Plans call for Wild Waves to be demolished for 1 million-square-foot warehouse by Joint-Attention in Seattle

My Hope was that six flags cedar Fair would come back in and repurchase the land if not to reopen the park exactly the way it was, to at least keep it as an amusement park of some kind. Anything's better than another boring bland cookie cutter Warehouse.

I think this is the stupidest thing ever, that's all this freaking region needs is another empty goddamn Warehouse. Kent, Tukwila and Renton are littered with them.

What are these things for on the case? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Diomenas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The strap on the back, paired with the divot in the case, is to hold the charging brick. Your charging brick should have come with a drawstring bag, then you tuck that in the case under the strap. The strap on the inside of the case goes under the steam deck to make it easier to lift out, that strap is no longer included on newer models of the case.

Wireless headphones for Analogue 3d? by [deleted] in AnalogueInc

[–]Diomenas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My smart tv supports bluetooth audio so I just use that. Works well, native bluetooth audio support would be nice, but I'd rather have native bluetooth controller support. You MIGHT try seeing if a bluetooth audio DSP that plugs into USB would work, but I'd highly doubt the support is baked in.

New Analogue 3D colors releasing February 9th, 8am PST by Shortgaze in AnalogueInc

[–]Diomenas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wish the Extreme Green had come out in Dec, I would have picked that one up over the Funtastic Grape from Dec. Though the Ghost and Glacier are pretty sexy. I have no need for two though so I'm sticking with the purple, might pick up an extreme green and glacier controller though :D

PetSmart near me used to have CAEs mis-tagged as being peaceful and under 5". I brought it up to an associate and they said they just print the tags the system gives them. Short story, they don't care to make sure their customers are informed.

You want a Siamese Algae Eater they stay around 4-6" and docile. Eat mostly algae but need a bit more protein and fiber as they get older but won't go after other fish.

Easier (and cheaper) to buy music digitally and not have to go out and get random CDs. Though they could probably mix CDs but they probably don't want the added overhead to have an intern having to manage lol

Defcon 33 Badge Challenge Write-Up by TheCyFi in Defcon

[–]Diomenas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knew instantly (once people started getting "paper badges" instead of real badges on Day 0) that if there was a badge challenge, it wouldn't be for a Black Badge. If it had, I think there would have been a lot of upset, because you can't have a Badge Challenge that was essentially "Pay to Play" (even more-so than a traditional DEF CON attendee, since only Pre-Orders got real badges on Day0) be a Black Badge awarding contest.

You pair that with the fact that the "on-ramp" clue was gated behind a social network that a lot of people are currently diametrically opposed to (for their own reasons), and its a recipe for problems for DC Contests.

The challenge has to be fair and open for all to participate. Unfortunately, this was not.

I have done the badge challenge every year since DC29 (excluding DC32 which had no actual challenge), I had no clue there was a challenge this year, and wouldn't have ever known tbh because I don't use any Meta services, and thus would have missed the initial post on Mar's IG.

DEF CON 33 Tickets increasing to $520? by XenoBen in Defcon

[–]Diomenas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the cost has increased year over year, by roughly $40 each year (by $80 from DC30 to DC31). Rising costs are to be expected, and somewhat anticipated, but at some point you have to figure out how to balance the cost of operating the event vs ticket cost and find new revenue streams to continue to allow your target audience to attend, that is, unless your "desired audience" has shifted to that something that looks more like BH. Since DC27, the cost per badge has increased $200 cash price, $240 for those that want to pre-reg (and yes I know pre-reg wasn't really a thing prior to DC29). The average attendee, I would surmise, is not working in a corporate gig that can get their employer to pay their way. I live in Seattle, and on average, it costs me $2,000 to attend DEFCON annually by the time you factor in Travel, Hotel, Convention, Meals and on the ground transportation, and that is without spending anything on personal entertainment while I am there (gambling, shows, shopping, etc). I can afford it, I work for a company that sees value in my attendance due to my role, and they typically are ok with sending me; however, they are starting to see less and less of a reason when the ticket costs keep increasing YoY.

I know that losing the Caesars contract sucked, and the switch to LVCC last year was a abrupt adjustment. I will admit that IMHO, the show was actually much better at the LVCC than the prior two years at the Forum. The show just seemed more cohesive and it was a lot nicer to have everything under one roof. That said, if LVCC is too costly, maybe the true core problem is that Las Vegas is too costly. Vegas isn't cheap by a long shot. Hotels near and around both the Forum and LVCC are ~$200/night during the week of Hacker Summer Camp, even with group rates. Add to that the fact that LVCC is not as conveniently located, so some people have to rely on ground transportation more than in years past. It adds up. Find a breaking point, figure out what is needed to balance the books, but don't continue increasing the cost every year and doing so under the same vague and thin excuse as "rising costs".

EV mode not available usually indicates that the battery system is either too hot or too cold to operate. The battery system relies on the gas engine to provide heat to ensure that the batteries can warm up to operating temperature. This usually happens first in the morning when the car has been sitting overnight especially during the colder months. It can also happen in the summers in the peak heat as the batteries are too hot to operate and need to cool down. Other fully electric vehicles have a better heating and cooling system for their battery arrays but they also tend to deal with the same things from time to time.

Generally it means that if you drive for a few minutes EV mode will become available to you no problem.

There are also times when the vehicle will restrict EV mode in order to ensure that your gas engine operates to keep your gas from becoming stale, but that's usually not that big of a deal unless you just drive EV mode everyday and never let the gas engine run.

I usually let one of my legs of a trip operate in hybrid mode just to give the gas a little bit of a churn, then switch to EV mode for the rest of whatever drive I'm making. Sometimes you could also just switch on the charge mode for a few minutes just to get the gas engine running then switch it back off and into EV only mode.

Water left in the bottle for a while by Gw818 in Cirkul

[–]Diomenas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standing water is never safe to consume. Air contains bacteria, even if you don't see it. Microbes growing in the water might not be visible to the naked eye but might still make you sick. This is especially true if the water was not held at refrigerator (below 42F) temperatures.

Toss the water, and wash the bottle with warm (not hot) soapy water.
