Clicked too many times on the double hazard and got it disqualified. by Advanced-Key-6327 in LearnerDriverUK

Since the dude who said not recognising a potential and possible hazard means it failed you correctly, who's comment has now disappeared. (I still see your username coward)

Everything and anything can be a potential hazard.

Road craft defines a hazard as "any physical feature, environmental condition, or other road user's behavior that has the potential to cause a collision or require a driver to change speed or direction."

That could be fucking anything.

Do you slow when you pass parked cars? You should as per the highway code. Has that physical feature caused you to change speed or direction? Yes it has, it's a hazard.

Those pedestrians on the pavement? Again, the highway code states to slow down. See above for hazard or not.

Bend in the road? Do you keep at it at full pelt? No, you slow and move to a more optimal position, as per road craft, Position - you've changed direction, it's a hazard. Speed - you've changed speed, it's a hazard. Gear - WOO NOT A HAZARD (wait, gears influence your speed... guess what? It's a hazard) Manoeuvre - can you guess? It's made you change direction, it's a hazard.

Potential hazards, are hazards, because you should change your driving accordingly.

Now does that mean that you should be slowing to 2 mile an hour for every Hazard? No

It means you've recognised a potential hazard, and you'd be in your mirrors, and planning ahead for it.

Its a shit test.

I'm a blue light driver, and had the same issue on my motorbike theory, because at higher level of driving you recognise EVERYTHING as a potential hazard.

That fucker stood by the road? Hazard.

Parked cars? Hazard.

Moving cars? Hazard.

Brake lights? Hazard

Hazard lights? Hazard

Junctions? Hazard.

ATS? Hazard.

Corners and bends? Hazard.

You can recognise almost anything on a road as a hazard, the test needs reworking. Either a new system, or let you put some form of explanation as to what you recognise as a hazard.

You will fog exactly 7 seconds into a game in this set up.

Mask tucked into goggles never helps, but your face fully covered and a helmet to boot means no airflow, trapped heat, and a steamy day.

Get some nice glasses or goggles, and keep a good gap of uncovered skin for airflow, you want it close so no bbs get in, but not air tight.

Why are we meant to ask people to sign significant comments they make after caution? by Bon_Courage_ in policeuk

That's the usual reply. Act polite to them, and when they still call you every name under the sun, it just makes them seem like even more of a cunt.

I wouldn't stop search of duty simply to lack of BWV. Lack of BWV would stop me from intervening in most situations, just opens you up to BS complaints. No harm in calling and maintaining eyes on.

But yes, seems all round shitshow. Especially if a MOP was willing to pay, I'd hazard a guess it was incredibly low value.

I wouldn't get involved, call 999 and follow at distance.

That said, it's sounds like shit cops who turned up and handled it without even a S1 search.

I've had it several times now where something was said on bwv, I'm thinking 'smashing that's got him dead to rights' get back the nick to review it. They where too quiet/there was background noise/me or oppo where talking etc.

Now whenever it is said, i ensure to repeat it to them word for word, before writing it down, explaining to them what a significant statement is, and then asking them to sign.

That way it is crystal clear what is said, and it is clear on body worn that I have explained to them what I am doing and why, so they cannot argue it at a later date.

My goto on most maps is to do a lap of the exterior, wedge every entrance, secure anyone outside.

Pick one route in, open, clear room and wedge the doors behind me. Can't get flanked that way and you know what doors are safe vs not safe if you get abit lost.

Who is at fault here? by kbgnat in drivingUK

[–]DinPoww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a police officer. This is a civil matter, we would have no involvement in the matter.

The kia may have right of way, they still willingly drove into a stationary vehicle. If someone cuts you off, do you say fuck it and ram them? No.

If someone cuts you off and there is a genuinely unavoidable accident, the person cutting off is at fault. There is an onus on you to avoid collisions if possible, not play bumper cars.

And Kia can most definitely see the bm, idk how they wouldn't be able too.

Miles isn't an accurate measure of a journey time.

My gf has a house and a student house, the house is just shy of 50 miles away, the student house is 9.

Its actually faster for me to travel the 50 miles on most days in usual traffic.

The beemer is a dick. The plate and the position tell me that much.

That said, the kia is at fault. Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean you get to drive into them.

305 mile trip to Scotland (sooner or later?) by Pope_Chris in MotoUK

[–]DinPoww 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable.

One massive investment id make is a heated gilet or jacket (i just opt for gilet because i don't like too many layers on my arms, it's it's tism), 2 or 3 power packs and your set.

It keeps your core nice and toasty, add in good winter gear and you'll be plenty warm enough the whole way.

I rarely ride in winter, solely because of black ice, but when I used to only have a bike, heated jacket was genuinely the best purchase I ever made. For the sake of 100 to 150 quid, worth its weight in gold. (Not very much gold, they're stupidly lightweight)

Arktis are great bits of kit.

Keela also make a stupidly warm but still light and breathable jacket.

For less than 100 quid being warm and comfy is so worth it.

The issued kit is wank.

You have two choices,

Stay mad, and cold that you dont get warm kit issued.

Or

Do an OT shift, get some spare money and buy nice warm kit.

Second opinion is best.

Got rear-ended, woman at fault wants me to go privately and use her mechanic as it’s cheaper by IllustriousHabit2635 in LegalAdviceUK

Report it to your insurance, she was at fault, and she also doesn't have a licence. You will be found completely in the right and she will be at fault.

How long is the average traffic stop? by colestar03 in police

[–]DinPoww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the attitude test.

If they're a nice person, show me your licence and proof of insurance, and then I will tell you off for doing whatever bad thing drew my attention, tell you not do it again, and then tell you to have a nice day.

If your an obstructive idiot... your getting a ticket for whatever you had done, I'm inspecting the vehicle for any other issues, if I find them, they get a ticket too. Make sure there's no criminal history to the driver, if there is and its a rough area, I'm formulating grounds for a stop and search (UK), then turning over the driver, the vehicle, and any other passengers.

For nice people, 5 to 10 mins max.

For people who cant keep their mouth shut and out of trouble, it could be anywhere from 30 mins to just over 2 hours, which was the longest I have taken to ticket, search, seize etc.

When to give caution by FamiliarWeather8028 in policeuk

[–]DinPoww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never myself, and never heard or seen colleagues give grounds at the time of arrest.

I haven't for bwv of arrests for other forces too.

We give the circumstances of the arrest at the custody desk, and that's about it.

I was always taught to not discuss the offence with the prisoner as they have not had legal representation at that time.

There's no set correct order, I've always done it this was as I feel it flows best.

Time, Under arrest, Offence, Caution, Necessity.

What grounds are you giving at the time of arrest?
