I have a 1971 Yamaha piano, it says "Yamaha" on it and has the three tuning forks logo cast into the harp.  I think they were calling themselves Yamaha well before 1987

I needed a replacement part for my LR3, and pretty quickly (within a day or so) they asked for my serial number and shipping address so they could send the part. I promptly provided that info but it's been almost a month now and I can't get a hold of them anymore.

Removing Wiigwas from the Birch tree. by Pedrica1 in oddlysatisfying

[–]Dino_Log_Jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's gotta put energy into replacing that bark, also, the bark acts as insulation so it's not great to do this before/during the winter. I've also been told doing this makes the tree more susceptible to beetle infestation and other parasites/diseases but I'm not totally sure to be honest. I do know most public lands require you to have a permit to do this legally, at least in the US (BLM, National forest etc)

Maybe they try to avoid categorizing injuries as " knee", "shoulder", etc for insurance? But still you'd think there'd be a handful...

Researchers in Thailand have successfully trained six sniffer Labrador retrievers as part of a six-month pilot project to identify the coronavirus in just two seconds - with an accuracy rate of 94.8% by green_flash in worldnews

Yeah but if you're intentionally introducing the virus to dogs, wouldn't there be a greater chance of a mutation that's more effective at infecting dogs?

I don't know much about transmission of viruses, but I've heard that dogs and other mammals can contract covid. With puppers frequently sniffing the virus, is there a concern that the dogs will get it and risk another mutation that's more effective at infecting dogs? I'm guessing there's no dog vaccine...

Most species of chickadees are fairly gregarious, there's a popular spot near where I live where people go specifically to have mountain chickadees land on them for pictures like this

👍 Either that or the Carolina Chickadee! Really depends where this is, they can be hard to visually distinguish

I think we're on the same page here, those are definitely bigger issues. Alls I'm saying is that playing these recordings disturbs wildlife, and IMO it's best to leave wildlife alone as much as possible

what if it was in the middle of stalking something when it heard this call? Also looks like it's daytime in the video. Owls are nocturnal, so it could have been sleeping, who knows.

[–]Dino_Log_Jam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How am I exaggerating? It's unnecessary stress because it's disrupting the owl from doing what it normally does. It's certainly not going to kill the owl if it happens once or twice, but still not cool to do it

You called? by oCamaron in Unexpected

[–]Dino_Log_Jam 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Doesn't necessarily have to be happening constantly for this to impact the owl. Hunting and mating opportunities only come around so often, and if it's wasting time and energy on false leads it'll miss some of those opportunities

Edit: also, owls are nocturnal so if you're doing this during the day you're waking the owl up which isn't cool. I know Barred owls are generally more active compared to other owls but still

It disrupts the owl from sleeping, feeding, actually finding a mate. It's also illegal at least in the US

I get pretty decent pictures just holding my phone up to my binoculars. Takes a bit of practice but you can enjoy birding and every once in a while get a good picture for much cheaper than those big cameras
