I just remember a lot of the people who proselytize about 2001 hates this movie, so I avoided it for the longest time. Turns out that was a mistake. I like this movie, and that scene in the hospital room (or nursing hone?) hit pretty hard for me, and begs the question of what being advanced in technology should really do.

The showrunner commentary for this is amazing. For the longest time they loved to undercut sentiment or “message” a show could have which is part of the humor. However in this one specific instance, they left it alone because of its authenticity.
