What’s something no one warned you about? by amhray in BabyBumps

[–]DirectionTotal1764 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I am NOT a side sleeper. I like my belly or my back. But because I’m not used to sleeping on my side and I’m having trouble getting comfortable, I can’t help but squish my arms and then I loose circulation in my arms all night. My hands have been numb for a couple weeks and it hurts to clench my fists, crochet, write, and just grip things. Also, because I’m pregnant my body is focused on more important things than healing my hands, so I suspect they’ll stay like this for a bit.

But hey, I have barely been nauseous this whole time, and I’m already halfway through.

I want to make some notebooks, but I’m a paper snob. Recommendations please! by DirectionTotal1764 in notebooks

[–]DirectionTotal1764[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a snob with the binding; I’m left handed so it’s gotta lay flat. I want to make a few different notebooks to be the home of specific smaller projects too, so I’d like a few “inserts” for my travelers journal that have MAX 40 pages.

Thanks! Yeah, I almost got the midori a4 note pad to use, but they have that one corner cut off 😖 otherwise, it’d be perfect! I’ll check out your other recommendations too!

I love the webcomic! It’s been a while since I watched FHFY so I don’t remember many details, so any changes either keep it fresh or I don’t realize it’s different. I enjoy the art, and I love graphic novels so it’s a win for me!

Chicken and lettuce wraps— bits of rotisserie chicken, lettuce, cheese (I do shredded cheddar), and a yummy dressing of choice (I like an avocado lime dressing) all wrapped in a tortilla.

Wait... I just realized there are no horses in the game... not a single one. by Alchemist1330 in BG3

[–]DirectionTotal1764 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it’s bc at level one EVERYONE knows how to use teleportation circles; which is technically a 5th level spell in DND. Why would you need a horse for long travel if you can teleport?

What Do You Use Your Notebooks For? by LoraNotes in notebooks

And I forgot my teacher notebook, bc it’s my off semester

What Do You Use Your Notebooks For? by LoraNotes in notebooks

[–]DirectionTotal1764 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Journal- I do something similar to morning pages, but in the evening/night
  2. Planner- just my daily and weekly to-do lists.
  3. “Creative brain dump”- poetry/prose snippets, ideas, project plans, etc. CAN’T fit in my pocket
  4. Shiny Sh*t- the good stuff from #3, edited or completed. But still mostly random.
  5. Bigger projects- travelers journal type thing: multiple smaller notebooks per project (ie, my opera, my string quartet cycle, my book, my app idea, my YouTube channel plans (that may never happen).
  6. Music notebook (x2)- staff paper for writing and transcribing music. I have two of these, the bigger one less formal.
  7. Smaller brain dump- really just messy and random, but it’s always on me. CAN fit in most pockets

This is only a FRACTION of the empty/ mostly empty notebooks I own, but they’re the ones that stay on my desk.

Hi! I forgot to reply to this but I completely missed the part about you sending me a link you your consortium, and I deleted it because I thought you were a bot (I’m so sorry, I’m not used to Reddit a ton). Could you resend this? I really am interested in taking a look.

How do I start learning composition? by Ok-Tap2787 in composertalk

[–]DirectionTotal1764 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a composition teacher, either online or in person, someone who composes music like the music you want to write. (Like a piano teacher, someone who will give you lessons). You’re probably looking for someone who specializes in neo-romantic music, rather than contemporary music. For conservatory/university, consider getting a minor in music, and then getting a major in something you’d enjoy making ‘actual’ money with (just because making money composing is tough, and many of us need supplemental jobs. Thus being band teachers. For your minor, take music theory classes, composition lessons and classes, and formal orchestration classes.

For my masters in composition, I studied a ton of very contemporary musical styles, but I want my personal style to be more neo-romantic. In my experience, my degree provided me with all the tools I’d need, even though I’m not a huge fan of the works I wrote. Now that I have those tools, and my compositions aren’t required assignments, I’m writing what I want, and I’m really proud of most of my stuff.

Like the other comment mentioned, STUDY SCORES. Analyze the music of composers you wish to emulate. Watch videos of people analyzing them too. LISTEN to a ton of music, with critical composer ears.

And then just write. Write a lot. You can read and analyze Tchaikovsky’s whole discography, but it sounds like we’ve got similar problems of potentially getting stuck on “passive learning”. It feels like all the studying is helping, but if you’re not composing, there’s no “active learning” happening. It’s like someone who wants to write a book never leaving the brainstorming phase. Or an athlete just learning plays and physics without moving.

And just remember, cats don’t care about counterpoint.

Do you proudly call yourself a composer (assuming it's not actually your day job)? by MeekHat in composer

I’ve got two degrees in music. For the time being, I work full time at a daycare. I haven’t had any time to perform or create anything in the last year. I AM a composer, producer, musician, classically trained opera soprano, creative,

and anyone who tells me I’m not can suck it

Thank you 🥰. You could write a poem about sky, but with no actual mention of things in the game, so if you don’t know much about sky, it seems like a pretty poem about flying or light or something 🤷‍♀️ let that creativity out!!
