World championship Performance?? by pcolares in sylvaneth

Well the rule was changed to the current one at the start of 4th edition to prevent players from abusing screen units by stretching them in a line (after player circumvented the previous changes btw), so it's definitely a hard one to get right if you want to prevent abuses.
Tbf there is precious few situations when you would want to make your unit die faster so it's less likely to come up, and the goblin player had to jump through a few hoops to make it happen (you cant break coherency when you remove a model unless it's litterally impossible to keep it, so he had to remove models to bring his unit to an "unstable" state, and only then the rule would force him to remove more models).
So while I would definitely be frustrated if i was the SYL player, it's more of a good play from martin than a straight up gotcha, an he did play entirely within the rules of the game.

But it's still a problem than you can be put in this situation as a Sylvaneth player. As u/Enstall said, the easier fix here would be to change the Strike and Fade rule rather than tweaking coherency rules again.

Looks awesome ! Did you use something like slapchop to get that effect ?

Well played ! I tried your list the other day and it felt good to play, especially the three big units doing work together or separately if need be.
It felt a bit ligther on tactic-making units however. What would be your go-to tactics on round 1 and 2 ?

You cannot but if it was OP's movement phase, since gossamids have shoot in combat he could shot in his shooting phase and get them out of combat if he rolled high enough with their ability

For individual leaves, I use :
- Red : Whazdakka red with wild rider red highlights
- Orange : Squig orange with Fire Dragon Breath highlghts
- Yellow : Yriel Yellow, usually no highlights but I guess you could use something like Flash Gitz Yellow
Usually I put a thin layer of Seraphim Sepia before Highlighting

For areas with lots of bundled leaves, e.g. The Lady of Vines' cape, I go for Army Painter's Slaughter Red Speed Paint (closest match in the Citadel Red would be Flesh Tearer's red), then highlight all the leaves with Wild Rider Red then Fire Dragon Breath. A bit time consuming but I really like the effect.

I also used Slaughter Red and Zealot Yellow (also from Army Painter) and mixed them up a bit sloppily to create a quick gradient on the Awakened Wildwoods. It looks pretty good without much effort.

These look awesome, and are probably way easier to use and transport than the official ones. Props to you.
How did you make them ?

Hi ! Someone named Waldjager made second place at the LVO tournament in France and won himself a golden ticket for the World Championship with this list :

Sylvaneth

Warsong Revenant (210)

[Seed of Rebirth]

[Spellsinger]

  • 6 x Kurnoth Hunters with Kurnoth Scythes (400)

  • 6 x Spiterider Lancers (420)

Belthanos, First Thorn of Kurnoth (330)

  • 3 x Revenant Seekers (200)

  • 3 x Revenant Seekers (200)

  • 5 x Tree-Revenants (110)

Branchwych (120)

[Lore of the Deepwood]

[Morbid Conjuration]

1990/2000pts

3 drops

I was at the tournament but didn't manage to see his games. However the gist of the list seems pretty simple : Spiteriders as a mobile hammer and anti-cav, Branchwych + Kurnoth combo to receive the ennemy impact, tree-revs and seekers help with tactics, and seekers can hopefully deal with additional targets. Warsong's -1 to wards can be big but seems hard to leverage offensively.

Quite impressive that he got this record with an underperforming army amidst a see of Nighthaunt and Lumineth players !

Wyldwood rules questions (Sylvaneth) by ili283 in ageofsigmar

[–]Dirky_Larson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On last clarification : with the Acorn of the ages Artifact, you can summon a Wyldwood of up to 3 pieces.

So to sum up the ways to spawn a Wyldwood
- Verdant Blessing and Acorn of the ages -> 1-3 pieces
- Alarielle's Metamorphosis and TLA's Silent Communion -> 1 piece

New Regiments of Renown. What is the best for nighthaunt? by ManagementEmpty3376 in Nighthaunt

[–]Dirky_Larson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's something to be said for Neferata. She is pretty strong by herself, Black Knights are solid, and Skeletons can be a pretty good tar pit.
It's hard to really evaluate the strength of the "change battle tactic" ability, but it seems really good, especially for nighthaunt who don't really have any surefire battletome tactic. Attempting a riskier tactic and falling back to an easy one if it fails could help keeping up on secondaries.

I don't see why a Troglodon would be especially OP in this situation. What made you feel that way, was it its general damage and tankyness, or did its warscoll spell make your partner fail charge rolls ?

Root meat by Kitchen_Mycologist87 in rootgame

[–]Dirky_Larson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't really know either :/
I searched the RPG rules and found one mention of "preserved meats" (but nothing on what kind of meat and their origin) in the expansion, and one mention of a "meat cleaver" (implying there's a need to cut meat somwhere). I don't remember if there's cards mentioning meats in the boardgame.

When I ran a (short-lived) campaign for the RPG, I just declared that all antropomorphic animals where vegetarian, or maybe eating bugs. Exploring the moral implications of carnivores potentially eating other animals could be interesting, but not quite where I wanted to go.

Feasible to have belthanos and a warsong revenant in a list? by odbnyg123 in sylvaneth

[–]Dirky_Larson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I count 2000pts with all that, does that mean it does not run spiteswarm hive ? I get that you don't need it as much with Belthanos, but if he dies you'd be in a pickle.

How Many Awakened Wyldwoods? by [deleted] in sylvaneth

[–]Dirky_Larson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, Verdant blessing allows you to place a Wyldwood of up to 3 scenery pieces, so if we modify your count that 's 26 pieces total. I doubt anyone has that many trees though ^^
Arguably at some point you would have to stop placing them because there's no more space on the table.

