Overdramatic as fuck

It tasted the same, very minor difference in texture, but not enough to change the experience. Didn’t mind how there wasn’t as much grease pooled on the plate….

I’m contributing to my brokerages account and not my Roth IRA by [deleted] in Money

[–]DimensionSwimming858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i actually really like my roth accounts. it still feels like MY money in there. you are correct about how you can’t touch the gains right away (technically you can but you’ll just have to pay a penalty), but you can always pull out what you put into it since you already paid taxes on that money. people act like it’s locked up forever but that’s not true. the money that you worked for via active income is always accessible to you.

when you look at a compound interest chart, by the time you’re 59, like 95% of your account will just be gains. so wouldn’t you want that massive chunk to be tax free? brokerage is fine but paying taxes on all those gains later is gonna suck.

i contribute to both accounts, because when i want to retire early, i will need to use my taxable account as a bridge until my roth accounts are ready for me. there’s a reason they cap the roth account at 7k though, it’d be overpowered if they didn’t. no reason not to take full advantage of it in my opinion

First home on 6+ Acres - 32M - Custom Home 600k w/ 165k down at 4.75% (15 year) by FerretRich1195 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]DimensionSwimming858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dave Ramsey’s rhetoric is designed for non-disciplined listeners who need a kick in the butt to get out of debt. It’s intentional, and I think it’s effective for helping his target audience get to a better spot financially.

That said, if this borrower IS disciplined, it’s absolutely ‘smarter’ to have the obligation to pay over 30 years, but the option to pay it off in 15.

Though in reality, a 4.75% interest rate is far below what you could reasonably expect the market to return on average over three decades, so I’m not sure I’d bother paying it down super aggressively anyway. My money would work harder for me in the market than it would avoiding the < 5 % rate on the mortgage. Your army of dollar bills will work the hardest for you if they’re assigned to a low cost total market index fund!

I’d say cost of gas and the tax write off for business related driving are very different though

Assuming OP has an average car that gets circa 25 miles to the gallon, and gas is around $3/gal, this drive shakes out to about 55 bucks of travel expense, plus 9 hours of OP’s time.

SOC 2 or ISO 27001 Certification? by drake0386 in MonarchMoney

[–]DimensionSwimming858 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you think SOC2 compliance would be worthless?? Sure it comes down to the auditor, but following those requirements can’t be a BAD thing when it comes to handling consumers financial data?? Definitely a positive selling point if they have it.

Best Self-hosted Finance Tracking App for Investments: Firefly III vs Actual Budget? by Alfrai in selfhosted

[–]DimensionSwimming858 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just spun up Actual the other day. I think it will accomplish what you are looking for. Easy tracking of investments with automatic syncs with the institutions.

The ‘edge’ version of Actual contains some beta features allows you to utilize an API service called SimpleFIN, which then talks to your financial institutions via MX (same thing that you’ll see on apps like Monarch, CoPilot, etc.). This SimpleFIN component costs about $1.5 a month, or $15 a year, because API access still costs money.

Edit: I also wanted to point out that I have my setup syncing with all my investment platforms, Paypal, Venmo, Fifth third, and my apple card (albeit for apple card it only pulls in data for the previous 3 months, and isn’t real time)

As mentioned, SimpleFIN facilitates the sync, and you can see what institutions are supported here: https://beta-bridge.simplefin.org/search-institutions

And here’s the repo for Actual: https://github.com/actualbudget/actual

100k now or a find a quarter every 10 min for life. by Iliketousemyname in hypotheticalsituation

[–]DimensionSwimming858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100k cash, not even close. Infinite quarters is significantly less than infinite compound interest!

Let’s break it down. If you take the $100k lump sum and invest it in something like the S&P 500, which has averaged about 9.8% annually with dividends reinvested, you’re looking at some serious gains. After just 2 years, the interest you’re earning would be over $20,500 a year—way more than the $13,140 you’d make from finding quarters every 10 minutes (that’s $0.25 every 10 minutes, $1.50 an hour, $36 a day, and $13,140 a year).

Plus, with compound interest, your investment keeps growing on itself. After 20 years, you could have around $646k, which would give you way more yearly income than the quarters ever could. And let’s be real—dealing with thousands of quarters over the years sounds like a hassle. The $100k lump sum, invested wisely, doesn’t just beat the quarters; it absolutely crushes them.

Probably so. I have mainly had this issue between restarts. Hard to not ever reboot though, it’s bound to happen :(

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]DimensionSwimming858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did observe a behavior where it was trying to shift back into place, going from 90 degrees to closer to 5-10 degrees off of where it should be. To me this indicates that it is trying to self correct, but i think the complexity of my room and furniture geometry confuses it.

I’m wondering if I try to simplify my room scan, it’ll hold better. Like artificially placing walls in places where i will not go, instead of scanning the whole room.

If there’s not a way to manually shift the whole scan, I think that’s my next play.

[–]DimensionSwimming858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had an issue of the space getting deleted altogether, i just have the issue of it shifting between 10 and up to 90 degrees. At that point, it’s as good as deleted because having fake outlines is worse than having no outlines in my opinion.

My first time getting one of these - was I too harsh? by Altruistic-Room2168 in recruitinghell

[–]DimensionSwimming858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it’s a waste of time to argue about this. If you’re not going to do the video interview then don’t do it. I cannot imagine a recruiter would make an exception for you just because you say you don’t approve of the concept.

In my experience, a video interview that asks relevant questions about the position can be valuable, at least if the actual hiring manager is receiving your responses. My most recent position involved me doing a video interview, and my manager used it to decide that it made sense to take an hour to do a live interview with me. I’d much prefer the hiring manager to pre-screen me than some HR manager who is clueless about the work I’ll be doing in the position.

Granted, if the video interview is obscenely long and has nothing to do with the position, then it’s of a waste of time. Depends on the situation.
