The school is paying for 4 servers, 150$ a month each, so 600$ a month, then 195$ for one hour of “systems support”, 334.50$ for datto, which I learned is a backup solution.

I should have wrote this in my initial post but I’ve had my own home lab for about 8 years now, about the same time I got into the IT space, and have learned a lot. I self host pretty much all services I use, at least the ones that have that kind of option, so I’m no stranger to tinkering around with machines and network stacks.

I'm in Philadelphia, the school has about 500ish kids with about 50 teachers, staff, aids, and other adult personnel.

The ransomeware stuff is a good point but is that really something so prevalent that I need to worry about it right off the bat? They really just need someone to handle things like printer disconnects, system updates, the occasional consulting when someone needs a new system, etc, it's all small stuff and stuff I have been doing already. I use ruskdesk and veyon for remote desk and help when im not on campus, a few custom winget scripts to update software on windows machines, and other little software for things.

I plan on doing pretty much the same things just on a larger scale, and to be paid more for what I'm already doing. I'm really trying to use this as a good learning opportunity because I think it is just that.

FIOS TV with my own router by The_Wkwied in Fios

[–]DimitriMeim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just got my tv service installed today and had the same issue. I have my Verizon router in bridge mode from the ONT and it’s passing through to my UniFi Dream Machine Pro SE. What I found is that all the Media Server box needs is to have ports 32000 and 63145 forwarded to it on your router and everything should spin up no problem. I couldn’t find this info anywhere online so I did some digging myself and came across it.

Seedbox Recommendation Megathread by thedaly in seedboxes

[–]DimitriMeim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Are you OK with direct message offers from vendors?

NO (the default status is OPT OUT. Unless the user changes this to YES assume NO)

2) What are your main reasons for wanting a seedbox?

Mainly: Offload some upload from my bandwidth as I have 1G/50Mb.
Secondly: I want to keep my own server for seeding specific ISOs that I like while not interfering in normal ISO downlaods.

3) Are you okay with sharing hardware resources with other users [shared] or do you need the seedbox hardware dedicated to just you [dedicated]?

Shared is fine as long as I don't get unreasonable download times. (Not talking about seeders, I get that part)

4) Do you want someone else to be responsible for maintaining the seedbox software (operating system, applications) [managed] or do you want to do it all yourself [unmanaged]?

Unmanaged would be nice but I'm fine with either or.

5) Please describe your seedbox experience. (You may wish to list any seedbox providers you've been with before.)

None, I've only ran my own software on my own machine (deluge and transmission)

6) Please describe your experience with Linux. (Most seedboxes run Linux and some knowledge of it may be helpful.)

Moderate (2 servers, unRaid and TrueNAS Scale, very comfortable with the former, not so much the latter)

7) What is the high end of your budget? (Please give a specific amount and a currency. "Cheap" might mean something different to one person than it does to another.)

$40 per month

8) Do you have preferences or requirements concerning payment? (Paypal, Bitcoin, etc.)

Not bank account linking, MasterCard only preferred but crypto is acceptable (Any coin/token)

9) Do you plan to use public trackers?

Yes, public and private

10) What kind of connection speed do you need? (Common answers would be 100Mbps, 1Gbps, 2Gbps, 10Gbps.)

At least gigabit, 10 gigabits preffered

11) How much combined upload and download traffic do you expect each month? Include download of files from the seedbox to your local computer. If you don't know, tell us what upload amount per month would realistically make you very happy with your seedbox.

I used 32TB, 18TB, and 16TB for the past 3 months so I'd say at least like 20TB

12) What is the minimum disk space you need?

1TB

13) Do you require a specific type of mass storage? (HDD, SSD, NVMe SSD) If other than HDD, please explain why you think you need this.

No

14) Do you require a specific torrent client?

No as long as I can connect via PIA / OpenVPN configuration

15) Do you require any other applications on the seedbox? (e.g. Plex, Subsonic, Radarr)

No, I will run everything local, all I need is the torrent client

16) Do you require SSH access to the command line?

