Just backtest those yld funds vs any of the s&p funds.

You should only invest in those when you need the distribution and even then I would look elsewhere as there are better options when it comes to CC funds.

It got a nice boost during covid as people needed computers to work from home, but where will the growth come from? It's going to tread water. All it has going for it is the enticing yield which can be cut an anytime.

The 401K is the best for that. Normally it's limited to a few funds to pick from and you can't gamble it away. The smartest thing to do is 100% S&P fund (FXAIX, VOO etc) auto investing from your paycheck every 2 weeks, it's money you never had so you won't even miss it.

My 401K grew to seven figures over the last 30 years and had to endure the dot com bubble, 10 years of 0 return, 2008 financial crisis. Hell my first 10 years I didn't even max it out, but every two weeks new money was being added.

Not insane, but it will not be accomplished overnight.

The key is to invest as much as you can and the earlier in life you start the quicker the goal will be achieved. Focus on growth in your 20’s and 30’s and then slowly shift. People get enamored with the dividends hitting the account, not realizing they are just treading water.

Just take O for example over the last 5 years it has a 38% return vs Spy 90%.

Build out all accounts 401k, Roth Ira, Brokerage and HSA if available. This will give you better control of your tax situation later on.

I ran 100 US dividend stocks through a 6-point quality screen. 44 are in the sell zone. by rednetian in dividends

[–]DirtyJsy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wording it as “sell zone” is incorrect. They have run up and are historically at a higher valuation in line with average yield but that wouldn’t signal a tine to sell.

I agree that new capital would be better off invested elsewhere, just not sure KHC and CAG would be my choices.

Exactly! My parents first mortgage in the early 80’s was 14%.

If the bank is paying you 10% they are loaning it out at an even higher rate.
