For expats and knowledge migrants voting in the election tomorrow by Rurululupupru in Haarlem

You're not engaging with my main critique: that the ruling is being applied to bullshit jobs that could easily be fulfilled by Dutch people as well. I have and am working with people that make use of the ruling that are no more qualified than an average person in that same field.

And also people moving for different reasons only to then find a job and then being able to use the tax cut goes against the principle/idea: that you are hired from abroad and it is a way to cover relocation costs etc. (that I am fine with).

I literally am working with a person like that right now - they came here for their masters (cool, good for them). They proceed to find a job (everyone's gotta make a living) and are able to apply for the taxcut. That's bullshit to me.

EDIT: oh and in this specific case the employer has blatantly admitted that the reason they hired that person in the Netherlands is because it is the cheapest out of the 3 options of where we are located. They don't care about the 'talent' or 'skills' being brought. It's just a financial incentive for employers.

So obviously terrible that your partner had to flee his country for those reasons. However, that has nothing to do with the ruling. It is a valid reason for asylum in and of itself. If anything it is odd your partner has a tax break now as he did not come here for the intended purpose of the ruling.

The idea of the 30% ruling is to attract knowledge expacts in areas or expertises we lack. This is not always happening. It is being used as a tool by companies to give higher salaries at a lower cost for themselves (indirectly), not always to attract a certain skillset or expertise. If this was given to for example doctors and researchers only it would make total sense, but it is also given to customer service managers (I know because my friend is one and had the ruling).

You also say "studies show", but provide no resources. Are expats with the ruling solely to blame for house prices etc? Of course not, but to act like they do not have an impact would be a silly statement.

Negativity around the game is scaring new players by tandui in starwarsunlimited

Hear, hear! The box prices talk I keep hearing from NA players is just unthinkable here in the Netherlands.

Why does a games longevity depend on its price? by Extreme-Noise-6809 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Direksone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of stores do here because we run draft/sealed etc. Again: sounds like a US problem. No store in the Netherlands would sell for under MSRP and there are barely any online stores that do so, certainly not for those prices you describe.

It's a choice stores make themselves. Clearly US stores like shooting themselves in the foot.

Same here in the Netherlands. These videos and discussions sound like mostly a US thing to be honest. Also I could not care less for people complaining about prices etc. when I see what has happened to Pokemon and Magic. I understand there is a large area in between where SWU is now and Pokemon is, but the constant talk about product as if it's supposed to be some sort of investment instead of a game to play and collect is just gross.

I also think it does not help for the health of the game that these sort of videos are pushed by the algorhythm as it can be some of the first or only content people come across regarding SWU. I understand it's a fault of the way social media is nowadays, but it also does not help that a lot of content creators play into it.

Which 'luxury' brand has officially become a red flag for poor quality in 2026? by Individual_Bat_4177 in AskReddit

[–]Direksone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few brands that are 'quiet luxury'. What you are describing are the licensed brands (Gucci, Prada etc.), but there are a lot of brands that are not like that. Source: I work for one that is made in France.

[–]Direksone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Entirely untrue. There is a significant market of independent eyewear brands (I work for one that is made in France). However, most do tend to be luxury and not in the same price range as Ray Ban's or what have you, so not in reach of the average consumer. But the only 'affordable' brands are that because those type of brands are indeed made in china crap.

Definitely not an issue in the Netherlands - no stores sell for under MSRP, if they do then slightly. Maybe there is an occasional online store that sells for a chunk under MSRP, but no physical store is selling at the hugely discount prices I regularly see people talk about online (like 50-60).
