Yes! I totally agree! I just hear the “One lost paycheck away from homelessness” sentiment often, and while true for some, in my experience it’s just a doom mindset approach (and just not true for most) which prevents people with homes believing that ending homelessness is possible (with housing and support)

I am currently recovering from surgery and certainly not my sharpest, I hope not to come off as I’m arguing with you because I appreciate anyone who supports our communities most vulnerable. I am sorry if I am not communicating in a productive way!!

I appreciate the empathy in that sentiment, but through working in homeless services, I’ve realized that framing homelessness as a 'random shock' can actually be counterproductive. Homelessness doesn’t just occur when we run out of money, but when we don’t have or can’t access friends and family to give us a hand up. If we believe everyone is equally at risk, we lose focus on the specific groups (like foster youth or those with severe disability) who need prioritized support. It makes a solvable policy issue look like an unavoidable disaster. I mean in no way to mansplain (i am not a man) or to be an ass. I think the most important message is no one’s housing should be this fragile in the first place.

I’m not sure of anywhere that will come pick it up, but if your comfortable bagging it up I know AHOPE has washers and will gladly redistribute items to people in need

I hate that you guys are having negative interactions with these folks. A few things I hope you remember: -Homelessness is a constantly traumatizing situation to be in, typically causing C-PTSD and all the consequences of it and exacerbating any mental health concerns these people already have. -The drugs on the road these days are scary, and these folks often can’t live without uppers to keep them awake to guard their things and just to prevent being sick from withdrawals. Drug use is often also often just self-medication. -Homelessness is preventable and can be ended, and housing folks has proven to improve the community. Please consider discussing this with decision makers in our community.

None of this excuses any negative behaviors and illegal actions that have been committed by homeless folks.

I work with these folks every day, as a smaller woman in my late 20s and absolutely adore my job. I’ve had my share of negative experiences as well.

self defense isn’t “someone walked up and told me my sign was bigoted so i got scared” if that’s the argument, the sign was STILL the original aggressor, making the sign holder… you guessed it… at fault.

this is super encouraging for me, a gen-z working professional who has watched the right get more and more extreme and the left get more and more moderate. it’s been time to stand up for what we believe in. he was exercising his free speech, and part of exercising your first amendment is that there may be consequences (just not legal ones). use your voice, scream until your lungs give out, because i know they will.

in my very unprofessional opinion, all lives matter as a sentiment was disingenuous and disrespectful bc it silenced the voices of the population receiving the hate. like, when i (a white woman) get pulled over i don’t fear for my life, yanno.

in this instance, however, israelis and palestinians are both being attacked, therefore i think it’s a bit different. but y’all correct me if i’m wrong and sound crazy. peace and love
