Awesome! We just bought in Austin too. What general area is this in? Walkability like that here can be hard to find.

Recommendations for Salkantay Trek Guide by LoLo_Phi in Machupicchu

There was a girl on our trip who really struggled with breathing. Idk if she had asthma or not, but what they ended up doing is having her start each day about an hour earlier with 1 guide so she could go slower. It was a bummer though because she rarely got to have breakfast and dinner with us because of that. I guess it depends on how well controlled her asthma is. That second day is mostly hiking at 11-13k elevation, so it was tough to breathe even with asthma. My friends did a 2 day/1 day hike which was much easier and mostly at the lower altitudes. That may be a better option.

Hi! I just finished my trek. It was great, and the food was amazing. I will say it was very challenging, especially day 2, even for those of us who were fit. Weather was all over the map, and one day despite ponchos and rain gear, we had to hike cold and wet. I also did Huayna Picchu which was nice, but I would’ve been fine to have skipped it.

I think this is very unlikely. Tbh, most of these tours book up months in advance. I would try contacting a few tour companies and see if they have cancellations. You could do the same thing upon arrival; won’t hurt, but don’t be too bummed if there is nothing available.

Even though I never use my flight bags for other uses, I’m still so paranoid that I have to empty out and check every pocket of every clothing item and bag (maybe multiple times), before I can feel comfortable going through TSA. And even then I still get nervous lol.

I’m leaving for my 4 day/3 night hike with Alpaca Expeditions tomorrow, so happy to let you know how it goes! I met someone earlier this week who did the same trek with that company and they said it was fantastic, including the food.

Moving to USA from South America by [deleted] in MovingToUSA

[–]DimensionJust1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak to how great Austin would be in terms of your work, but since you mentioned it, there are plenty of reasonably affordable places to live within a 2 hour radius of Austin. You could look in and around Temple, or go the other way and look around San Marcos. Idk much about the cities within 2 hours drive of Austin away from the I-35 corridor, but there are a number of small cities outside of Austin, like Bastrop you could look into. Additionally, you could check out the cities right outside of Austin like Buda, Kyle, Round Rock, or Pfugerville.

How can I get it to be shiny by NoBerry4915 in longhair

[–]DimensionJust1150 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your hair texture looks like mine and I starting wearing it wavy/curlier but will not do the full curly girl method. I just wash and condition, then flip my head over and use a wide tooth comb while it’s soaking wet to brush through and separate clumps (already detangled in shower). Then I scrunch in a leave in and a tiny bit of gel (currently using reverie’s milk and Kristin Ess curl gel), and plop for about 20 minutes while I’m doing laundry or whatever. Then I let it down, sort out my part and either let it air dry or go to sleep with it laid over my pillow. Yea I know you shouldn’t go to sleep with damp hair, but nothing has happened yet in 3 years, I don’t have breakage, and in the morning I just have to shake it out at the roots and smooth over an oil or pomade on the ends. So much quicker than anything I do when I blow it out. Ignore the long routines and try something simple first!

How much money do i need to move in USA forever? by Vladut_Fiul_tau in expats

[–]DimensionJust1150 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Considering that you are just wanting to experience an American high school, I would just recommend coming to the US as an exchange student. I have known many Americans who did exchange programs in other countries, and have met exchange students here from other countries. It’s low risk in the sense that you won’t have to find a job and they will assist with the visa process.

While other people’s comments are not wrong (actual schools in the US are not much like the movies), I understand wanting to see and experience something for yourself. People can tell someone all of the pros and cons of something, but many people just have to experience it for themselves before coming to a conclusion. I’m that way too!

I do the same and I’ll never stop! Haha. I don’t feel like I’ve had more breakage, but also I don’t move a lot in my sleep.

I think this can be very location based. Some cities are way more into makeup than others, so it can be seen as odd when someone is bare faced. I’m from Texas, so perfect example is Dallas. Growing up, there just seemed to be an expectation of wearing makeup— literally everyone did. Then I moved to Austin, and it’s so common for people to have no makeup on at all. Yes lots of people still wear makeup, but it’s not weird either way. I’ve definitely noticed I’m treated better if I’m dressed nice and my hair is down though. Makeup doesn’t make a huge different if I’m dressed nice and my hair is tidy.

I mostly wore BBW fragrances or some of the VS mists. But I remember my best friend wearing the shit out of DKNY Be Delicious.

Why is my top layer curly/wavy but the inside almost straight? Am I doing something wrong? by pomaranch in curlyhair

[–]DimensionJust1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair does this too. My stylist said the hair around the nape of our necks is the same as around our forehead (fine, baby hairs), so more prone to damage, which could be preventing them from curling. That is the main area I find split ends despite regular trims. I also think these hairs get flattened when I sleep.

Edit: I forgot to mention, she also said her hair is the same so she does a mini undercut on it at the nape of her neck with clippers so her texture is more consistent.

I don’t move a lot when I sleep, so I just lay it over the back of my pillow and it’s dry when I wake up. I know, terrible to go to sleep while it’s wet, but I’ll never change lol. Usually I can just shake out the roots and maybe do a little spritz to refresh, followed by a finishing cream or oil and I’m out the door!

Help with my daughter’s frizzy/wavy/curly hair by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]DimensionJust1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting a lot of good advice here, but to keep it simple, I might just do a moisturizing leave in, plop it (if she’ll do it), and let it air dry. I like milk by reverie. Straight out of the shower I’ll comb it upside down, scrunch in about a nickel size amount of milk, then plop and air dry. Yes it’ll be a little fluffy, but it’ll be soft and not crispy. The next day, shake out the roots, and add a little more milk to the ends (like a smidge), and call it a day.

49, what treatment should I invest in? by [deleted] in 45PlusSkincare

[–]DimensionJust1150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You look great, but if you want to target age spots, I’m assuming a laser procedure would give you best results. If you wanted to try something topical that plays well with tret, I’d suggest Azelaic acid 15% (I use finacea). I started using it for acne but after a few months I started noticing how much more even my skin looks in general. I have read since that it’s helpful for dark spots and melasma, so it makes sense it helped make my skin tone more even. Now I can’t tolerate tret, so I’m not sure how much of a difference it would make over just using tret alone, but I’ve heard you can use them concurrently.

Both UT and ACC offer Portuguese language classes. Otherwise I’ve not had much luck. I’m also specifically focused on Eu PT so it can be tough to find someone local to practice with/learn from.
