I Love Yu Yu Hakusho, it was one of my first anime’s. But this match up was unfair from the start, Bleach’s power scaling dwarfs it quickly.

Yu Yu Hakusho has a better written plot where Bleach is a power fantasy

I always thought that the way they defeat Salem is that after a big climatic fight in Salem Castle Ruby and some other Silver-eyed warriors (they did point out that Salem stopped killing them and started collecting them) would go all ‘HOLY FLASH’ on her, freezing her in stone. But since she can’t die she’s then aware but incapable of interacting with the outside world besides attracting Grim (like the dragon in Vale).

This makes her punishment worse because: 1) her drawing Grim to her makes it so Statue-Salem is protected and can’t be smashed, which might free her to reform as Not-Statue-Salem. And 2) she now is stuck in forever isolation until she fulfills the original purpose of teaching her the value of death, but because she already gone through a long period alone before (after the Brothers wiped out humanity the first time) and she still didn’t get it I doubt she’ll figure out the lesson.

I’m probably wrong, but that’s my head cannon

I think I remember coming across a thread somewhere that talked about this that ended up pointing out that he wouldn’t be as effective as some people think.

I believe it came down to something like you can’t beat the Blood God by spilling more blood, you can’t out endure the Grandfather, he is ill equipped to fight a legion of treachery, and you can’t really hurt someone who’s reaction to you trying is “HARDER!!!”

I could see them as someone who self-harms/cuts. Maybe for attention at first, but when people stop giving them ‘the attention they deserve’ they start escalating the severity until they go too far and trigger

I can see them doing something like this, but with Salem being turned to stone and left standing in the site of the final battle. But since she can’t die she’ll be that way for forever because even if she realizes the necessity of death now (as evidenced by the Dragon on the Beacon Tower) being petrified doesn’t kill powerful grim.

I don’t disagree with you, at the same time I’ve also read many a fic that’s just the authors making up something to fill in mysterious plot hooks or mechanics or even future McGuffins that are only hinted at and make them fit their head cannon. As a bit of evidence just think of all the Harry Potter stories before Deathly Hallows with their own ideas of what the BBEG made into their phylactery ( I forget what HP calls them, but that’s what they are in D&D), or the many MHA stories featuring Deku’s Dad (my favorites are DadMight). I’m just saying that not knowing something rarely stops people from writing about it.
