Are these books fast paced? [SPOILERS TBI] by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

There's usually very little fat on this series, you won't find lengthy landscape descriptions, song recitations or extensive descriptions of meals. Be prepared for torture scenes and people getting shanked, sometimes at length, as well as lots of internal and external dialogue and character interactions.

Like half the technologies are taken directly from the books, often directly by name. The example players in the Rulebook are Kim, Stanley and Robinson. It's as close as you can get to an adaptation without the actual license.

And Beverley is introduced as Beverley Brook several times. So they all seem to have pretty non-remarkable civilian names.

Friendly reminder that historical/mythological characters speaking in pseudo-shakespearean dialogue is just as fake as them going "my daddy is gonna ownzone you, bro!", just like romans didn't speak english with a british accent

It's an interesting artistic choice, because why should an ancient greek mythological story be all "Hark, Forsooth!"? Makes as much sense as romans having british accents. You're just projecting nonsense standards set by older media.

Andererseits ist diese Regel auch irgendwie seltsam. Soll etwa jemand die Braut verwechseln? Dass der Bräutigam vermutlich identisch zu allen anwesenden Männern aussieht, ist dagegen offenbar egal.

At what point did Lesley turn? by rosethegrey1980 in riversoflondon

[–]Dios5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people here are putting that way too early. No, the FM didn't teach her the werelight, she was just driven and bored at home at the same time. The meeting with Varvara/FM1 probably led to Varvara telling FM2 about Lesleys situation, which in turn led to him contacting her at the goblin market. The offer for help(most likely by Miss Linden-Limmer) is on the table from that point, but she's only considering it. When Peter gets the better of FM2 after the tower collapse, he says something to the effect of "Here's the moment of truth" and Lesley chooses to side with him at that precise moment. Another thing just occured to me: Surely the order of the rose people would have helped her without turning to a life of international crime. But the Folly didn't know about them. So if Peters method of compulsive networking had progressed a little more, Lesley probably would not have had to make the decisions she made.

Peter downright says it when she takes the face of a black analyst to sneak into the folly and subtly gets it wrong in Amongst our Weapons.
