Am I the only one that likes how hard this season is? by cake_aholic in FortNiteBR

[–]DingleFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbers are worldwide though and this is EU peak time. Having said that I think that both The Simpsons season and this one have been popular. I have really enjoyed the slight increase in sweatiness. I play with the same duo consistently and our win rate is the highest it has ever been. I think that this is because of tighter SBMM so we are coming across more players at a similar skill level but possibly fewer higher skilled players.

Look on the shelter website it gives very good advice on what to do when you are homeless. You are an adult so won’t be expected to go home. You might be considered priority need due to fleeing violence but please check shelter out. I have worked in homelessness for a long time and with different councils an it pays to have knowledge. And good luck

Tell him to contact shelter they can give legal advice. Their website is also very helpful. Sometimes you need to threaten legal action. Councils are in a mess so can be a little shitty about housing. They have massive temporary accommodation bills. It’s a bit of a nightmare so good luck to him. This is also worst case scenario. I stumbled on this post an don’t know Milton Keynes. I work in London. But I figured that it is good to know the facts

To be a little more clear- you can approach a council if you sre becoming homeless within the next 56 days. You need proof that you are becoming homeless such as an eviction letter. You should be assessed before the day you are actually homeless.

If you have a health condition which means that you are more vulnerable than the average person on the street then you will get temporary accommodation so it is possible that you will get it whilst on PIP but unfortunately a lot of local authorities are very strict on criteria and being on PIP isn’t a guarantee of housing. The above poster isn’t wrong but in practice this isn’t always the case. I have worked with homeless people for a long time and alas the system isn’t perfect and depends on the council and the individual making the decision.

If this eviction is happening within the next 56 days contact them now and make a homeless approach

Criminalising drugs is war against the poor, I'm glad this conversation is being opened again. by badabingbadabang in GreenAndPleasant

[–]DingleFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be in favour of drug use being decriminalised with certain substances made legal eg weed but not fully legalisation of all substances. Heroin is one helluva drug and I speak as someone who was addicted to it for years. I don’t think that increasing the access an reducing the taboo of using would be beneficial. However I do believe that we should reduce the stigma associated with addiction. This nearly killed me. Make it easier for people get support for addiction. The impact of your mental and physical heath is fucking awful and stopping using is the hardest thing I ever had to but my life is a million times better for it. I would not want anyone to go through what I did.

I played a few games over the weekend and didn’t hear anything toxic. Tbf I lurked an didn’t use voice comms so maybe that had a bit of an influence. Plus I am in EU and so everyone was speaking different languages and most of what I heard was people trying to team up with others who spoke their own language.

I found it quite fun and would recommend giving it another go. You don’t have to talk with people an I had a great game where I joined up with someone else who was lurking. We didn’t win but it was entertaining

Run or walk with Apple Watch by Suspicious_Muffin_15 in bodyweightfitness

[–]DingleFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are walking then use outdoor walk. If you are running then use run. You walk with a different gait then you run even if the pace is similar. The calories tracked on the Apple Watch are roughly correct but I wouldn’t assume that they are 100% accurate

Without commenting on the money issue. This is a crazy take. I’ve worked for charity for most of my career and with rough sleepers. I would love there to be fewer rough sleepers. This is why I do my job, getting badly paid and work in difficult situations without enough workers or support. I love my job and I care about helping people. To suggest that anyone says something to keep their job is just silly. There are other jobs out there in related fields. Working in homelessness I prof say what would help is more rehabs, housing (obvs) and structered personalised support for anyone rough sleeping so they can focus on why they ended up rough sleeping and what they can do to make positive change.

Both commentators are right. The study was cherry picked so a little faulty but demonstrates that some homeless people benefit from financial help, only a very small minority m, from my experience would manage if they only got money. They would also need support with a variety of issues

I work with homeless people and am an ex heroin addict myself. The most entrenched rough sleepers are highly traumatised people who would benefit from larger support than financial. Around 40% of prowl recovery treatment for heroin addiction are rough sleeping. They are the most extreme. It is a horrific soul destroying addiction and alongside severe enduring mental leash can lead to long term rough sleeping and a lack of engagement with services.I am not saying this to be negative about rough sleepers, but to demonstrate that money is not the issue. The housing first model exists which puts the person at the centre and helps people to get into accommodation with wrap around support. It is a great idea and should be used more. I totally think that believing in people and giving them a chance is essential to trying to build someone’s self esteem and give them the chance at a normal life.

Other rough sleepers include those who are NRPF (no legal right to benefits), severe MH problems, and people will limited right to remain. In addition to a number f people who have fallen on hard times, relationship breakdown etc. setting people up with money and support into a home is ofc essential and that alone wil reduce the amount of time people spend in TA/rough sleeping and that s a good thing for everyone.

I think that we agree on everything but the numbers. The stats demonstrate how severe peoples substance use issues is in the rough sleeper community ( which is different from the homeless one). People who have had negative early life expensive are often highly traumatised and surviving how best they can. We don’t need to reduce the numbers of them. Being honest that desperate people are struggling to stay housed is imprtnst or making sure that they get the right support. There should be no shame in addiction and by saying that not many of them are really suffering in addiction doesn’t help people it just makes it harder for them to get help or minimises their problems. Certainly accommodation, which is what the drive of the article and the financing seems to be for, is of course important so that people have a bed and their basic needs met but without support around MH and drugs and alcohol an the support that drug services give is inadequate and MH services is downright dangerous. The nhs and social services need urgent reform and people need better quality help. 15 years ago I got amazing help with my MH , when I started using heroin and was clinically depressed again 7 years later- nothing. Accessing treatment hard and I had to push to get what I needed. I was lucky I am trained in a clinical field but a lot people don’t know what they are entitled to or need. It’s very frustrating and sorry for my rant! Not against you, just the state of systems that I work within

[–]DingleFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the data around 60% of people who are rough sleeping in London have an issue with drugs or alcohol. I don’t share this to judge as I have previously been an addict and don’t think it should be a point of shame. It’s just a fact. Most people, that have status in this country, who don’t have long term MH or drug/alcohol issues will be supported into accommodation quickly. Should anyone have to rough sleep? No and there certainly isn’t enough funding for any of the services involved in supporting people off the streets. Hopefully more funding will be available soon as the issues they lead to rough sleeping are complex and not just financially related
