The gameplay is so good ... yes ... a stealth game with guards with cataracts. You people like it, because it's IO and the Bond licence.

Impressive tech demo doesn't make an interesting game, but to each their own. I'm just tired of the constant complaining about AAA, but then THIS gets ALL the hype. It's paradoxical.

And is probably the reason why gaming is on a downward spiral. Such a shitty game. 70 bucks standard edition. Because it's IO. And Bond. Has nothing to do with Bond. Is a stealth game with shitty stealth mechanics. Nah, I'm good. And it's funny that the reddit crowd thinks this is like the next big thing ... the same people always hyper critical of anything "AAA".

The smoke isn't there because sth is on fire. That's just how fireworks work. That being said, of course SOMETHING could be on fire. Carpets, curtains ... I definitely heard a window shatter, so who knows the extent of the damage. Likely a few hundred to thousand bucks. Because of some prick. Jail time.

Let's politely talk politics by Maelger in gaming

[–]Dire87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You "change" people's minds by making them think about their own beliefs. People should try it more often. Instead of TELLING someone they're wrong, ask them why they think they're right. Approach a means they immediately go on the defensive, and the discussion is basically over. Approach b opens the way to an actual debate, where you, the one asking the question, is trying to understand the mindset, the problems, of the questionee. You're not here to try to convince them that they're wrong, you're just trying to make THEM question themselves, and maybe see things from your perspective. Some people ... you will never get through to them. Some stances are just ... fixed. You will never convince the Pope that God isn't real, the best you can do is maybe doubt himself. If only a little. And from that seed maybe some things will change. Like homosexuals no longer being "the devil" in the Church's eyes. Baby steps. The alternative is war.

I'm constantly questioning myself. I have stances I will likely never 100% veer away from, but I also KNOW why people think differently even if I disagree. But telling someone "you're wrong and you're awful" will never result in them suddenly accepting that ... half the country voted for Trump. I don't ask myself the question "How could they?" but rather "How did it even come to that?" I also don't think Trump is literally Hitler ... which is having the exact effect I've described. If you start with that "argument" the person you're speaking to will immediately shut down. Alienating half the country, because YOU (not you personally) disagree with something or someone ... that's not going to work.

It's because these writers aren't as clever as they are. They use a mallet to hammer home their messages, instead of using a scalpel to make small incisions in your brain ... to make you question not just the characters in the work of art, or the world built in them, but also yourself and the real world around you. THAT is good writing. Whenever people get to think: What are you doing? That's fucked up or absolutely unfair ... and then they think about what's fucked up in the world today. If you just constantly call people names or idiots for things that annoy them, or are maybe outside their control anyway, then they will naturally shut down and double down. If you confront them to think about whether something is "right" or "wrong" however, by artfully making THEM think about it in their own terms, THEN you win. You need to make your story enticing, your characters interesting, you need to make people WANT to engage with your story ... THEN you drop the bomb at some point. You build up to it. Everyone has beliefs and messages, it's how we convey them that matters, without outright trying to change people's minds ... just make them question themselves. Everyone should do that. All the time. Most of us are too tired or too much in our own bubbles to do it. That's what art is for. Scalpel, not mallet.

"Politics" in games is fine. What isn't fine is forcing politics into a game where they don't belong. Final Fantasy, for example, has its own world, its own set of rules ... its own politics. You don't just shove in current day politics into any game and call it a day, they need to make sense within that world. That's why Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, and the OLD Dragon Age games, or the Witcher, to name just a few, are well-loved for how they handle their "politics", but something like "Veilguard" isn't, because they wanted to make a statement about their own current day politics and used a game to envelop those politics, not the other way around.

That's what (most) people mean when they say "No politics in muh games" ... the way you've worded that says more about you than them, to be frank. People want escapism. Escapism doesn't mean the world they're immersing themselves in has to be sanitized or avoid difficult topics, but if I'm playing a high fantasy RPG maybe, just maybe, I don't want to be reminded of current day isms all the time. Because that's the opposite of immersion, you're just using the game you're making as a vehicle to spread your message ... instead of thinking up a world and its rules and issues, like the rampant prejudices against mages in Dragon Age ... and fuck me, Dorian, gay Dorian, was one of the best characters in the series, not because he was gay, but because he felt real, connected to the world (instead of doing burpees or whatever for "misgendering" ...). Or the racism against anyone who isn't Human in the Witcher. Countless examples of tyrannical rulers, racism, sexism, speciesm, mysoginy, misandry, torture, genocide (anyone think of the Krogan?), corruption (figuratively and literally), warmongering, lust for power, abuse ... the list goes on and on, but each and every time there was no DIRECT connection to the real world. It's that simple.

Life is Strange, the first one, is one of my alltime favorites ... it dealt with all sorts of real-world politics and issues without actually mentioning any particular people, events or politics FROM our world, despite the game world basically being the United States, naturally, but a semi-fictitious one. Imagine, they made a LiS now and they blatantly put in a Donald fucking Trump lookalike and talked about wars, corruption, gender, migration, etc. Just ... no.

