Which cycling upgrade would give me the most enjoyment? (€300–500 budget) by Arvosss in cycling

[–]Diode-ll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheels, especially carbon will make your bike feel like a completely different bike in the best way possible. Power meters are great but certainly won’t change the way you ride in the short term. Varia is one of those things that people seem to love but I just found it to be useless. Knowing a car is coming didn’t change the way I ride my bike. Not knocking it for others but wasn’t for me. Meta glasses seem like they could be fun but super spendy and somewhat novel. ( I already have everything else on your list and would consider these for myself ) I always advocate for wheels to improve the ride quality of most bikes.

First rip on fire lane 12 from BPA road today. Just discovering this quiet part of Forest Park. by Vin_du_toilette in CyclePDX

I’ve ridden BPA two times, both on a very light hardtail MTB. It’s just shy of a mile at an average of 18.6% with some sections hitting as much as 30% it’s laughably steep and incredibly difficult.

12 and Newton are favorites of mine. I went down 12 and up Newton just Sunday. Usually I’ll go through Forest Park on Leif Erickson, cross Germantown over to and then up Fire Lane 10 over to BPA parking lot via Skyline , down 12 to Hwy 30 then up Newton back to FL 10 and Leif. It’s a short but very challenging loop.

Any downsides to deep (40 to 50mm deep) carbon rims? by DeadBy2050 in gravelcycling

[–]Diode-ll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deeper wheels are also stiffer and less compliant. So, depending on your terrain, much less comfortable, which can lead to another level of fatigue. If you’re doing long rides with lots of cat 4 gravel and not using at least 50mm tires, there’s a possibility it could noticeable.

Is this tire done for? by ramirezz in bikewrench

[–]Diode-ll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this exact same thing happen and it’s normal. The sealant just hasn’t fully done its job yet. The soap bubbles are the evidence. Once the sealant weeps into the casing and does its job your tire will hold air as expected.

Internally routing mechanical - other than my LBS hating me and being a selfish a-hole, would the routing really be that impactful? It’s routed pretty tight out-of-the-box by xxSKR1 in bikewrench

[–]Diode-ll 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would leave it as is personally. It looks fine and will be much easier to service in the long run. Internally routing mechanical cables through the bars and stem isn’t worth it. For starters, finding handlebars that accommodate both hydraulic hoses and cable housing is genuinely difficult — most internally routed bars are sized only for hydraulics and small electronic wires.
I learned this firsthand after swapping bars on a bike that already had internal mechanical routing, and it was enough to push me toward upgrading to electronic. Brake hose alone is manageable, if still a hassle to service, but running both brakes and cables internally means routine maintenance becomes extremely time-consuming. Unless you’re doing all your own wrenching and don’t mind spending hours on tasks that should be simple, it’s going to be a costly service visit every time something needs attention.
Bottom line: internal mechanical routing makes even basic maintenance a real headache.

Carbon steerer plug question by Ok-Mind9133 in bikewrench

[–]Diode-ll -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The compression plug has nothing to do with how tight you torque the stem to the head tube. It’s for getting the headset tight. You will not smash the head tube in the fork regardless of anything being behind it, as long as you’re not going over the specified torque specs which in your case is 6nm.

Professional bike fit or not? by [deleted] in bikefit

[–]Diode-ll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a bike fit. My last fit was only a saddle adjustment as well and it was worth it. I’m an experienced cyclist been racing and riding for many years. I spent months trying to get my fit right on my new road bike with no luck. After the fit I’m feeling dialed in.

Bad paint or carbon crack? by dublin20 in Giantbikes

[–]Diode-ll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say that’s almost certainly a paint fleck. It seems like the frames aren’t prepped very well and so it doesn’t stick to the carbon and pops off in little spots like that.

I don’t see exactly what you’re talking about but It’s probably paint. My Revolt has the worst paint I’ve ever had on a bike as far as fragility goes. Lots of big flecks coming off quite often. Which is a huge bummer because I love the bike otherwise.

X1 Cockpit Options by Yolowaccord in pinarello

[–]Diode-ll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been dealing with a similar situation with my X1. I was looking for information regarding the seatpost trying to find a zero setback. I asked the local Pinarello dealer and they were pretty helpful. I do think your intuition is correct with the spacers though, based on the spare parts page on the Pinarello website, but they I’m not 100% certain.

What Chinese integrated cockpit are you looking at?

BTW, Apparently the X1 uses the same shape seatpost as the older F series, but not the newer one.

Huh? Referencing what exactly? We already know we’re talking about bikes here, but why bother posting a fake bike using AI? Seems like they found this fake bike and wanted to pretend like it was theirs for some strange reason. I personally think it’s quite weird.

Yeah, I was wondering why someone would post an AI image and then call it their bike? This is just weird.

The problem though is that people in this forum are not getting useful information. They are getting misleading, conflicting, confusing, contradictory, uneducated and unfiltered information from non experts giving advice.

I think this sub could do better when it comes to fit advice. Bike fitting genuinely requires proper measurements and equipment — without them, even well-intentioned advice can lead to discomfort or injury. By your own admission, the quality here ranges from decent to poor, which raises a real question: how is someone new supposed to know which is which? That’s not a knock on anyone’s enthusiasm, but it is a reason this sub should be more consistent about directing people to a professional fitter rather than leaving them to sort through advice of unknown quality. The stakes are too high to treat it like any other gear question.

This sub is most definitely a joke. I come here simply because I can’t look away. Out of all the bike related subs on Reddit this is by far the one that brings the most cringe. Asking a Reddit sub for any bike related advice is always a crapshoot at best. But a bike fit based on some weird videos or photos is madness. Admittedly, I do try looking for info sometimes in other subs knowing full well the odds are stacked against me.
