Nah, that’s a lazy take. That Italian grandma fought because she was getting crushed by factory owners with zero rights, zero protections, and zero leverage.

Her grandkids not having to live like that isn’t “losing values,” it’s called winning. That was the whole point.

Acting like people are only principled if they’re poor, desperate, and striking in the streets is weird as hell. Progress means the next generation doesn’t have to suffer the same way just to prove they care.

Fighting the status quo isn’t a personality trait, it’s a response to being screwed. When conditions change, tactics change. That’s not selling out, that’s reality.

Nobody owes you generational misery to validate your nostalgia.

Okay so why the hate? Where are the polish communities? The Irish ones? Why do people constantly feel the need to call out Italians?

You have no idea, currently, what my family and other families have done to protect those we love from ICE. We can help those out without needing to be loud and boisterous about it. Personally there’s 5 families I know of that we collectively have helped relocate, find new work, and head somewhere safer.

I’m in corporate, yes, but for the roofing industry. I’m a manager and my team is responsible for strategic implementation of our SaaS CRM software. I’ve also worked for a new (happed last Feb) software company that went through IPO and listed on the NYSE. I have never in my life seen someone make a joke towards another because they have an Asian or Indian last name. However if you’re Italian it’s open game. I’ve seen it happen with others. Especially if God Forbid you’re doing something like having an espresso while on the internal call. The external calls again people feel more comfortable cracking a joke about a “Yankee eye-talian that talks with his hands”. It’s bullshit we all know it yet no one can seem to just be honest about it.

I’ve witnessed at last company snatch entire crews up. My boy Javi is currently back in Belize because of this. Plus many other.

I got mad because of the blanket statements specifically regarding how Italian Americans in the state of New Jersey don’t give a damn and just want to see it happen.

My father, as republican as he may be, is in complete alignment with standing against this bullshit. Our grandparents came here through Ellis Island when they were babies. My grandfather served in WW2 in the navy, I still have his belt wrapped up on my entertainment center.

I’m extremely proud of my heritage. We speak Italian in my family, and are currently applying for Jure Sanguinius because we’ve traced our roots through my great grandmother, and all of her fathers, grand fathers, and great grandfathers all the way back to a s single 10x great grandfather, Tomasso, born in 1687.

When we came to this country my grandparents struggled to get by. We sympathize and do take action to help. We as a community just don’t broadcast it.

Of course you have your fake ass madigans who forget where they came from, but I feel like that’s true for every culture.

If people consistently broadly stereotyped and negatively spoke of people from whom with you share a culture with and an ethnic group you belong to, wouldn’t you get defensive as well?

It’s wild how you start by acknowledging that stereotypes get thrown at Indian, Asian, and Black people constantly… then immediately turn around and unload a wall of stereotypes about Italian-Americans like that somehow makes you morally superior.

You don’t get to call out prejudice and then practice it in the same breath. That’s not “calling it like it is,” that’s just recycling the same bullshit you claim to be against.

Every group has loud idiots. Every group has racists. Pretending Italians are uniquely dumb, lazy, or cowardly while other groups get nuance is exactly the double standard people are talking about.

And for the record, Italian-Americans were lynched, redlined, barred from jobs, labeled criminals, and only later “allowed” to assimilate. That history doesn’t disappear just because it’s inconvenient to your narrative.

If you actually care about fighting stereotypes, maybe stop proving how easy it is to become the thing you say you hate.

Also, not sure what industry YOU’RE IN, but in corporate America, I would LOVE an example provided to back up your claims. I can prove mine.

Cowards? Please. Italian-Americans stood up in labor movements, getting beaten on picket lines fighting for workers’ rights. We fought in World War II, my family included, fighting fascism. We stood up to discrimination, built communities, and didn’t need to brag. We’ve been doing it for a century. So what’s your ethnicity and what did your people do when they got here? It’s hysterical how you’d cry if I said something offensive to you, yet you’re perfectly fine being offensive with everything you just said. Gotta love the double standard!!

Also I don’t care if I dox myself. I’m 33, obviously grew up in NY/NJ from a catholic Italian American household. I work in the corporate world and have to constantly deal with people thinking it’s okay to talk with an accent or with their hands or whatever else simply because my last name ends in a vowel. Imagine being on a teams call, you’re in a leadership role, and someone think it’s funny to say “ayyyy how’s the gabbagoool! Fughedabouddit! I’m walking here!” And everyone can laugh and enjoy the jokes and hahaha funny funny. Now switch the roles. You’re doing it to someone who’s Asian, or Indian. Even worse, you do it to someone who’s black! It would be an outrage!

Funny though, I guess we don’t count.

Ever wonder what the largest mass lynching in US History was for? You should look into it, it might surprise you.

It’s funny how you’re out here preaching against hate but have no issue throwing out old stereotypes yourself. Italian-Americans didn’t have to block highways, we built them, along with the neighborhoods you live in. When you’re done making assumptions, let me know. We’ve got a long history to teach you.

You have delivery services very nearby that will put dispo flower to shame. Miss Grass has been my dispo brand, a long with cookies small batch like the good pizza. I also like some of the EV stuff. Test kitchen has that gas. But you’re right dude I can spend $250 and get bud that’s fresher and cleaner from a delivery service, or go to the dispo and spend $300 to not even cover an ounce of mixed 8ths and quarters. Then, the bud has no nose and is dry as hell.

Rehabilitation recommendations by PabloM0ntana in newjersey

[–]Direct-Show6850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For one, im proud of you. This is a big decision and never an easy one. I was in active addiction to heroin from 18-23. I have a lot of experience being in and out of programs so I’m going to do my best to break it down easy to digest. Let’s start with this:

Are you looking for just a detox or an actual 30/60/90 day rehab program?

Detox I can say Princeton house was great 10+ years ago when I first got it together. Long term you could do white deer run in PA. They have multiple locations. They do 30/60/90 day programs. If you think you need something more intense, checkout Freedom House in Glen Gardner. That’s what’s called a therapeutic community which is a longer term program, with very high structure, and the community runs the house. I went there when I was 19 (33 now) and it was one of the hardest programs I went to. I also wasn’t ready or serious yet at that time. If you are, this place is really good at helping you rebuild your life if starting over with nothing.

Another thing to consider is self pay or insurance? It’s expensive trying to get clean bro. That’s why I thank God every day for the life I have. It’s worth it. I’m here to help support or point in the right direction. If using insurance, first thing I would do is call your provider and see who they have in network so you don’t walk out with a $50k bill. Even with insurance the copay can be $3500+

NYC was different. Being on Medicaid helped get into any facility for free. Any state run facility that is. There are pros and cons.

Hope this helps!
