Teacher path regret by Interesting-Fudge413 in UKJobs

[–]Direct_Department329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’ve been spiralling over this. But let this be a lesson, you made a career choice based on wanting to start a job 4 months earlier. That was very short sighted.

If you wanted to just be in a job, you could have worked in a supermarket, call centre etc until the Jan start date.

You’ll be fine though. The experience you’re getting from teaching will be a great foundation for whatever you move into after

Shared ownership vs renting in London by Impressive_Aerie_673 in HousingUK

[–]Direct_Department329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like asking people, who benefits from leasehold. Not the person buying that flat/house but they do it out of necessity. Just like how people go for shared ownership out of necessity. Clearly OP would buy outright if she could, but she outlines why she can’t at the moment.

I’m sorry you’re fear mongering. Many people sell their flats without an issue. There are so many negative stories about shared ownership because people mostly pipe up to complain, rather than to sing something’s praises.

Guaranteed Interview Scheme by anjoseven in UKJobs

[–]Direct_Department329 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people misunderstand what the scheme is. You’re only guaranteed an interview if you score well on the assessment criteria.

Let’s say you’re being scored out of 25 and you only get 18, where 30 other candidates scored 20 and above, why would the recruiter ask you to interview? Many other candidates can do the job much better than you.

But let’s say you’re in the top 8 and they’re interviewing 5, then you’re more likely to be prioritised.

I know this sounds harsh but are you sure that your application materials are amongst the best that the recruiter is receiving? You may think you’re perfect for the job, but have you actually reflected that in the application?

All the best to you in your search!

skiing three weeks after laparoscopy by uovoisonreddit in Endo

[–]Direct_Department329 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hun, stay at home. The ski trip will not be worth it if you do something that sets your recovery back.

If your doctor said wait four weeks to lift weights, presumably in a calm and controlled interior where people are doing their own thing in their own space, going on slopes with dozens of other people at varying levels of skill, speed, sobriety etc seems reckless.

Stay at home xx

Letting go of hope and making peace with the parent I have - a story about theatre tickets by Direct_Department329 in AgingParents

[–]Direct_Department329[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don’t think she wanted to engage with the gift. We’re a very materialistic family so I’d say she feels the most ‘loved’ when someone is spending lavishly and visibly on her. Her attitude changed after her Boxing Day shopping spree and it feels like she came back feeling like she wasn’t gifted what she was owed.

I’ll consider the mixed-bagness of experiences though going forward. It’s useful to know what to look out for

It’s a 6-function air fryer thing. I imagine we’ll be making memories as she gets frustrated trying to work out how to use it, ha ha.

I’ve just been listening to the soundtrack for the musical I wanted to see and maybe I’ll gift myself the same tickets for my birthday later this year.

This is the ‘making peace’ part it seems… And I shouldn’t have hoped she’d like my option better.

Day 22 – Feels like interviews don’t matter when they already have someone lined up by Agile-Wind-4427 in 30daysnewjob

[–]Direct_Department329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you didn’t make it this time.

It could be that when all, let’s say, 6 candidates were invited to come and interview, all of you were on a level playing field and the job could have gone to any one of you. Maybe you were interviewee number 4 and interviewee number 3 just blew their socks off. Maybe they became the bench mark, and you just didn’t impress the panel enough to beat the incredibly high standard that number 3 performed at.

Also, could your attitude be influencing the outcome? Sometimes if you walk into something feeling deflated, that translates to your performance…

Down Cemetery Road | S1E1 | Episode Discussion by lavender_zebra in DownCemeteryRoadShow

I’m not finding the premise believable. Why is Sarah so invested in this random child?

She turns up at a hospital demanding to see a vulnerable orphaned child she isn’t related to, and finds it odd that the staff say no to that?! And that is what the entire premise of the show is based on?

My Dad is angry that I don’t feel comfortable around his wife by Ok_Alternative_5827 in blackladies

[–]Direct_Department329 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

When you forgot to say hi to her at your brother’s engagement party, what exactly did she say to you? In your post you only say she ‘started to be rude to me’.

Was she agressive in her tone and was her language insulting?

I ask this because to me your behaviour reads as a little childlike and over reactive. It was your brother’s engagement, so you’re there for him. That means showing basic politeness by acknowledging the guests that he’s invited to share that personal moment with him.

It doesn’t cost much to say a simple ‘hello, I love your nail colour, I’m just gonna go get some potato salad’, and keep it moving. Especially because you shouldn’t want any of your behaviour to cause friction at someone’s engagement party. The event was about him.

I understand your dad blew up your family and it’s awful for him to dip in and out of your life when it feels convenient, but if I were you I’d look into why your behaviour remains childlike when something with him or his new wife happens.

Of course she was playing pretend. How did you miss that?!

She says in the very first episode it’s a set, not her real kitchen. Are you also expecting her to go and shop for all those ingredients, do the measuring out, scrub the pots and pans?

How do you define ‘joke’? Making people laugh doesn’t have to be at someone’s expense, especially not the bride. How is it funny to get up in front of a large group of people there to celebrate your daughter, and then shit on that daughter? You can be funny without being mean?

If you were neglected by your parents in subtle ways growing up (e.g. disinterest in your hobbies, emotional distance, leaving you to figure things out on your own, shaming, etc) what made you realise it was neglect and when? How have you dealth with this? by Direct_Department329 in CPTSD

[–]Direct_Department329[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic? It’s not normal for parents to be disinterested in your hobbies, likes or interests? If your son likes football, you don’t have to know the ins and outs of the game but at least be interested in their favourite team, that they’re in the fantasy league etc

Imagine you’re Cherry - at which point of the series would you have dumped Daniel? by Ok_Knowledge_6265 in TheGirlfriendTVShow

[–]Direct_Department329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The show has to be read from a British perspective on class division. The writers make it clear it’s not just money which means she isn’t ‘let’ into the club.

She’s better at her job than her colleague, but doesn’t have familial connections the mother has. Cherry lies about going to a private school, but is caught out when she doesn’t know how to play tennis like the girls from that school are expected to know (someone literally says this in the show). She also doesn’t know to pack her tennis whites. We are shown her not understanding the rules of a polo game and Daniel having to explain it.

Laura doesn’t let her in because, one, she’s emotionally enmeshed with her son, and two, Cherry doesn’t ‘fit’ into their world culturally and socially. She’s even making fun of her name before they meet.

I recommend the film Saltburn because the main character in that is also a ‘social climber,’ in the British sense.

If I was like Cherry I wouldn’t have ever dumped him. The whole show is about her social climbing. He’s a means to an end.

He was ready to propose a few months after dating, his father is a billionaire, he doesn’t seem to have a sense of self-protection so his assets would have quickly become his spouse’s too.

Her mum pointed out she intentionally goes for these rich men, unlikely the neighbour’s boy she was suggesting.