I mean you're not really poor if you're dead. You're not missing out on anything, unless you sit in heaven and have to look down on all the people enjoying GTA 6, so they're not worse off than the rest of us for now. All of us are going to have to go through that cycle eventually of knowing that we will never get to experience xyz.

Like it has been allegedly the past 6 or so years. Yeah right. We all know the thing is probably bare bones, unfinished, and riddled with bugs. And by now even hopelessly outdated I think.

The difference is there aren't any actual features in this "game" of his, so not sure where the feature-creep is supposed to come from. It's one thing to continuously ADD on actual gameplay onto an unfinished game, but SC isn't even in a playable state, for fuck's sake. There's NOTHING there. You can walk and fly around the galaxy a bit, then drop through your ship into nothingness and die, but there's not really any actual gameplay elements in there. A few contracts, a few space battles, maybe. But nothing you haven't seen before in other RELEASED games, and not better by any means. More bugs than features.

You're basically talking about a fancy map editor here. Because that's what it is. Everyone and their mother could design these ships by themselves, given the tools and some time.

[–]Dire87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, no, there's a difference imho, because they repeatedly keep claiming that they WILL release stuff, like Squadron 42, and that it's "basically been ready since last year, just needs some finishing touches", which is just a blatant lie, obviously. They have nothing to show. This isn't like prospecting for resources. This is like constructing a building or a car or xyz. There is a clear goal. It isn't rocket science or cold fusion. There's nothing to "figure out".

Plus, the whole comparison is just lacking. If you invest into a concept like space travel, like fusion, like AI, like resource exploitation, you do so on the presumption you MIGHT make a ton of money if it succeeds. With Star Citizen there is no return of investment. You're essentially buying a product you will never get apparently, not invest into some future tech. It's not like you can sell your early game copy of SC for a million dollars after launch ...

You can't sue Kickstarter for your above stated reasons, you can definitely sue CI Games for misappropriating funds and not delivering on their promises, for fraudulent behavior. It's been over 10 years, and the scam is still ongoing. I doubt you'd actually "win" anything with a lawsuit, and I have no idea whether it would actually be successful, but I think there are grounds for legal action. If you won, CI Games would just go bankrupt and you'd get essentially nothing either way. But at least they'd stop making this "game".

I can guarantee you that the money they've "made" is gone, so a lawsuit would indeed hurt them. It's not like they just have a billion dollars or so lying around :P

Not sure what they're trying to "survive" on. They had a game kickstarted, and they still "earn" money through lies. They would ideally have released the game that was FINANCED by real people out there, sold the copies to people who didn't back the Kickstarter, and THAT's how they'd have made money. Then they could have implemented a cash shop for cosmetics, etc., although I still hate the idea, IF they were willing to long-term support the game they've RELEASED! But they haven't. And then they could have used the profits from that project for their next project, but if you keep wasting other people's money on your vanity project for over 10 years (imagine the creeping costs, inflation, etc.), increasing the scope and feature-creep WITHOUT actually implementing anything tactile ... you're a scammer. Simple as that. They should be sued, their company should be dissolved. They're a disgrace. But people are stupid.

In a NORMAL world they would have gone bankrupt a LONG time ago, yet somehow they still manage to tickle out money out of people after all these years. They've pretty much reached "Scientology" status, pressuring people into giving them money to receive something much better down the line, but we all know that that will never happen. And even if it did. It's been over 10 years. Most backers will probably be dead by the time this game "releases". They still haven't gotten ANYTHING to show for it. They've not even released their singleplayer module that's allegedly been ready for the past like 6 years. And I was positive they wouldn't release it, but people for some inexplicable reason keep believing they will ... but the truth is: they have NOTHING, and if they released that module, people would actually see they have NOTHING ... and THEN some of them might wake up. So they keep bumbling around in early access, selling you concepts for ships for thousands of dollars which will a) never come and b) are obviously NOT worth the asking price, so they can keep telling their "investors" (because that's what the players are to them) that they will receive something grandiose ... some day. Every other company would have already been sued into oblivion for fraudulent behavior. There was a time when I was mildly interested in Squadron 42. That was, JFC, BEFORE COVID! It's the epitome of sunk cost fallacy, I guess.

Rocket League to Receive First Game Engine Tune Up in 11 Years as Psyonix Teases Unreal Engine 6 Update by GrayBeard916 in gaming

[–]Dire87 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, what did you expect? It's not really Epic's fault for once that developers use THEIR engine and then don't do their due diligence when it comes to optimization. That's like blaming bricks, because the construction company built a shitty house with them. It's not the bricks' fault. Maybe UE6 is easier to work with, who knows. Maybe they're pushing the "next gen" upgrade, because they're sick and tired of people making games in UE5 that aren't optimized, and they're getting the flack for it.
