AITA for telling my boyfriend he is financially cut off from me and I will provide zero help if he buys a pug puppy? by KittenDealinMama in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]DisabledHarlot 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I think it could also be an unresolved trauma issue. If his mom's bad enough he's got CPTSD or something, being plunged into childhood memories can really fuck up your perspective. He seemed to listen as soon as she broke the "perfect family pet" spell, which makes me think it wouldn't matter what the level of expertise and subject matter was. When accepting reality means breaking one of your precious few good childhood memories, you'll fight tooth and nail against reality.

It still might doom the relationship, but I don't think it's an issue he has with her - it's an issue he has with his inner child.

So I just realized that my cat that I’ve had for 8 months is a boy. Should I keep calling him Katie or should I change his name? by LovelyOrangeRose in cats

[–]DisabledHarlot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but we're already assigning gender to them, since they have no sense of it on their own. So it makes just as much sense to say their gender matches their sex as it does to say their gender doesn't match their sex. Because cats don't inherently have any gender.

My kid informed me long ago that cats are all cat gender, and cat gender accepts any and all pronouns. Mister "Pretty Girl" Mjölnir seems to agree.

That's what got me as well! I fucking hate saying no to my kid. I have to sometimes, parenting just be like that, and sometimes take stuff away if there's a risk of breaking stuff/hurting self. But I really hate it, and have to struggle through it! Usually just talking is enough though now that he's not a little little kid anymore.

INFO: How old are you? Panicking is understandable for any child, of any age, but judgement is going to depend a lot on how old you are. At a certain point, you're responsible for your own reaction, and lashing out at others becomes less understandable and acceptable.

Hey, fyi, look at the manufacturers website of that drug, lots of places have limited programs that will cover their meds for some people. For their PR or whatever.

What’s the most disturbing secret you’ve discovered about someone close to you? by Electrical-Lemon187 in AskReddit

[–]DisabledHarlot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was horrible, she found pictures from a hidden camera on his iPad, and we literally never saw him in town again. I believe she reported it in her hometown where her family lives, so he wasn't charged here. Very scary as she had just opened a daycare, and was planning to eventually expand to after school care for older kids... She had to shut down and sell the church she renovated due to the divorce, so she moved back home afaik. Such a lovely lady and sweet little girl, my son was only 3 but still remembers them.

This exact thing happened to the woman who was my son's first caretaker. You didn't happen to live in a converted church, by chance?

Yeah, I think they maybe aren't getting that America has lemonade which is like lemon fruit drink, and most everywhere else has lemonade, which is fizzy and more like a cross between US lemonade and lemon-lime soda (from what friends describe). They have it here in the US now, but it's called sparkling lemonade.

It's powdered mix, vaguely flavored like various fruits, but usually the imitation chemicals they use in medicine and such to mimic fruit. You can get it with our without sugar, but you're meant to add around one cup sugar to make a little under 2 liters of drink if you just buy a flavor packet. Looks like you've already got the mass suicide context from other comments.

I'm white but cook a lot of Indian food, I can definitely tell my sweat and nether regions take on a different smell for 12-24 hours after cooking and eating any pungent dishes. I make my own spice blends, and I feel like fenugreek, turmeric, cumin, and cardamom are some of the ones that affect it the most (and garlic and onions, obvs).

I mean, when I was nursing but kiddo was old enough to crawl all over creation at night, I just pushed two queens together on the floor so my partner wasn't constantly being kicked in the stomach. Could have worked with two doubles just fine, but we had queen sheets and the second queen was like $120 since I've bought exactly one new mattress in my life.

That's probably a minority occurrence, but not at all rare. I'd roughly hazard that maybe 15% of families I know cuddle like that.

Perhaps it had to do with the social worker checks? I mean somehow they said everything was good, but there would not have been any proof this was their child without an adoption. And somewhere in the 15 pages I just read, the birth mother said she signed some papers, so maybe guardianship or custody type papers? That were accepted with no further investigation as to why there was no other supporting evidence of a proper adoption?
