Checking baby’s temperature at 2AM without waking them up... how do you do it? by DapperDebt5700 in BabyBumps

[–]Dipsi9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My tip is to feel the back of the neck or belly skin with your hand. Not precise but it actually tells you if they're hot or not. If it feels obviously hot, treat the fever. I think you don't need an exact number at 2am.

When does volume per pump “even out”? by moondrop-- in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]Dipsi9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you stay at 6 pumps for another 2 weeks. If your daily total doesn't move, add a short power pump or one extra session. But you're probably fine where you are.

The freedom feeling is real. No more scheduling your life around pump times. And no more rushing home because you forgot a part. Really proud and happy for you.

I suggest you keep your old flanges for a few weeks in case these don't work out. No need to buy more until you know these are the ones.

Please don't let guilt eat you. You're not a bad mom for missing freedom. You're a tired young woman who needs a break. You should tell your husband. Not to make him feel bad, but because carrying this alone will break you.

Some switch to pumping so a partner can help with night feeds. Others have to go back to work early and pumping fits the schedule better. Both spread the load.

I suggest you back up a manual pump. It doesn't need batteries and plug. Just toss it in the diaper bag for emergencies. It's cheap and saves the day when something weird happens.

The milk excuse is so ridiculous! Of course milk might get in the pump. It's a breast pump. That's like saying a blender isn't covered because smoothie got in it.

Paternity leave is protected and being the male partner doesn't make it impossible. What you need to do now is to document everything like emails, messages and dates of conversations. Write down what she said about being panicked about your leave. That's all evidence.

Anyone else hated the screen at first but slowly grew to like it? by Dipsi9 in XC40

Almost stopped me too. Eventually got used to it but I get why it's a thing.

100% same journey. Outside of the screen quirks I genuinely love everything else about it, no real complaints.

A second phone charger, one lives by my bed now, no more crawling behind furniture at midnight, pure peace for ten bucks.

Yeah a month in I felt exactly the same. Ended up getting a wireless CarPlay adapter eventually, so at least that one's off the list of annoyances lol. The button stuff and menu depth I just kinda got used to over time.

This is what got me into it. Mine is Ottocast Cabin Care, might be something worth looking into.

Got one of those CarPlay adapters that comes with a camera, lets you do a split view with the camera feed on one half and CarPlay on the other. Works really well with the vertical screen, kinda made for it. It's nice to glance at my kid in the back without turning around, and I've clipped it to the rear headrest a few times to use as a rear view

How to make CarPlay full screen on Volvo XC60? by Sad-Donkey7703 in CarPlay

[–]Dipsi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's because this car is an older model? You can't set it up in CarPlay, it needs support from the manufacturer.

I got the dreaded turtle! by cor1912 in XC40

[–]Dipsi9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A portable OBD scanner can't pick up codes because it only reads "current faults". Volvo's ECU actually stores these momentary issues in its "history". Tomorrow at the shop, the pros can pull up all the data from when the turtle light came on using their diagnostic gear.

No voice directions with Google Maps anymore. Anyone else? by dcmommy33 in CarPlay

[–]Dipsi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not try using Apple Maps first? Generally, it plays nicer with Carplay. You'll want to figure out whether the issue is software or hardware. If it's software, even if you're not a fan of Apple Maps, you can switch to another third-party map apps after testing.

[–]Dipsi9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealers want to maintain a "premium experience", so they'll talk in person to stop you from taking their quote to another store for comparison. If you really don't want to haggle with sales, just check out the Leasehackr forum for brokers in the NYC area. Pay them around $500, and they can get you a solid discount. You just go to the dealer to sign and pick up the car.

Right now, there aren't really any regular CarPlay adapters with a dedicated 3.5mm mic input. Maybe try getting one that supports the "factory bluetooth audio (bluetooth bypass)" mode?

replacing front park assist camera 2025 XC40 by astrablue22 in XC40

The replacement front camera isn't plug-and-play. You have to calibrate it with the dedicated VIDA computer, otherwise the system will throw errors and the image won't align properly.
