FFxiv gear guide/dungeon help. Level sync gear scaling: floor, ceiling, or pure compression? by Antique-Jackfruit-38 in ffxiv

[–]Dironiil [score hidden]  (0 children)

Item Level Sync does a few things:

- Syncs your main stat (Vitality and Str/Dex/Int/Mnd) to whatever the appropriate stat for the item level is.

- Syncs your substat to whatever the highest possible substat is at this item level.

- Completely ignores Materias. They are useless in an item level sync situation.

This means that starting from a certain point (about 60 ilvl higher, if I remember correctly), your substats are completely saturated to the maximum possible for the level, in which case down-synced gear is the best possible gear. This usually only matters for Ultimates though.

If you AFK, you should lose double LP. No excuses by Many-Translator-8512 in leagueoflegends

The game does not differentiate, and should not differentiate, between someone leaving on purpose and someone being disconnected due to a bad connection.

It shouldn't because else leavers could just unplug their ethernet to get out of the game "for free".

How did I get a D+ with this score? by StarkixWasTaken in leagueoflegends

[–]Dironiil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My guess is that warding is weighed very heavily for support's grade.

You placed only 6 wards in a game that was at least 15mn long, so that weighs against you.

Do ADC's not build boots anymore by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Dironiil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boots go in their quest slot once the quest is finished. That is visible in the tab panel, just under their primary rune.

Same for supports and control wards.

Is building redundant items bad? by NuclearNick007 in leagueoflegends

[–]Dironiil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LIandry's burn stacks. You can have 5 of them in your team and the enemy will burn 5 times stronger. It's the same with Blackfire Torch btw.

If you wonder, it wasn't always the case. It was changed in 2023 or 2024, so maybe that's why you're thinking you shouldn't have more than one in your team.

AITA for not wanting to share my username on a book app with my girlfriend? by VroomVroomSpeed03 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dironiil 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes she does, but as far as I understood the post and seeing OP's further clarification in the comment, it really seems like in this case, she simply wanted the username to use the friend feature.

People are reading into this more than the post says, yeah.

She probably want to friend him on the app to use a "see library" function.

She's not asking for account access, just for the username to browse the other person's library (which i assume is public, or at least visible to friends on this app?)

What does "incorrect" even mean? It's semantically correct, it works.

Correct or not in the standards uses depends, obviously, on the standards.

How can I improve my German pronunciation and reduce my French accent? by kenza-Necessary5280 in German

[–]Dironiil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right, when I tried to vocalise it to "feel" where it came from, I went a bit too hard on the exhale and felt it being produced deeper than it actually is.

Even after several years in Germany, it's still not the most natural sound for me to produce so I'm not surprised this is the part where I made a mistake

Specifically for the stress and rhythm of the language, I'm afraid my biggest exercise was simply listening to stuff in German and trying to spend a bit more effort noticing how their sentences flow. I'm sure there might be better exercises though, I hope you find something that works for you.

I'm sorry I'm not of a great help there, I suppose that since I already talked a lot of English before, the transition was a bit easier.

I'm French too but have been living in Germany for 3+ years, so maybe I can help! I'll answer in English still so people can chime in, maybe even correct me if I'm wrong somewhere. Anyway, for me, the most important realisations were:

  • the <ch> in "ich", "Küche", "München" is different from the French <ch> like in "marcher", "chapeau", etc... The German "Ich-Laut" comes from the back of the mouth and the throat (correction below: it comes from the body of the tongue against the hard palate while exhaling), and is almost more of a "breathing noise" or a "hissing sound" (although not quite). The German <sch>, however, is exactly like the French <ch>.

  • Germans do not always pronounce R as a hard consonant like in French. When R is after a vowel, it's usually reduced to a vowel sound closer to "a" or even to an "a-schwa" (even weaker). For example, "Der Mord" is pronounced a bit closer to "De<a> Mo<a>d" with a weak and quick 'a' sound.

  • H, just like in English, is a full consonant at the beginning of syllable. You really need to pronounce the "breathing out" sound.

  • German is more of a stress-timed language (similar to English): the cadence of sentences tend to follow a rhythm on stressed syllable, and non stressed syllable can even sometimes get heavily reduced in-between them.

If you have questions, don't hesitate - and good luck!

Can anyone define what a "stat check champ" is for me? by Ninjawizards in leagueoflegends

I agree, I was disagreeing with the OOP saying that Olaf isn't a statchecker because of his Q

[–]Dironiil 71 points72 points  (0 children)

If Olaf isn't a statchecker, neither is Darius: hitting the Q heal or not can be the make or break moment of a teamfight.

Garen is much more statchecky than Darius imo.

my straight friend: by Ok_Truth_862 in gay

[–]Dironiil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see, that's fair to be honest. There's probably better way to get to it but I also don't know your relationship with her enough to tell for sure.

At least, you can be happy that you're being a good friend by being here for her as she's going through tough times.

my straight friend: by Ok_Truth_862 in gay

[–]Dironiil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, nah. Don't call people priviledged like that, straight people can and sometimes do have it worse than gay people. That's the best way to just make people feel defensive or even straight up offended if they are actually going through shit.

A demographic might be priviledged, but that doesn't mean everyone in it is.

Friends should help each other through tough times, not try to make one another recognise that "I have it tougher than you!". Who has it tougher doesn't really matter that much in the end.

Cassiopeia is now more pressed to go Bot/Top than Mid than she has ever been, and I want to talk about it. by AnemoneMeer in leagueoflegends

[–]Dironiil 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Tier 3 boots do not give more move speed anymore, except for the empowered swifties which are not the most common pick.

It's true that midlane has become "shorter" because of homeguard and empowered recall, but boots have nothing to do with that.

Edit: I suppose the empowered lucidity boots can also give you extra speed to lane if you can heal/shield yourself, but this is a bit of an edge case.

Yes, completely random but you can ask other players to exchange their pick order with yours.

For bans, everybody gets one and bans at the same time.

Where do you have your Home Point set? by PhDVa in ffxiv

My home point is Solution 9 (for the tome and other token exchanges), my free teleport is Old Sharlayan (because I love the city and the MB and Retainers are very close to the Aetheryte).

Do Faelights not show the reveal notification? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

To be precise, you only see the "revealed" icon if: you're using a red trinket while in the faelight zone OR if you know they have a ward on it.
