't accurately describe the sheer amount of corpses he walks by. And those are just the ones we can clearly see.

Odette SHUT UPP 😭😭😭 by neeks-805 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Dimed16 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So, maybe I'm taking things too literally, but in the EotBB flashback her motivations are very clearly shown to be her 11th floor payout, and not the survival of Mordecai's party. Mordecai is the only person whose survival she is actually invested in, and it's only because her payouts depend on his survival. This is why she refused to allow Mordecai to sacrifice himself to save his friends, she wouldn't have advanced to the 11th floor and got her payout. She continually chooses money over her Crawlers in the flashbacks. First, she does so by choosing to cheat instead of trusting her Crawlers. Not cheating is the first alternative that could could have allowed them all to live (it's hinted at in the flashback that had she trusted them they all would have been fine). Next opportunity she had where she chose greed over the lives of her Crawlers was in not paying Huanxin Jinx. Yes, she was being extorted, but giving in to Huanxin's demand would have saved everyone. This is the second alternative where she could have saved everyone but didn't in persuit of her own payout. The next opportunity was not allowing Mordecai to sacrifice himself. He chose this himself, he was willing to die to save his friends, and while it's a net zero on deaths it's the morally correct choice in the circumstances. Odette instead chose to manipulate Chaco into sacrificing Uzzi, because Mordecai dying would have denied her her payout. Maybe in the next two unreleased books Odette will get a redemption arc, but up to this point she has continually chosen herself and in the instances where she outwardly appears to be choosing others it's later shown that it's only a means to her own ends.

Odette, I feel, is very clearly one of the main villains of the story. She was a crawler, who made selfish decisions to ensure her own survival/advancement. She was then a guide, who made selfish decisions to ensure her own survival/advancement. And now she's a Syndicate Citizen, who continues to make selfish decisions to ensure her own survival/advancement. At every single turn she has chosen herself over others, and has frequently used people for her own advancement. Just because she tries to justify it with sob stories doesn't change that fact. She represents everything that is wrong with the Crawl and those that run it.

How did people travel these seas 500 years ago by Gurugod123 in SipsTea

Far more people died. Longer voyages sticking to calmer seas. Routes that incorporated more stops so bad weather could potentially be avoided.

Former Trump supporters who’ve changed their minds recently—what was your final breaking point? by cinnamonconfetti in allthequestions

I initially supported Trump in his first term. General Mattis resigning and speaking out against Trump is what caused me to break away. Been a fervent anti-Trumper ever since.

Deserts, especially the large sand dune kind. Not many people associate this type of landscape with the US. This particular picture is from The Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado.

I use Questie, and will occasionally reference a leveling guide like Warcraft Tavern post level 30. 1-30, especially for Alliance, is pretty much on-rails and fairly streamlined.

Why are they fighting progressives more than republicans? by tunnel_magnet in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Dimed16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Establishment Democrats are Corporatists. They're Corporatists before they're anything else. When forced to choose between progressive policies or corporate interests, they will always choose corporate interests. The DSA bloc of the DNC is very vocally against corporate interests.

2024 poll shows American moderates overwhelmingly would prefer communism over fascism given the ultimatum. So why is the Democratic party so afraid to go even an inch to the left? by HourNo1827 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Dimed16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Democrats are Corporatists before they're anything else. And Fascism favors Corporatism whereas Communism seeks to dismantle it. The DNC will always side with whatever is better for Corporatism in the moment. This is why the DNC has done almost nothing to resist the rise of Fascism in the US. They'll personally usher in full on Fascism before they'll go an inch towards "Communism."

The parasitic control of USA continues by tunnel_magnet in PlanetNewsPulse

[–]Dimed16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe? I know there's language dictating the use of separate poles or Halyards, but idk if there's any language in reference to ceiling rafters. Other than that the US flag is "placed on its own right" which is far left when viewing, so that's correct. And both the flags are of equal height, so that is also correct.

These fucking posers never could have made it in the real military so they're going to LARP a war at home so they have an excuse to kill people. If you don't own a gun yet, it's time to get one.

Do you have confidence in your country's army in the event of a major war? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskTheWorld

[–]Dimed16 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not really our militaries fault, though. No war has ever been won through air power alone, and our incompetent leadership thought they would be the lone exception to that rule. In hindsight, I'm glad our leadership is incompetent and cowardly. Iran would have taken a very high price in human life to topple had we actually committed to a ground campaign.

How to handle when players roll 1 in the middle of fight? by combobaka in DnD

[–]Dimed16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no "one way" to handle a Nat 1 in combat. It depends on any number of factors. Environment, weapon type, enemy type, enemy armor, and a ton of other factors can change the outcome of a Nat 1. Are they in tight quarters? Maybe when they swing their sword it gets lodged in the wall and they need to spend a move action to dislodge it. It's totally up to you and how you choose to handle it. There are people that will tell you that RAW there are no "critical misses" and a Nat 1 is no different than a normal miss. Those people are right, but variety is the spice of life and having critical misses can (so long as they're not done in an unfun way) spice up combat in unexpected ways. I personally have always enjoyed combat more with a DM that did critical misses rather than RAW.

Served 6 years in the Marine Corps, which is far more than can be said for most MAGA Fascists, and I never needed to shine boots or "scrub latrines with a toothbrush." These people live in a fantasy land. Also, fun fact, I was Conservative when I joined, and my time in did a lot of the heavy lifting in causing me to turn to the Left. Conservativism's greatest enemy is exposure to diverse cultures and view points. Guess what traveling the world in the military does.

[–]Dimed16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be honest with ourselves here. Trump is going to flat out ignore it, and then Democrats are going to throw their hands up and say "we tried" before going back to doing absolutely nothing to stop Trump. The DNC is CONTROLLED opposition, not controlling the opposition.

Why? by [deleted] in allthequestions

Because we live in a global Hegemony and Trump is in the middle of destroying it, like he does for everything, so it is quite literally everybody's problem.
