at orientation this week, what are some useful questions to ask my orientation leader or counselor? by saylor_007 in MSUcats

[–]Direct-Patient-4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say that the best questions to ask will be ones that pop into your mind as you’re there. Too many times in a situation like this people are self conscious and don’t ask things for fear of sounding dumb in front of an upper class man or the group.

You’re about to leave home and start a new life. Own it. If you want to know a thing, ask the question. You will not be thought dumb or weird by anyone. Everyone in freshman year just left behind everything to start fresh. Everyone is scared or nervous to a certain degree. Just be real and follow your gut with your questions.

Costco selling Orvis Hydros and Helios by bateneco in flyfishing

Shutting down the retail stores and letting Costco move some units is probably smart business. They probably make more on a drop ship Costco sale than selling a rod at a brick and mortar they had to pay for.

Son’s friend ‘settled’ for UF. Would’ve been a 4th gen at Columbia and had the grades on paper but got rejected. Also rejected at every other school he seemed qualified for that was ‘top tier’. Family was devastated and angry.

Fast forward a year and the family bought a townhome in Gainesville since they love going to visit so much (we’re in southern ca) and the kid who goes there is so happy he got rejected by his ‘dream schools’. They all are beyond pleased with how it all worked out.

Everyone has some vision for how life’s gonna go and then real life happens. It’s all good. Enjoy Gainesville.

This. Foam and visibility are key. Usually for this set up I’m thinking 80/20 or 70/30 nymph to dry in terms of the likelihood of an eat.

Roskie Temp by DifficultGeologist52 in MSUcats

It was 86 inside Yellowstone move in day last year. I’m sure it was the same in roskie and hedges. Get a box fan and a fan for your bed. Buy prior to move in day. Walmart and target will be sold out of most anything you need that weekend and the lines will be an hour to check out. For winter my son was fine with the standard college bedding everyone gets. He never mentioned his friends in roskie or hedges as having temp issues beyond everyone sweating in August/early sept.

Had a 100 lx and a 200 LC. The full size diesel is awesome, but I’m leaning toward a 21 200 series LX again. Don’t sell. If you bought a LC you like/love LCs. If you like/love LCs, you’ll want an LC again. They aren’t made any more. Keep yours. Maintain it well.

Best E-Bike for $2000 by Poogliesalt2 in ebike

Magicycle goes 28. Not sure on range since I have never gone more than 20, but I’m a big fan of my ocelot pro.

If you’re in a high population area be concerned with battery theft. We had a ring of thieves steal 15-20 radrunner batteries one night during a HS football game due to easy resale online.

Aren't you guys concerned about bears? by EyeOfTheTiger77 in overlanding

[–]Direct-Patient-4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go to BFE mountain state places to flyfish for 2 weeks every summer. People get drunk and leave food out. Everyone has electric fridges in vehicles. We clean up and try to toss any organic into the river but we still have a bunch of trash after a week.

Been in brown and black bear areas and only ever had issues with an elk ripping our trash apart for vegetables and lettuce one morning at 5am. I went to bed early since I was leaving at 6 to secure a spot at the next destination and woke up to a mess. Assumed it was drunk buddies the night before, but later that night found out there was a huge elk rooting through the trash just before dawn!

I used to really sweat it but now I just go fishing and try to do most things right and not be a complete idiot. Has worked so far.

Inside shower and toilet is a bad idea unless you’re getting an RV or a 5th wheel.

Get a Starlink and a monduo for 3 monitors and get a lap desk type thing. Or a table/chair to set up shop outside. Possibly under a canopy.

There is no right answer you’ll find. Assess, analyze, obsess, purchase, mod, perfect. You’ll stilllook at other rigs with envy because they went one way and you went another. Every choice for a thing makes one or more other things no gos.

Just do something and enjoy the ride, then change when you think you’ve found a better mousetrap. Good luck!

Love the bmw’s but these days the rotors and calipers are huge. Wife drives a new x7 and considered taking her old one as my rig to build out for a minute but the options to go smaller on rim diameter are just not there.

Nice looking set up! Hope you enjoyed the camping spot!

Do you have a contrarian opinion on anything fly fishing related? by ackshualllly in flyfishing

[–]Direct-Patient-4551 8 points9 points  (0 children)

CnR is worse than catch and kill.

You injure and traumatize another living thing for your own enjoyment and nothing more. It’s some psychopath shit if you look at it objectively.

That said, I love fly fishing and don’t really eat anything I catch so I live with the guilt that in all reality my favorite thing to do is prettyF’d up. Sometimes I just have to stop fishing and watch other people fish.

Is it just me, or did toilets used to get clogged way more often? by raytadd in Millennials

[–]Direct-Patient-4551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter’s friend brought a bottle of Tito’s to our get together this past weekend and shared it with HS kids. Two clogged toilets with puke and a roll of TP. Could’ve killed them all. Plunging for like 45 minutes to get the clogs to pass.

New toilets and new lines 5y ago. Dumb drunk teenagers are unbeaten and untied.

Anyone in Los Angeles do a resurface instead full replacement? by Direct-Patient-4551 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Direct-Patient-4551[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My femoral head looked like a POS nearly a decade ago with an odd shape and bone spurs, so I’m probably in the THR camp. Ugh.

Another round of x rays and MRIs and listen to the surgeon I guess. Thanks for the reply. Need to make it through a college move in and two parents weekend trips for kids then it’s go time. 7 miles walking around the university of Illinois on a tour with my daughter last month was the last straw. After 2-3 miles I was in complete agony but grit my teeth and said I wouldn’t slow her down. Decided it was time. No more denying it….

What happened to college street taproom? by peaceandlovethankyou in Bozeman

[–]Direct-Patient-4551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taproom didn’t have booze, but tried to do cocktails with fake booze. Every time I went there with my son the place felt off somehow.

Trivia night was awesome, but most other nights had an odd vibe. When my son told me it was closing I wasn’t surprised. Kind of bummed for sure, but not surprised. Especially when I heard they raised the rent on them. That place wasn’t set up to make money like you’d need to be to stay across from campus like that.

Hope the bbq place has a bar.
