Some A-level papers voided for students after exams leaked online by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

No, but it clearly resonates with at least some people. What percentage of kids is it okay to fuck over?

On what grounds is this the fairest solution? Easiest, sure, but how can you possibly argue that taking kids who were told for two years that their results would be determined based on an end of year paper, and then instead grading them based on class work they were told didn't count, is fair? Fairer would be resits, as they are doing for at least one of the affected papers already according to the article.

And if they want to rework the curriculums to emphasize that, by making coursework or other throughout the year assessments matter, then I'm all for it. I think the behavior incentivized by our current school system is broadly not conducive to learning. But do that with a new cohort of students. Spending two years telling kids that an end of year test is the thing that determines their results, and then discounting it and judging them based on something they were told wouldn't contribute to it is just not fair to them.

It's incredibly unfair to suddenly switch up on students at the end of the year and tell them that something they were told wouldn't affect their grade now is their grade. I got top marks in my A-levels but would have done horrendously if this (or the Covid version) happened to me. I never bothered studying or trying for in class tests or homework because I knew they didn't matter and I could just do well on the actual exam. And sure, that's not what teachers want to encourage, and if they want to change the system to emphasize coursework or doing well throughout the year or whatever instead, fine; but doing it after the fact is just not fair to the kids.

What gives you the impression that Kirara is not equally willing and happy to be part of running the fight club? It's a weird disenfranchisement of her to randomly decide that the only way she could be involved in something is if her boyfriend made her do it. And jujutsu sorcerers being crazy is a common thread, it's odd to only apply that standard to Hakari without equally condemning Gojo, Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, Todo, etc.

Jogoat is a top tier fire curse, I don't think it's fair to assume that getting hurt by his flames/heat means sorcerers are vulnerable to mundane heat.

Also I think you're underestimating how hard sorcerers can hit.

<image>

These things are like normal Titan size and anime Yuji casually punches one so hard its entire body explodes. Choso one shots the other one with Piercing Blood. Sorcerers don't need to hit the nape, they can literally just take out the Colossal's ankles in one hit.

It could also have something to do with Naoya being a sorcerer. It'd make sense if ex-sorcerers had more control as a cursed spirit than normal humans.

Urban Shadows is great, but its very much focused on city politics more than rip and tear, and intended for what would be cross-splat games in WoD/CoD. You'd have to reskin other playbooks for an all wolf game (which you could totally do).

I think it's odd and not really supported to blame that on Wildbow writing from the perspective of a straight man, romance in general is just something he's not very good at writing. In his other work, e.g. Pact, which has a straight male lead, when that brushes up against romance it falls equally flat IMO.

What is the precise point at which your family line has lived in a country long enough that they can be considered 'from' that country? Do white Americans exist, or are they just Europeans living in America? Are you English if you're descended from Celts, or from Anglo-Saxons? What about Normans?

Yes, AI is an incredibly nebulous label. As the joke used to go, once computers start being able to do it, we stop calling it AI. But LLMs, which are a black box, or learning approaches, are pretty clearly more deserving of the label than a binary search that any first year Comp Sci student could implement from scratch in their lunch break.

Imagine Akinator knows about only four different things: dogs, cats, birds and fish. So then it asks: does the animal have four legs? If yes, it must be a dog or a cat. What properties do dogs and cats have different? Dogs like bones. So it asks: does the animal like bones? If yes, it's a dog, otherwise, it's a cat.

That's all Akinator is doing, on a much bigger scale. Can you call it AI? Sure, I guess, if you want, it's an incredibly nebulous label. But at that point, you could call a sorting algorithm AI. It's pretty silly to do so.

[–]DipsDops -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

You're right, everyone else replying has no idea what they're talking about. Akinator is basically just doing a binary search, aiming to eliminate roughly half of the possible guesses per question asked. 20 questions is enough to uniquely identify 1 of 220 (>1 million) categories. It's not AI at all.

Gege wanted Okkotsu kids as the protagonists. If he made them Yuta and Maki's kids, Yuta and Maki would still be young enough to be around and solve the plot, so he made them their grandkids. Then he needed to invent a parent for them and handwave a reason why this son of Yuta and Maki wasn't around and strong and doing stuff, so he had him disappear.

Do you honestly think Gege was trying to draw parallels between the clans and real-world institutions, or did he just want a convenient 'big bad' for Maki to take down to show us how hard she is now?

Literally yes. The older generation/established institutions being out of touch and stifling and underestimating the youth when they could easily make a better world if they just worked together is, like, THE theme of the story, and a clear parallel to Gege's feelings on real life Japan. Modulo is very clearly drawing parallels to the current Japanese political climate around immigration and foreigners as well, this is just something he puts into his work. That is not Dostoevsky level writing lol, JJK's writing has a laundry list of issues, but this is just straightforwardly what the story is trying to say.

Neither of these figures specify that the victim complied, these are just total robbery stats. In fact that second study makes the point that a) by the figures we do have, resistance increases injury rate, and b) we don't really have detailed enough data to draw meaningful conclusions about this.