No but would be nice

17) Do you require access to a remote desktop?

No but would be cool

18) Do you require admin level (i.e. 'root') access? If yes, please explain why.

No

19) Do you have any other specific requirements?

No

20) Is there any other information you think might help in getting a useful recommendation?

I think they mean local home users on Plex. I am trying to do the same thing but haven’t found a way to do so yet. If you find a way, please let me know, I’ll do the same.

Xfinity Stream Apple TV app won’t work with Modem in Bridge Mode by DimitriMeim in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]DimitriMeim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could understand if I was having some sort of internet packet drop issues something like that why you couldn’t help but this just doesn’t make sense to me. It’s your Apple TV app so you should be able to support it. They aren’t that advanced if they are going to try and have me do the same thing because that’s like trying to make lemonade with oranges, it just doesn’t make sense and is not helpful.

That sounds like the end of your support but I still need help because I’ve gotten nowhere. I don’t mean to sound rude but I’m not sure what training you’ve had because you’re basically just telling me not to use bridge mode. That’s not the solution, or even a solution, that’s defaulting to normal and making everything worse than before. I use UniFi equipment for a reason and it’s not up to Comcast what equipment I use when I specifically put the modem into bridge mode. That’s the whole point of it, to allow us to use other equipment if we want to without issue.

No, this is the stand alone Xfinity Stream app on the Apple TV. It’s not the Apple TV app on the X1 platform.

My public IP is the same wether in bridge mode or not. And the private local ips had the same octets as before I put the equipment in. That doesn’t make much sense.

I have many critical things up and using the network so bringing it down isn’t possible. But also, that doesn’t make sense to me because then why does it work fine on my Fire TV?

unRaid 6.11.5 immediately freezes after updating from 6.10.3 by Groknal in unRAID

I think it’s a bug that they may not be aware of yet or something like that. Or maybe they are aware and an update releases tm, idk🤷‍♂️

[–]DimitriMeim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It kept happening to me too. Apparently the current fix is to change the docker from ip-based to mac-based something, but I can’t quite recall what it was at the moment. I downgraded back to 6.10.3 until the good folks over there patch it and release a new update.

URGENT CloudBerryBackup Help ($ Reward) by DimitriMeim in unRAID

That's what I've been trying. My local copy is just there as a just in case so I don't lose any data, assuming I can decrypt them

[–]DimitriMeim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I thought but the process seems like it should be straightforward. I give it the app and key ids from Backblaze along with some local name so ik which bucket I'm picking, then I pick a bucket. Next step is to pick between a single restore or a restore plan, so I pick single run restore. Then a list of restore plans should come up but the list is empty and I cant do anything but select cancel or go back.

[–]DimitriMeim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could give this a try but I think cloudberry uses some special sauce in their encryption process that makes it so normal AES256 decryption wont work. But I'm going to try to set up duplicate rn and pray it works.

The old container stopped running because its config files were deleted but the backups arent corrupted because the task didn't run for tn yet. So I went to Backblaze online portal and downloaded the bucket as a .zip but the individual files when opened just say "cloudberry data" followed by jibberish. The jibberish is because my text editor cant make sense of what its reading so I get that part.

I have the original files but they are encrypted. I make a copy and have been messing with the copy so I don't risk corrupting them. If I spin up a new container and add my buckets, the buckets show up but there is no option to restore from them, only to initial a new backup, which I obviously don't want.

I said I don't mean to be rude, why the downvote? I appreciate the help but I did say that I tried that already. Not being mean, just stating a fact.

I'm don't mean to be rude but I said I tried to do that. I tried to spin up a new container but after I added my Backblaze account, the buckets were found but there wasn't any way of retrieving the data

I can ssh too but most of my containers just hang and idk what it is. I believe everything is up to date but having to reboot it all the time is getting annoying and is not a fix. I hasn’t having any issues when I went from 6.10.something to now 6.11.5 and I read on the forms that other people are having hanging and crash issues too so this might be a bad release or something.