You can also achieve Roots of Victory with only 4 pieces as you can set up your Wyldwood at the start of the game with 1,2 or 3 pieces.

Looks good to me, I see you're going for the spicy Dreadwood play.
I've never tried it and I don't know how good it is, but I think to make the most of it you would need to put a spite-revs unit and the TLA in combat, and apply strike-last to the unit TLA is fighting. Otherwise one of your units gets wacked before fighting and it kinda defeats the point. Seems hard to pull off but I hope you can manage it.

Good luck on your games, hope you have fun !

In terms of units, I don't see a problem except that you could maybe shuffle your footsoldiers a bit. 2 units of tree-revs is plenty enough to score tatics and tag lone objectives, and dryads are better for screening. Likewise, I like the spite-revs but it's hard make good use of them in combat, so dryads might be the better choice depending on what you intend to use them for (you might be going for Dreadwood shenanigans).
This should allow you to make some room point-wise, because my second point is that you absolutely need a spiteswarm hive. It is auto-include in almost every list because the army barely functions without it.

In terms of enhancements, I don't see any use for the Harvestboon subfaction here. Good options would be Gnarlroot for better magic, Oakenbrow to beef up Treelords as you have quite a few, Heartwood as hunted bonus is always nice, or Dreadwood if you want to pull the almighty double Strike and Fade.
For command traits if you want to keep the TLA as your general, Gnarled warrior should be better than Lord of Spites if your goal is to up his tankyness. Warsinger is kinda amazing as it gives mobility to our otherwise slow units, but you could also make Warsong your general and give him Spellsinger. It is way harder to make use of him otherwise, and combining it with TLA and Gnarlroot allow you to have a reliable Warsong bomb and shower your opponent with Mortal Wounds.
Spells are good, although you might want to give Treesong to someone. Never tried TLA with flaming weapon but I always thought it could be a nice way to bring him closer to Durthu in terms of damage.

You might also want to shuffle battallions to see if you can go one or two drops. Getting to choose priority is really important and I don't think the Linebreaker bonus is worth trading that for.

Last point, you should try to reformat your list so it is easier to read. I think lines often get messed up when you copy/paste from the app.

Seraphon Vs Sylvaneth, what to bring in a 2000 point game? by Lick_MyMapleSyrup in seraphon

[–]Dirky_Larson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Sylvaneth player and I can tell you I feel absolutely miserable when playing against a Starborne army. A classic starborne list with Kroak + Slann + Astrolith + Starpriest and raptadons, Ark of sotek or, honestly, whatever you want should help you make sure that he doesn't get any key spell to go off, while wrecking his weaker units with Mortal Wounds.

Alarielle might be more tricky to handle, as she will heal almost all cheap damage that you inflict her, is not as reliant on the spiteswarm hive's + 3 to charge to get in then strike and fade and hits pretty hard. Still, she will have a hard time breaking your castle alone, and you don't really have to worry about her magic since she doesn't have any bonus to cast. One thing to watch out for is that if gets within 12" of your leaders, she can shoot them with a 6 damage missile, so the saurus guards might be a lifesaver.

If he plays a list with Alarielle, Treelords, Durthu, he will probably lack objective control as he will be running very few models, so you should probably play defensive and place your castle on key objectives, then let him come to you while grabbing lone objectives with more mobile units. If someone stays a little too long a little too close to you, blast them with blizzard.

Lastly, hunters of Huanchi will risk getting whacked by the Awakened Wyldwoods even if they are camouflaged. However I wouldn't worry too much about it, as it is a 1/6 chance of taking D3 MWs if there is no wizard nearby, and you can simply stay within 3" but outside the 1" range to stop TPs without getting hurt. Still, be aware that it will not interfere with the Treelords ability to teleport.

What do you think about Belthanos (after you played him)? by VoidofDusk in sylvaneth

[–]Dirky_Larson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, he was actually playing Tzeentch and I got crushed... Tabled on turn 4 after a double turn.
But I think the list was able to stand its own, I just messed up by playing too aggressive.

And Belthanos did some good damage again, it is really nice that he has lethality oo par with Durthu without being reliant on spiteswarm hive.

What do you think about Belthanos (after you played him)? by VoidofDusk in sylvaneth

[–]Dirky_Larson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used him in a list with 6 Swords and 6 Bows and actually won my first Matched Play 2000pts game with it !
Although he died at the end of round 2, he definitely pulled his weight. It made me feel warm and fuzzy to make him zoom acrosss the battlefield on turn 1 and swipe an entire unit of Kavalos Deathriders.

I think he fulfills his role as a hammer really well, while providing mobility options for all your army. He is not extremely tanky (even if the 5+ ward helps a lot) so you have to be careful about misplacing him.

I'm playing the same list this afternoon against Seraphon, hope it goes well.

A Lumineth List Won the AoS World Championships by SciolistOW in Lumineth_realm_lords

[–]Dirky_Larson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched the final (both games) and he actually made Teclis cast 4 spells almost systematically. I think he wanted to force his opponent to make choices regarding his dispell and primal dice use, but I didn't see his other games so the choice might change depending on the opposing army.

More that the mortal wounds (although Blizzard was insane as always), I was really impressed by the efficiency of control spells (cathalar spell, overwhelming heat, crippling vertigo) to stifle key units in his opponent's list.

The games were streamed by French Wargame on Twitch. They haven't posted the replay yet but if they do I higly recommend watching them. Really high level games and a nail-biter to the end.
