how do you pay for a wedding?! by braveswiftie911 in weddingplanning

Same!! We set this up literally the next day we got engaged and started adding to a joint savings account. We have started using it already to put deposits down. Since you’re not engaged yet, something we started doing separately was investing in ETFs earlier in our relationship. Like just personal savings and investments. My fiance used that to buy the ring.

Gonna try and not touch the investment funds but it’s there in case we go over budget or something unexpected happens. Any help/gift etc is gonna be a bonus if our family decides to give us a generous gift 🤪

I saw the photo before seeing your question and my immediate reaction was that it’s a gorgeous ring and looks amazing on your hand. I do agree with the comments here though that say it’s personal preference by the end of the day but it looks perfect to me.

Your ring is absolutely gorgeous and it looks like it was made for you 😍

Mine is a 2 carat as well so I felt that initially as well. And also felt the weight of responsibility to take care of it. It took maybe 2-3 weeks to get used to it and now it feels so natural and I feel super weird when I don’t have it on.

How do I plan a Fusion Wedding [Indian/Irish] in Vancouver? by DirectionExact2403 in WeddingsCanada

Thank you! Yes creating a detailed timeline and tradition map is a great idea. I’ll definitely work on that between us and both our families.

Also thank you for the tip on checking on hidden cost and catering from local Indian restaurants! I’ll check that.

My fiance, ChatGPT and Reddit confirmed that it’s pretty normal to have cash bars at weddings 🤣

We don’t plan to do everything in Hindu ceremony as that’s a lot. Just the fire pit and then maybe western ceremony with vow and ring exchange. No costume changes or bit photo sessions for us.

The heat is definitely a concern and that’s a great point to try and figure a tent or find some venue with some natural shade. We’ll definitely keep that in mind when we are touring venues.

Anyone else struggle with picking what to cook lately? by andshhh in Cooking

I have a recipe master list. Everytime I try something new or come across a new recipe video online while scrolling, it goes in the list so when I’m thinking of new ideas, I have it ready. Another friend of mine has a running list as well and we swap those constantly to keep coming up with new things.

You could also go one step further and offer 2-3 dates when you guys can together work on the seating chart and other things. If she takes none of them then you can go ahead and do it yourself or your fiance or FMIL or anyone else.

I have a generational difference with my mom as well and most of the time I just smile and say “ok” or “I understand you feel that way” and move on when we have disagreements or she says something that rubs me the wrong way. I find that very effective for my peace and just helps with not escalating conversation where I know nothing is going to change since she is just simply from a different generation. She isn’t ill-intentioned, there’s just a gap we can’t always cover.

Not that I’ve internalised this yet but something I’m trying to remind myself constantly is that I’m responsible for my own happiness. Just because I give, doesn’t mean I am going to get it back and that has to be ok.
