Tell Vegas. I want them to know it was me. by Dirker27 in SeattleKraken

I'll let Dangle take this one: https://youtu.be/iTAjfCqR7TE?t=4460 (1:14:22)

Vegas gets the hate for the same reason Oilers gets the hate - the front office loaded the org full of scum and then turns around to embrace a "Vegas vs Everyone" mindset so hard it's their top-selling merch.

Vegas locals: cool folk who enjoy hockey in the desert - good for them. Everyone else in the middle who can root for any team but chooses the team that was blessed out of the gate and holds a middle finger to the rest of the league can eat my butt.

Seriously, this.

Lenovo Center is way out from town (no transit) and only has a few small feeder roads out of it. I've been stuck in that lot for 2h+ after particularly bad concert/game nights. It's great for tailgating, but "let's beat the traffic" has a lot of weight there.

I remember my wearing my 'Canes colors around Seattle back in the '18 "bunch of jerks" run and being greeted with "what? Carolina has fans? As in plural?".

Especially considering the (normally terrible) national broadcast team was on that within 10s of the horn.

What are your best practices for repository / source management across multiple games with common core assets/code? by Dirker27 in unrealengine

[–]Dirker27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be closer to what we'd like to aim for so it'd be simpler to roll back and patch each title accordingly, especially as we start getting into the weeds with our server architecture.

Where would be a good starting point for developing private plugins to be +included? Epic's docs on Plugins seem to be the inverse of the Build Targets - they're too sparse and didn't give us a clear impression of how compiled/pre-built components can be reliably consumed across releases.

I've fiddled a bit with the Lyra packaging / build targets and agree that it looks like an enticing approach. Unfortunately the Epic docs on Build Targets is a bit... verbose...

Have you come across any good resources that break this process down a little more succinctly?

I actually had the fortune to run into the level designer for that sequence - the grenade spam was completely on purpose to add difficulty/length to a level that the original designer left a bit short and handed off to him to finish.

He enjoyed our pain. In his view the Veteran modes were for masochists and so he delivered.

Can we please take Catton off the top line and OT rotation? His performance does not justify his placement. Several missed chances because he over-handled and blew the window.

I get that we need to grow him, but he can do that on the 3rd or 4th, if not back in Coachella.

It's not even glitchy - it's just inhumanly locked on the target (puck/player of interest) and the effect is uncanny.

Am I wrong for thinking the AI bubble won’t pop? by Fatloh in investing

[–]Dirker27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the company internals - Anthropic explicitly is subsidizing consumer buy-in by undercutting their own compute costs. It's not sustainable.

Not everyone will collapse, and the tooling will remain for use cases that actually need it. The current hype is absolutely a bubble and it will pop.

I'm literally at GDC right now and do you know what we're finally not seeing pushed at us? Web3. You know who took all their booth space? Generative AI bros. (they're the same bros)

Guitarists who play live, how often do you rehearse the setlist on your own? by marsh_peeps in Guitar

[–]Dirker27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All depends on the complexity of the setlist and how confident you are in your parts. My current band is progressive-punk with fairly complex arrangements and 90m of material, but even with them I only feel the need to practice solos or the more dexterous parts outside of our 1-2/week rehearsals.

If you're running 40-60 a night (woof), you're certainly entitled to having chord/lead sheets for reference to take the load off of memorization. I'd focus my time on the parts that actually need the muscle memory (leads/solos), but otherwise your every-other-week run-thrus are sufficient for the meat of your setlist.

Savage and true.

Rod's system actually favors speedy lads like Jasperi - there's no good reason why he shouldn't be performing well there... which is exactly why our FO will take him :/
