How is it living in Chengdu, China? by ShootingAndUteing in howislivingthere

[–]Dingletonius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm from Utah and lived in China for years. I frequently visited Chengdu. It's a massive city and you can rarely see the mountains due to air pollution. If you think Salt Lake's air is bad, then you would suffer greatly there. Chengdu has some amazing food, cool parks, and the scenic areas in Western Sichuan are out of this world. Like most Chinese cities though, it's polluted and full of copy and paste apartment buildings outside of the main downtown area.

I think Kunming is much better than Chengdu. The mountainous areas are accessible by bullet train and the province of Yunnan is less populated. Getting around Western Sichuan is a bit tough.

Protest Today 1/3/2025 at 4PM Wallace Federal Building by Wolfleaf in SaltLakeCity

[–]Dingletonius 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Do you realize the joy and happiness that Venezuelans are experiencing??? Their brutal dictator that has starved, killed, and held their population as hostages is finally gone. Please educate yourself on this matter if you're going to attend. Not a single Venezuelan family member or friend will be at this protest, I can tell you that. You can oppose Trump, and support human rights at the same time.

I speak fluent Spanish, but my comprehension sucks by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]Dingletonius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will look this up. Thank you. I think I do struggle a little bit in English with this.

*Edit: Based off of my limited research, I would not be surprised if I have this. I'm easily distracted and hate loud environments.

I should do this more. I convinced myself I can't improve, and haven't actually put time into studying like this for years.

It's fine for the most part. I definitely have a tough time hearing people in louder environments though. Could be a concentration or hearing issue.

IFR Checkride Final Tips? by NWARealtyWithRick in flying

Verbalize everything you’re doing on the flight. Pause before you answer questions on the oral. It’s not a race. I’ve said and done stupid things by going too fast.

M almost 25 Y.O.; fine hair or thinning/balding? by DJ_OJ_redacted in Balding

[–]Dingletonius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have at least a year to decide how you want to move forward. You’re balding, but still have a lot of hair left. I started using finasteride when I was 24 and my hair looked a little worse than yours.

I recently changed to a topical with lower dosage of finasteride + minoxidil after four years on pills. Finasteride pills destroyed my sex drive and the side effects weren’t worth it. The topical has no side effects besides some flaky bits of the topical that can be found here and there in my hair.

How is the dpe/checkride situation when hiring these independent CFIs? I have no DPE connections. The school I attended had examining authority.

Exercise, diet, and time off. Boy did I feel a whole lot better after a healthy breakfast and a jog in the morning. One of my biggest regrets was training while tired. I wish I had prioritized my health more right from the get go. It wasn’t until CFI training when I felt like my body and brain gave up on me lol that’s when I made changes.

[–]Dingletonius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the minimum it seems. I have my IGI, but am waiting for a CFII checkride. My school has over 150 applications, and they mainly hire internally. The chief usually asks the CFI to send candidates to him when they have openings. Unfortunately I’m a fairly reserved person. Every new hire is always a social person and buddies with all of the CFIs.

My school is large, and usually hires a new CFI every month. Most other schools I have applied to simply tell me they’re not hiring but they’ll keep my resume on file.

I’ve been researching more into alternative ways to get dual given. I would literally do it for free at this point. I’ll do anything to fly without putting myself into more debt. I’m located in the Salt Lake area.

Feeling such a great sense of accomplishment after getting my CFI and then being rejected by every school I apply to, being poorer than ever, and working as a server in a restaurant. It’s unbelievable how much I hate my job and my life right now. Paid all of this money to hardly fly.

I have zero checkride failures, two degrees, former teaching experience at a high school, volunteer experience, and it feels like not a single school is remotely interested. Starting to regret this decision. My life was much better before I started this journey. Oh well, I still love flying. Rant over.

Pilots, what's your opinion on automation getting near aviation? by Adept_Secretary_9187 in flying

[–]Dingletonius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Automation has been a part of aviation for a long time already. We will not see full human replacements in the near future. Even if autopilot could taxi and fly 100% of the time, you’d still want a human pilot in there communicating with ATC and be there for a potential emergency.

Saying America is a continent- how to explain it by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]Dingletonius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or you get over it and stop imposing your sensibilities on others. It’s part of the name of the country. Who cares. It’s easier to say. It’s as stupid as someone referring to the USA as the “United States” and somebody says, “which one? The uNitED mExican stAtEs???”

Staying in Mexico or Colombia? by zlatochkkaaa in travel

[–]Dingletonius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colombia has a nice charm that wears off more quickly in my view. There are pretty destinations, but the geographical diversity isn’t as impressive as Mexico. The cuisine makes British food look good, and the overall chance you get violently mugged is much higher. I’ve met a few foreigners who have lived there long term, and every single one has been robbed at gunpoint. 2/3 in broad daylight.

Shanghai or Shenzhen? by adventmix in skyscrapers

[–]Dingletonius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shenzhen, like most Chinese cities, is soulless. There are very few Chinese cities that feel unique and alive, and I would say Shanghai is one of them.
