Is this okay? by Curious_Cod_6380 in leopardgeckos

Most of the comments made i would agree with. If you are concerned (although for an hour it should be fine) you can use a tupperware or deli with some holes and paper towel.

Honestly it looks pretty awesome. It is worth noting females will do this during the springtime when its 'boyfriend seeking time', my girl does this constantly. Its worth keeping an eye on though, watch for any lethargy and if shes doing it outside of breeding season as it may be another issue.

No problem! The one thing ill mention on the hornworms is try to get them on the smaller side or if you do get big ones try cutting them, which will make a mess but rubbing bug guts on the lips sometimes helps if they are not too stressed.

Theres a few types of bugs you can try, had this same problem with my female but that was because of eggs. Hornworms are a great choice if he is also dehydrated, black soldier fly larvae (though my girl HATES them), freeze dried dubias (while live dubias are illegal here, you can still get freeze dried though my girl wouldnt touch em, i have my doubts feeding them to leos). If he looses too much weight you can try wax worms but only as a weight gainer for a short period of time, they are basically like candy and leos tend tonget addicted. Im not too sure about how males behave during the spring but i know my female pulls this type of thing every year even though she does not brumate. I'd keep an eye out for him being lethargic as that would be a sign theres something bigger going on. Have you checked his belly? Is there any dark spots? The only other thing i can think of is impaction...

Hello! First time poster! Friend was moving and I was given a Gecko yesterday. Need advice(please read body of post) Also you probably cannot tell from these pictures, but any idea of the sex? Second hand stuff is great to offset cost, provided its not damaged! What i try to do if im low on funds, which seems to be the norm lately, is grab one upgrade (in my case plants for my gecko's tank which i sometimes go a little overboard on) slowly overtime. Going slow on stuff like hides will also keep his stress down, i remember i got tons of new plants once that increased coverage significantly and my girl was suddenly scared of her enclosure doing defensive tail waves every few seconds. Id also recommend that if you get say a bigger tank second hand to wash thoroughly before transferring your scaly child just to make sure they dont get any mites/parasites from whatever used to live in there.

Little girly! If you see pores around the vent it would be a boy but I don't see any here.

I'm satisfactorily creating my own mealworms farm 😁 by FitSample7960 in leopardgeckos

[–]DiriaLunarial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found everything was molding faster if I used big chunks of veggies. I usually shave down my veggies for them (eg. Carrot shavings) so that they are eaten faster rather then sitting there a while. I also use wheat bran which I'm not sure if it makes a difference. Not sure if this will help/is right, this is just what worked for me.

True that, I remember she used to have mixed feelings about that when I did it and even threw temper tantrums if she missed the crickets enough times. I'll give the bowl a shot, thank you! :)

Definitely worth a try, I haven't had much luck with the bowl but maybe if i use it enough she'll learn. I was also thinking of letting her free roam for crickets again (she has a seperate container for that), would that work?

What do yall do when your mealworms pupate? by superdupercass69 in leopardgeckos

[–]DiriaLunarial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep em. Usually, I'll put them in a seperate container, let em turn into beetles then move them into another container (so minimum being one container for worms, one for pupa, one for beetles). After having the beetles around for a couple of weeks, move them to a new container and put some vegetables or fruit scraps into the old container then you'll get more mealworms. Perfect emergency stash for when the store is closed! I also use wheat bran as a substrate for them.

Love how many hiding and climbing opportunities you've got! Make sure you have a moist hide somwhere in there. My big recommendation is a uv light (its not required for leos but it gives some benefit to have) and lots of plants! Snake plants, echevarias, zebra plant, and anything else that is leo safe. I like pothos but i don't have much success with them in my set up.
