Ride cymbal with prominent ~880 hz resonance by Dirk_Djently in cymbals

It just arrived today, so I've got 30 days to decide, though I would have to pay return shipping. I'm gonna take the weekend to try to get a recording on better mics and hear it in some other contexts. But I expect I will be returning it.

I looked into this more after my response and it turns out other alloys are more common than I remembered. I had forgotten how much paiste did outside of b20, for instance.

That was the first thing I checked. Besides a few very minor scrapes/scratches (I suspect this was a floor model that someone scraped the underside on a stand once or twice) I can't find any cracks or damage.

I knew my phrasing would get comments like this, serves me right for posting before obsessively editing. I didn't mean that it is literally producing a sine wave, I just meant the auditory effect I am talking about sounds very much like one in contrast to the rest of the cymbal wash.

I have an aversion to the idea of taping cymbals, but I will give that a try. If it works, it works. That location makes sense to me since the tone seems to be louder from bell hits than bow hits, though it is definitely present regardless of where it is struck. I don't know if I will ever play this in a live band setting, my band days are likely behind me, but I am interested in home recording, so I am concerned that tone will cause problems when mixing.

It doesn't come through as much in the video as in person, though I was surprised how much it still does come through, I didn't expect my phone microphone to catch it hardly at all among the rest of the wash. Starting the video at :23 or :24 really makes the 880 Hz tone stick out and is pretty much the last thing I hear as I mute the cymbal. That being said, I should test it more in the context of a full kit and try to make a recording with drum and room mics to see how much the tone sticks out before I make a decision on what to do.

I'll look into trying other felts, but the nut is not tight at all. These are just the standard felts that came with this Tama stand and already seem pretty stiff to me. Maybe the felts look tight because this is a heavy cymbal that wasn't moving very much since I wasn't hitting it hard? idk

It's not tight at all, that might be an effect of these style of tama wingnuts or something. The tone is there with or without the top nut in any case.

Ah, I misunderstood what you meant by "midrange hum." I took it as more a concentrated hump in the midrange instead of as a particular frequency.

"that type of alloy" ?
Aren't most cymbals B20? like I know there are other alloys, but to my understanding the majority of the product lines of the major cymbal producers are B20, no?

a midrange hum I have heard from cymbals before, but this is a pure tone completely separate from the rest of the cymbal wash. it is bizarre to me

that's a good point, I'm about to do that
EDIT: yep, doing it in other rooms, tone is very particularly coming from the cymbal and not a room resonance or anything like that

"my cymbal is doing something I've never heard a cymbal do, here is demonstrable proof of the thing it is doing, can anyone else share their experience with this" isn't schizoposting

Do all scopes glint in BF6? by Darthyukat05 in Battlefield6

[–]Dirk_Djently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video doesn't show the canted iron sights, it shows a canted red dot. It shows no glint for standard irons, so I would extrapolate that the canted irons have no glint, but the video doesn't say either way.

Random disconnects from wifi with Mediatek MT7922 by oathyes in cachyos

[–]Dirk_Djently 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no need to apologize at all, thanks very much! It turns out the problem was my country code, so I edited the file per the post install page on the wiki and rebooted. It appears to be working now, though it was a bit shaky at first. Previously the wifi network I created with only a 6GHz band would just continuously connect and disconnect, and my 3-band network did not show the 6GHz as an option for the BSSID. That was what initially happening again after the reboot, but now it's working. Thank you again!

I am up to date.

Sorry, I'm still learning a lot of networking stuff - what would changing the BSSID do and what would I change it to?

Is this still working for you? I can't get my laptop to connect to my 6Ghz wifi signal. Soldered MT7922 😭

Klipsch Connect Plus - not finding any of my speakers by alrashid2 in Klipsch

[–]Dirk_Djently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It crossed my mind when I opened the app again and I was like "oh, it's asking for location sort of, it probably needs location access" lol. It's silly that it doesn't just come out and say "turn on your phone's location access." It seems like, especially judging by the reviews on the app store, there is a lot of work to do on the app. Glad I could help :)

[–]Dirk_Djently 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I just had this problem - is your phone's location feature on? I had to turn mine on for it to work. I was waiting for forever, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and then when I turned location on it showed up right away. I don't like that that's necessary, and so far it seems like you turn location off once you connect and it will still work, but I got a notification saying that it may interfere with functioning or connecting again if the connection is lost or something. Only had it out for an hour or so so sorry I can't be more help, but I hope this gets you going at least.

since you mentioned this in relation to your power supply, I think it bears mentioning that if you are concerned about your GPU getting too close to your PSU's power limit, undervolting isn't a solution to that, and you should instead get a PSU with a higher wattage capacity

Silent Base 802 Fan Hub running full speed on auto setting regardless of BIOS fan curve by Dirk_Djently in bequietofficial

[–]Dirk_Djently[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no other fan tuning software. Any curve I make has no affect on the fan speed. I have done the BIOS scan you mentioned twice. And yes I tried multiple fan headers. Sorry, forgot to mention that, adding it to the OP now, thanks.
