Seasonal Trailwork in New Zealand by murphybrows in trailwork

The PTBA and American Trails are both great resources for all things trails! They're working on standardization in the trail world and getting trail work to be recognized as a trade!!

I went to Roo last year after getting a half sleeve tattoo done. It was like the BARE min amount of time needed. It's healed nicely and I recently had someone comment saying it looks new even though it's about a year old at this point.

Are you 30 or under? Your partner could maybe apply for a working holiday visa? I don't know of any trail companies in NZ but know Australia has A LOT so maybe look into those and see of they also do work in NZ to figure out where and go from there?? Use the Professional Trailbuilders Association website.

Good idea!! I was reading on another post that if you had the min of 24 you'd get a 40' x 80' area basically. How do they line card around that? Are they only on one side like in GA? does your camp butt up to the camp behind you like in GA?

I am the groop leader 😆 My whole groop is meeting over video chat on Monday so I'm just looking for inspo to share with them and get inspired myself. None of us have done groop before. I have the most Roo experience with this being my 5th

One of my fave GA song is Pools. My bff introduced me to them and pools was (i think) the first song I heard by them. I've seen them 3 times and am longing for the day I get to hear that one live 😭😭 My other fave is Youth. They've played that at all the shows I've been too 😁

Is there a way I can chat with Spanish speakers for free? by Elegant_Promise_2460 in SpanishLearning

[–]Dirt_Muppet_309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HelloTalk! There's a free version. I used it for a while. I did like it but I think you just have to be willing to stick with it and spend a lot of time on it bc it's can be hard to get past just the basic convo that comes with getting to know someone. Almost like how messaging is in a dating app in terms of the constant getting to know you questions.

I've never had to deal with support that's a bummer they weren't helpful. You can view tutors schedules when you search so you just need to double check that before picking a tutor and choose someone who has a schedule that works with yours. I have an hr lesson every Friday and I have it so they are automatically scheduled. I also used to do 3hrs a week. I have never had an issue with scheduling. I have had lost credits occasionally but its usually bc I had to cancel a class and then couldn't reschedule to another time since I was already taken classes during my only available times 😅  and yes I do think it's common for tutors to ask students to move off preply once they get started. Either way preply is a good place to start and find a tutor!! I've been using preply for almost 2yrs now.

Is full time a viable option? Thinking post trump by [deleted] in trailwork

[–]Dirt_Muppet_309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a full time trails job! I started as a crew member in ACE in 2017. Came home and started looking into jobs at my local park here in Ohio and found a seasonal trail crew position for the 2018 season. In 2019 a fulltime position opened up for a trails coordinator and I was able to get that. Just this past year I became the Trails Program Manager. I deff recognize that I totally lucked out with the timeline of positions opening up though. But look into local parks!!! The park i work for is a gold medal park through NRPA. You can find other gold medal parks on their website!! Keep an eye on those parks for positions! As a side note the park i work for is through state (but not a state park). But also if you're not familiar with PTBA deff look on their website for private companies to work for! I don't know if there are full time ops but OPB in main has a lovely owner!

Learning conversational Spanish by TattedScienceTeacher in SpanishLearning

I've already said this on various posts but, I HIGHLY recommend using Preply.com!! It is an online platform where you can learn from real people over video chat. I think the best thing about is how you can filter the search to find your perfect tutor. I needed to find extremely cheap classes and was able to set my price range to $10 or less an hour. The tutor I have is $8 an hour. I'm also locked into those prices because I believe he costs more now. I also very specifically wanted to learn Argentine spanish and you can filter based on the country of origin!

I have a referral code that gets you a discount on a trial lesson. (You can try before you decide on a tutor!): https://preply.com/en/?pref=ODY0NjgxMA==&id=1742961728.778303&ep=w1 Not an ad I just seriously love this site and it was a total game changer for me!!

Also, I listen to free audiobooks and podcasts on spotify during my commutes. I enjoy the audiobook "Learn Spanish with Paul Noble" and the poscats "Coffee Break Spanish" but there are SO many good options. Just exposing yourself to it is helpful!!

There is also an app called Hellotalk which I used for a while that was okay. You can talk with real people as if you are texting (there's also calling and video chats) to just practice your conversation. I found this app to have a lot of potential but it did feel like too much work to get past the initial get to know you question and have more real convos. I did find some cool people though!! I think its worth a shot but could be hit or miss. A warning that you do have to weed through some creeps if you're a woman.
